Well,

It looks like the moderators moved the "How to Aim Pool Shots (HAPS)" thread to the "Aiming Conversation" forum. I don't usually visit or participate in forums other than the "Mail Forum," and maybe others are the same way. If you want to check out what was moved, it can be found here:

Knee jerk reaction to have moved the original and it's not a discusion as much as an overview you and Bob have done... I will read thru the links and likely order the dvds when I slow down enough to actually watch them.... Also intend to beat on you about COR and not hardness as far as tip deflection, dwell and english but you have some time... Likely a year or 2 LOL......

Good stuff as always.... I was afraid Bob had retired from PTSD... He was sitting under the camera in Jersey when Darren tried to remove it from the wall with the cueball... Glad to know he kept his nerve and wits...

I'm sure Policing this forum is quite a job with some of the comments I've seen but it seems to me that moving things around in general has diluted the richness of the forum.

I'm not sure to whom you are attributing the "knee jerk reaction" part. If you are referring to the moderators, I agree 100%. Even though the word "aiming" was used a lot in the post, there are many topics covered in the linked videos that have often been discussed and debated on the Main forum (BHE, FHE, outside vs. inside english, gearing outside english, effective use of english, rail cut shot CB control, draw shot CB control, kick and bank shot aiming systems, etc.). That's why I thought people in the Main Forum would be interested in viewing and discussing the videos.

I know that is a lot of "baggage" and "bad history" concerning cut-shot aiming-system threads in the past, and I know the "Aiming Conversations" forum was created partly to "hide" these unfortunate and undesireable threads from the public face of AZB, but I don't think all things even remotely related to cut-shot aiming should be cast into the rarely-viewed "aiming system" forum (AKA "the bastard child of AZB").

If you do, please let us know what you think.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but feel free to "beat" all you want.

Best regards,
Dave

Agreed. I would certainly not want to deal with the kind of immature and childish crap that sometimes goes on around here. I'm glad we have moderators who are generally very good at what they do. They certainly deserve more thanks than I expect they receive.

but it seems to me that moving things around in general has diluted the richness of the forum.
I agree 100%.

Sometimes cut-shot-aiming-system threads get out of control with personal attacks, and they sometimes create more ill will than useful discussion. In those cases, they should be "banished" to the "Aiming Conversation" thread. I don't think a thread should ever be deleted, because whether good or bad, they represent a public record of the public communication that occurred. The Internet should not be censored (especially in the USA).

Concerning the HAPS thread. I think it should have remained in the Main Forum. The videos include many things of interest to Main Forum users, and I don't think there was any risk of the thread degrading into an "aiming-system-style" personal-attack thread. Bob and I welcome any and all criticism and questions concerning our stuff. The problem with many of the past "aiming system" threads is that some of the people involved did not welcome true debate or criticism.

I hope AZB can remain a meaningful and relevant forum where people can continue to contribute to and learn from our great community. Censorship is not the way to go, IMO.

Regards,
Dave

Dr. Dave,
I agree your assessment of the HAPS Thread. I think Bob and yourself approach the subject more from an academic/ informational standpoint which is pretty neutral territory. I haven seen anything posted by either of you that insists you have the one true way to anything.....just the facts and perhaps a method to achieve a result.

The first thing I ever wrote in my life for publication was Aim is the Game in Pool and it surely taught me a lot about pool, the people who play it and the state of it.

I have always been intrigued by peoples answers when you ask a great player how he aims his shots. It seems there are as many ways as there are players but I do believe truths about it can be found and I outline my version of all of that in my next ebook.

As for the debate in the Aiming Forum. I haven't been there in some time but once I tried to get System Players to play Non System Players as a way to promote some friendly competition and there were a few that seemed interested but no match ups that I know of happened.

My opinion is that "testosterone poisoning" spoils the stew and becomes more of an issue and has resulted in the banishment of any conversation re:aiming to the closet of the forum.

