How Would You Play This

8 in the side gives you natural shape on the 9 in the lower corner.

From the looks of the layout, it's a pretty thin cut, and requires letting the cue ball run around the table quite a bit. Maybe it's just me and my eyes?

The way the table looks as it is, seems like it's almost natural shape for the 9, maybe a touch of draw needed.

If it's near straight in, just follow the cue ball into the rail and bounce out for the 9, add a little right if needed?

Sorry my drawing sucks. If I hit the 8 ball to the side I would double hit it. I am excited by the creativity of this shot so I'll spill the beans. I literally jumped the cue ball into the 8 with center ball. This allowed me to play 2 rails and sink the 9 in the bottom corner. I'll probably never shoot it again, but it really kicked ass.

If the cue ball is too close to pocket the eight and get shape w/o a double hit maybe play the eight one rail down by the nine and leave the cue ball two rails one the head cushion.

when I saw this shot I thought I would jack up the butt of my cue like a extreme masse shot and shoot the 8 into the side and avoiding the double hit, hopefully hitting it soft enough to get a decent shot on the nine

If the 8 is nearly straight, and too close to avoid a double hit with a convential stroke, I would jack up and hit low right with soft to medium-soft speed, "throwing" the 8 into the side and gaining shape on the 9.

What would you play

I would have jacked up my cue shot the 8 in the side and drawn the cueball 3 rails around to the bottom right hand quadrant. Pausing to bow slightly to the gracious applause of my admiring crew.

I would just pick up the cue ball and give him ball in hand because it looks like I have no chance of winning this game.

That's the shot.

It's hard to tell from the diagram, but it doesn't look like you can hold the cue ball down table for the 9 so I would hit it hard and go up, down and back up for the 9 ball.

I don't see any other shot.

If indeed the 8 is a slight cut, just use low inside over to the side rail. inside helps eliminate a double hit and a nip draw stroke. If you use outside your asking for a double hit. If in a tourney, like Vegas, a good ref looks where you address the c/b.

The jump shot looks like it's tough to reach. Were you leaning way out over the table? Where did the cue ball hit the first cushion?

Yes I was leaning Bob, 6'2" on a bar table is nice. I hit the first rail around the first diamond under the side pocket if memory serves me correctly.

Once again, I have to back Dan up here. I was there when it happened. Dan is really tall and can lean over a 7' table to play that shot jacked up easily. I don't remember exactly how he hit it, but the 8-ball went in the side and the cueball drew across the table and went 2 rails down for a near-straight in shot on the 9. My reaction was pretty much "WTF WAS THAT?!"
