How will you defend SVB this time?

SVB lost to Darren Appleton 8-3 in teh world pool masters and was unlucky it wasn't a whitewash. Now before we start I am not saying SVB is not one of the best players in the world, but like I said in other threads he cannot be deemed the best player on planet earth like Earl, Mika, Daz were when they were winning everything in sight.

I believe Bartram and JB cases scoffed at my claims in the week earlier. What do you have to say now when I told you all SVB was 8-1 because bookies aren't stupid, they know SVB kacks his pants when he is outside the TAR studio or American soil.

That's an easy one, SVB says to Darren.... You got the eight
And Daz will have to decline to save his bankroll

Shane and Darren are one of the great rivalries in professional pool today. Either one can win on a given day. Today was Darren's day, that's all!

I totally agree jay, I usually do with what you have to say. My point being I love to watch SVb think he's awesome but my issue is earlier this week I was getting savaged on two threads claiming SVB is unbeatable and that he is the best player on earth bar none. My issue was he is simply not he is in the top few but has not won enough to be labelled like Earl, Mika and Daz were when they weer on that roll winning everything.

I want all the other guys to use a cuetec and see how they shoot lol clearly Daz has the predator advantage lol

No excuse needed. Since when has Daz ever struggled against Shane in a tournament format. They are both superstars and will go back and forth.

Unfortunately, Shane hasn't learned how to win overseas, while Darren wins tournaments in Asia, Europe and the United States.

The real winner when these two meet in a big spot is the fans, and it really was a shame this wasn't streamed.

In nine ball, the last four times I can think of that they met, Darren crushed Shane by 10 racks to 1 in the winner taker all finals at the 2012 International Challenge of Champions, they split their two singles matches at the 2012 Mosconi Cup, and Darren beat Shane easily today.

I couldn't care less who would win in a long race. Pro pool is not about long races and never has been. The long match is a novelty, one many have come to enjoy, myself included, but every BCA Hall of Fame player earned their stripes by excelling in short match events. When you lose a match in pro sports, you don't get to say "shall we go again?" You had your chance and got beat.

Shane will surely get another shot at Darren at the Mosconi, and maybe it will be Shane's turn and maybe it won't.

Fantastic, couldn't have said it better. My faith in the pool community has been restored on this thread. Where were you all in the last few threads where the dross about SVB being a supernatural phenomon was occuring?

Anyways yes the winner is pool and can;t believe wasn't streamed. Looking forward to seeing re-match at Mosconi. Have you all seen the frame of SVB playing a lcoal for $5 a game in english 8ball? Pretty cool, SVB obviously still not a mug but has trouble with the 9mm tip and tighter pockets.

At the very top level where Shane and Darren play either one of them can lose to each other on a given day and like Jay said it was Darren's day in that match. 9 ball is a game where the best player doesn't have to win every match and anyone who plays it regularly knows this. Darren won the US Open back to back, but Shane just went undefeated the last two US Opens and he was unstoppable. Darren, Mika, Earl, and many more were there. Shane is young and he hasn't traveled the world and played in as many tournaments as Darren and Mika have so his time is coming to win internationally. For my money Shane is the most impressive player i've ever seen and i've seen them all live and on Accu-stats many times. It's hard to say one player is the best over all the rest of the killer players in the world. Look at Thorsten who was just crowned the best player in the world. He was an also ran at the US Open.

Interestihgly enough. who plays better or best is never answered in many eyes. Some maychups are just plain weird and tough to figure out. Some just give some a tough fight no matter what.

If you don't believe that SVB belongs in that group then you must be drinking to much buckfast. I guess 3 US open titles are not quite enough.

Since Efren has dropped off of the peak of his abilities i think it's pretty hard to call someone the be best player on earth.

Niels win the World Pool Master by 8-6 in the final over Darren.

Well played, Niels.

I've always enjoyed your posts, as you are very knowledgable and make good points. In this instance, you come on a bit strong, IMO, you should have qualified this is your opinion. It may be held by a lot of people. But not all, I see it, if you want to find out who is the best, you play, old school, for the cash, til the loser has had enough or quits. I put more stock in a long race than a race to 8. That's why I've never thought the Mosconi Cup was anything more than good entertainment.