Pool is such an awesome game and has the potential to be so much more than it is because it is so deep and rich with endless possibilities for the acquisition of knowledge. More important it teaches problem solving at a very high level. It keeps us across the table from one another where we can agree, disagree or agree to disagree. As long as we are across the table from each other we have something in common. Its different things to different people and appeals to a very wide range of people when properly presented. It can touch most any demographic group yet the marketing of it seems to be the one thing we fail at.

It's good we have the forum that we do because it seems that pool is going home to become a gentleman's game once again... of course this is my opinion. It has occurred to me that the market for pool is not in places like this forum but the true market, the one that builds the game up,.... is in other places. Get to those demographics and I think progress is made in the number of new players kept and created.

Having a hard time remembering the details but there was one match, I think.

Lou Figueroa
who was that

Actually my immediate response to the flying object and the loud THWACK behind me was, hmmm.... look at that. Nothing like when the EOD team started doing their thing in a nearby field without warning my detachment. We thought it was incoming.

There was One!

Yes Lou,

There was one, but I cant take credit for that one, it was hatched a long time before my suggestion. I guess your match and JB's was the beginning and ending of an era. So what is next? Should we crown you the King of Aiming Wars? Yes I think so! Anyone agree?

Great, now you've turned this into a dreaded "aiming systems" thread again. It will now probably be banished to the dark-corner, bastard-child "Aiming Conversations" forum. Then I'll have to post a new thread about the thread that was moved about the thread that was moved. :grin-square:

Catch you later,
Dave

PS: Lou, whenever you remind people about "The Match" with JB, you should post that collage of photos of John in his unique post-shot positions. They visually demonstrate his superior aiming system and fundamentals very well. ;)

That match wasn't about aiming, aiming just helped prod the match into happening, it was about a B player beating a C player.

Funny Thing

Funny thing, I think aiming threads belong in the aiming forum now. That is what happens when you splinter a forum, doesn't matter if a thread is good or bad, fine, fine at the moment but likely to head downhill, or stirring the poop from the first post, it goes in the category it fits.

AZB moving the pool related threads off of the main forum reminds me of another niche site. The members whined for years that they wanted a lot of the off topic stuff on the main forum. They got their way and the off topic became the main forum with sub forums for all the real stuff. That site went from as big as AZB to less than one-fourth of it's size and value.

As a general rule the more a forum is fragmented the less value it has to it's readers. AZB has moved most pool related content to forums few ever see. Still aiming threads belong in aiming now. No shades of gray. A shame ain't it?

So I innocently inquired of the good doctor "What"s the haps?"
I had no idea what I was getting into.....

But if threads like this were constantly "shoved under the rug," none (or very little) of this important and pertinent discussion (about the future direction of AZB) would take place.

And for all that want to crack on John for that match, why don't you pony up 10k of YOUR OWN MONEY and give someone the nuts? And don't tell me that it was "advertising". $500, maybe $2,000 is advertising, $10,000 is dead gambling. Lou was stealing from the start, everyone knew it but John. So for all of you people that won't bet water is wet, why don't you shut your trap about John and his mechanics? Or better yet, why don't you go pull $10,000 out of your own bank account and go bet it playing a superior player on a live stream??? I'll bet most of you talking smack about John's mechanics will do a good bit of shitting down your leg yourself.

it ain't important . . .

Dave,

Nothing I say about the future direction of AZB is important. Been saying the same thing for years and years, you never noticed until it was your ox getting gored. Same with everyone else until it is their ass, um ox, getting gored.

hmmm, no. John was the one who made that about aiming and standing up to bullies. So he stood up to the bully. As one astute observer commented: Sometimes when you stand up to the bully he takes your lunch money :-)

Dr. Dave, I do not want to wear out the JB photo collage. I have plans for series of posters and T-Shirts :-)

I would never play somebody better than me for a large sum of money. That's just silly.
