How Much More Time Do You Give Mark Wilson To Captain Team USA?

Mark has done all he can...time for him to go gracefully. He had the lofty goal of our players not sucking this year and guess what....we suck

Mark Wilson needs to step down as soon as he gets home from London. I don't know if it will make much difference who is captain. You can see none of the player listen to the coach anyhow. I still think Mark should step down and try someone else. I have no idea who would be a good coach. Johnnyt

Call me MadCap but I'm not giving up on this years Team USA but I do accept that the fat lady is in the green room and warming up. :embarrassed2:

Now to the main point of this thread, and I want to preface this by asking everyone Please don't turn this into a mean spirited festival of insults.

Obv, most, if not all of us USA supporters are frustrated and speaking at least for myself, quite embarrassed at our Team USA's horrible performance thus far in MC 2016. We are getting our nuts shot in. :(

How much more time, if any, should Mark Wilson be granted, in your opinions, to remain as captain of Team USA?

I have an opinion but want to hear yours first.

best,
brian kc
bergman's shirt foul tells the story.

earl and joe rogan or earl and billy i. as co-captains next year.

You got it right!

I don't give a damn if the coach is Vince Lombardi. If your players suck you're going to lose. Therefore, we're going to lose.

A team of Armatures shouldn't beat a team of Professionals.., and we aren't. The USA just doesn't have 5 players that are equal to the 5 players that Europe can put up.

We have 1 player and 4 hopefuls. We have lots of talented guys that are in the hunt, Bergman, Sky, Josh, Thorpe, but I'm not sure they are in environments that will allow their games to flourish?

I saw Jay Helfert posting and Scott Frost about captaining the team. Jay has experience managing players and Frost captained his Bonus Ball team to the top for most of that. It's only up from here because we really can't do any worse. I think Archer would be a good choice or maybe Tony Robles. All in all what does the captain do? What has worked with past captains? Maybe it really is just up to the players to win and it doesn't matter who is captain.

I don't believe Mark Wilson is the problem. The fact of the matter is, the Euros pocket balls better, have better safety games, and play a better strategic game. They duck when they need to duck, they don't sell out. A new coach is not going to mask those problems until individual players decide to address those shortcomings.

Here I'll give you the secret winning formula...........PLAY BETTER

All these guys can pocket balls but not all play the percentages. Rodney has played the best thus far along with Sky in my opinion for Team USA. When it comes to the break I believe that is where they need to practice because they are not getting a shot after or making balls.

Just the way it is....

It's not Marks fault, it's the mindset of American players whom are unable to set goals and work their way up the ladder....it's completely different than European players. European players have peers in the Snooker world to look up to, too emulate and to learn from....also, they have great instruction. A perfect European example of a GREAT player....Allison Fisher. Our team is comparable to the best college football team trying to beat the worst NFL pro team. European players have much better ground work, maturity and commitment to their trade, whereas most all American pros are roaming cats with out much direction or organization. It's all about commitment and work ethic. But with out a pro tour of some type, it's very improbable the cats will become lions. It's just the way it is. Without true goals to set in life, American pros have zilch to build upon and no reward at the end of the rainbow. Been going on for 4 decades now.

This is a good post. the 6th man doesn't help either. Johnny Archer's turn to be captain

ummm...Alabama could beat several NFL teams this year, I think.

We need a captain that can inspire our players. Instill a positive, winning mindset, and make sure our players can be focused without losing sight that it's only a game.

Right now, it only takes one little mistake to completely bring down anyone on the team.

I rooted for Mark when he was first selected, but now I think it's time to move on. My picks would be Robles or Archer.

Joe Tucker from Rhode Island next team captain Wilson had his shot

Wilson gone Archer in start with Bergman and Skyler and get 3 more fresh young guns who are eager to play (EYE OF THE TIGER)

We need Josh Roberts and Billy Thorpe!!

I like these ideas.
I know Joe Tucker would do some serious pondering on this if given the opportunity.
....and, Joe, study the 'lion' speech by Walken in PHJ.

Since the Mosconi Cup started, I've been a proponent of Team North America.

NONE. He's done. Nice guy but who cares? U.S. wants a win. My take: Make Archer the captain and use all young guns: Bergman, Woodward,Billy Thorpe, Shane McMinn,Wilke. They would be FIRED-UP big time and could NOT do any worse than current line-up. How can experience mean all that much when SVB dogs his brains out????

That would never work as long as there is a ranking system! SvB and maybe Dechaine will always find a way into the top 3 for automatic qualification! A captain can only have 2 picks now!

I have the utmost respect for coach Wilson. I appreciate all he has done for American pool and continues to do with his college team.

I believe his best work is with younger players

So there is no disrespect at all when I say after years of observing him (through his commentaries and now a few years as the captain) I have determined that he is intimidated by some of the players.

I've seen great coaches treat great players with kid gloves and it usually doesn't end well.

Wilson is a great support role, but in terms of coaching and the constructive criticism required to bring your players to the top, I believe he is missing that.

That being said, some players need to be receptive of the criticism as well and willing to change.

Not going to happen.

Therefore, I say keep Mark Wilson on for another four years.

Enough time to see players from his college levels mature into fruition.

USA soccer just made a grave error in firing Klinsman who overhauled the youth soccer academies of America. Such an undertaking takes a decade to see the results. But team USA wasn't patient enough and their premature firing of the coach has set them back, they just haven't realized it yet.

I believe coach Johan Ruisnik or Lee Brett could do the job better from the instructional/criticism angle, but that would require players too listen and change. Not going to happen with some of current players. So keep Wilson and get the youth going as he did with Justin and Skylar
I'm in agreement and I think your call on the younger players is spot on , I think Billy Thorpe is Taylor made I called for him the moment Mark took over , it would be ironic if we got Lee Brett in the fold but I like his fire ,
like Tiger Woods in Ryder cup Shane simply does not perform at his top level talk about variances of short races all you want but he's played long enough in these formats for them to equal out , sorry corvette, it takes a certain mind set to play in these high stress matches where a mistake or two cost you the match , free wheeling simply does not win in this environment he has zero team leadership qualities too boot
Hell I throw a name out there little known player who would thrive in this environment I'd take over Shane is Brian Deska monster player who works for a living but when he decides to come out and play no one bar none has to like playing him

But that aside culture has to change we need team oriented players Euro team is much more in tune with that even having players who did not make the team there not home sucking thier thumbs ,
