How many playing cues do you actually use?

I play with a McDermott butt and a Meucci Pro shaft at the moment. I play with it for ONE reason (besides it hits DAMN good).

I use the cue that CJ Wiley used to beat Earl Strickland in the Million Dollar Challenge. Earl won the million dollars on the first day, but CJ beat him in the finals.

I use this cue to constantly remind me that I CAN'T "blame it on the cue". The cue has proven that it can play...now it is up to ME!

I haven't ran a 11-pack with it yet, but I was up to a 6-pack with it a couple weeks ago.

Aloha.

I told them it would be great marketing for me to play with a McDermott

That cue does hit tremendous!!!

When I started my line of cues with McDermott they had three prototypes, but didn't have one ready for the Million Dollar Challenge tournament. They were investing money in me so it was a great opportunity to prove my value.

I told them it would be great marketing for me to play with a McDermott because the last three matches were televised and it would be great exposure moving forward.

48 hours later (3 days before the tournament) I received the McDermott that you are using in the mail. Having never used the cue I had to do some "practice cramming" to get it ready for the tournament......and it was more than "ready" come to find out.

Glad to hear how much you like the cue, it has a lot of sentimental value and I wanted someone like yourself have it.

I'm not sure what cue I'll endorse next, I'm starting to look around at what's best and will make a decision......for now I'm using my favorite BLUDWORTH CUE (Red Dot)

Aloha, and continued success my friend.

Um switch back a forth between a standard shaft and ld shaft. Which has definitely screwed with my head...

one at a time
i sell it when i lose money

i am more active than some dealers
but one cue at a time

With a little time to get used to different deflection, I like to think that I can play with any of my cues.
In reality, I have about 10 Barnhart shafts and one clear favorite. I use it on any of the 5 butts that I have. I will shoot with my Libra, too.
I also have an Espiritu shaft that plays really well no matter what I pair it with. The irony is that I don't own a butt by Russ.
I jump/break cues by Brick and Gulyassy. Both are amazing cues that do their jobs well and with relative ease.

If you're counting break cues, I routinely shoot with 5 cues.
- I have a table in my house so I use a break cue and mostly the same shooting cue at home.
- I use another break cue when I'm playing/practicing away from home.
- I shoot in 2 different leagues and I use a different shooting cue for each league night as well as practicing away from home.
(which was really just an excuse for me to justify buying another cue and a 4x4 case).

I use my McDermott Dubliner cue for my 9-ball play, my Phillipi for my 8-ball play, and my ivory jointed Coker for my straight pool play. And my 30 year old schon I keep around as a sentimental backup.

I play with one shooting cue and one break cue even though I have numerous cues that are the exact same weight, same balance point, same length and same diameter shafts. Steve Miz once told Pete Teascarella that he would shoot with a different cue for a while and then go back to his regular cue and get into stroke very easy. This good advise has worked very well for me and has resulted in my highest runs. Stay well and good shooting.

I have 6 cues, one hasn't been played with. It is a high end Josey, I'm trying to sell it. I have 2 Durbin cues, 2 Blackcreek and one Kikel. 3 are 5/16x14, 2 are 3/8x11. They all weigh with a couple tenths of an ounce of each other. I have 2 ob2 shafts for each pin size. It makes it easy to switch from one to the other. However, I mostly play with the Durbins. I have the ob lift jump and Rift break.

Jim Baxter Custom Set ... Playing Shaft, Break Shaft, Jump Shaft, Matching Jump Butt.
I use this combo for League play more often than not.

Chuck Starkey 60" All Birdseye Wood Pin Cue ... Only test hit so far, but will put it
to the test at League tomorrow night.

Larry Vigus 60" Wood Pin Cue for serious 14.1 play. He's re-tapering the shafts as I write this.

Many

Guess I'm in the minority here. I have a few players.
Rick Geschrey (Esoteric cues) made me a custom that I use for 1-pocket and Banks.
I have a production Viking I use for leagues and 7fters.
Another custom with an LD shaft for rotation play.
A sneaky for being (not so) sneaky....
A few MW cues for special occasions. :grin-square:
Total : about 6 (hey, it makes the tips last longer !)

Playing cues

I know there are some vast collections out there, but how many cues do you actually use for serious playing? Do they have specific uses? Bar cue, tournement cue, etc?

I always keep a extra playing cue around if something would to ever happen to my main player with 4 shafts. One shaft is not in this picture
I only play with my main player but every cue I get in for sale I now test drive.

I use a soft break, main player soft laminated tip been breaking and playing with the same cue for almost a decade.

Larry Vigus cue

Have him send you a new but cap for your Vigus cue, if he saw what you had in there now he would shit.

Playing cues

Of the 17 Cues I currently own, I actually play with 10 of them fairly regularly. Of the 10 I mostly use my Huebler's (3), Universal, & Jump break.

The remaining 7 are in need of repair, or are just cues I've come across that aren't worth selling. (one day when I have my own table again, they will become "House Cues".

Far as tournaments go.. Yes I typically use the same set up each time, in most cases.

Two. I regularly switch between my '93 Dan Dishaw and my 2011 Kevin Varney. I sometimes go several days with one or the other. I have a '70s Adam Steve Mizerak that I pick up sometimes if I don't feel like getting one of the two out of the cases. I also have a Mike Gulyassy Orange Crusher break cue that sees little use these days.
