I am a Producer for American Road Player, Let's Talk

My cartoon was definitely meant to be silly, just like some of the bickering responses in this thread as well as other threads here recently. The cartoon is definitely not toward one person in general, as I was not singling anyone out. It normally takes 2 to tango (or something like that) :). I prefer to laugh with members vs at them for sure. Sometimes a member here and there can't help it though, and I get a chuckle about it. No harm, no foul, carry on AZ!

I get that, Matt, for sure. :)

Ah, yes, memories may be beautiful, and yet what's too painful to remember, we simply choose to forget, like the public polls. So it's the laughter we will remember, whenever we remember, the way we were. Yes, I get it, Matt. I remember that laughter quite well. :grin-square:

Good point. I am full aware of betting companies (e.g. Dafabet, Betfred) sponsoring snooker. If that money allows for a professional circuit with multiple events and provides for a decent living for a number of professional players, I'll take it. And would like to see a similar arrangement for pool also.

A production focused on a tournament with nice prize money and professional players, sponsored by a betting company.
A reality show focused on hustling / gambling.

Spot the diffenrence?

As for Hurricane Higgins (may he rest in peace, his pint of Guinness always full with a pack of fags next to it). Yes, he did gamble, drink, smoke and what not. As do snooker players of today, Never said or implied that the these gyus are squeeky clean choir boys.

This side is, however, not the image snooker endeavours to portray these days. This thread was not about pool vs. snooker, and I hope it doesn't evolve into that. The point I was trying to make is that I firmly believe that pool's public image should be centered around a professional game played at the highest level by skilled individuals. Not around hustling, or even gambling.

Funny you don't want to see Pool portrayed that way, but the only reason there is so
much money involved in Snooker is because of the legal gambling on the sport.
Not to mention it's seems most of the advertisers are gambling company's.
Basically what you don't like, (gambling) is exactly what keeps Snooker alive and well.

any more these days...

Explain to me how this is attacking an idea rather than attacking what you perceive to be a large group from the South. Adding "no offense" does not make it less of an attack. It's funny that around 99% of the time a sentance starting with "no offense" tends to be offensive to someone.

These days any statement starting with ANYTHING tends to be offensive to SOMEONE....

I see you are from Finland. Maybe this would be a good project for somebody in Europe to tackle, someone who has film and producing experience, of course. They could showcase pool's straight-laced tournament soldiers playing mum pool with no emotion at various competitions in Europe that pay nothing and have no money payouts, you know, European style. To me, this is not attractive, but if this is what Europeans think might help pool, hey, I'm all for supporting it. And I'm serious. Anything that helps pool, I'm all in. :)

Yes I spot the difference, they allow betting on Snooker in England and not on Pool in the U.S.. Spot the difference ?

I'm all for it and wish they allowed it here also. So if this show can get Pool on TV eventually I'm for it. As we don't have much happening in the U.S. for Pool.

Spot on. Excellent, excellent point. Tap, tap, tap!

Ummm... tournament soldiers? Mum pool? With no emotions? No money pay outs? What Europeans think?

Really? Is that really what I wrote? Wow.

True, and I'm with you on this one. Money coming into the game is definitely positive, and as I said, I'd like to see this happen for pool also.

Is this show the answer? I don't know. If it helps, good. As I said, I personally do not like the focus on gambling / hustling.

Agreed lol. Although I'm considered to be a redneck by some ( I drive a truck, hunt, fish, enjoy beer on occasion ) I wasn't offended. I'm just to the mindset that if you're going to dish it out be prepared to take it. But you are right, I could say the sky is blue and someone will say it's gray and will be offended that you thought differently. Sorry to derail this thread.

Sadly the books that are open to snooker overseas raises the chances exponentially for dumping and shaving. This tarnishes the player and ultimately the sports image.

The same would be true over here if the books included pool. Then we would have umpteen whine threads started on here. Etc, etc.

If you want spotless and pristine then become a monk.

I think the opposite. If the only betting is illegal betting, then there are more shady characters involved and THAT would make for a higher probability of shenanigans.

Sure there have been instances in sports, one notable example would be Boston College in basketball. Those guys involved served prison time and their lives were basically ruined because of it. Those types of cases serve as a warning to others and helps to maintain the integrity of athletes in the future. Until it happens again, and then the cycle repeats.

You have to make examples of the people who are doing the wrong thing in order to keep the others straight. Banning something (such as gambling) only creates a black market where the unscrupulous thrive and are not regulated, so it gets shadier and shadier to the point where the entire sport is looked upon as shady, as is the case in pool today. Shine light on the gambling aspect and make it more transparent and you'll see the black market shrink and the shenanigans along with it. It will still be there but it will be far less influential and a pariah to be fought against by the ones who realize there is a lot of money to be made by making legit books.

TL/DR: Keeping things illegal doesn't stop an activity, but only makes it more shady.

The "joke" is on you Bruce! This whole thing is internet driven, including when and where you'll be able to "see" it (and, according to this thread, trying to drive donations for upfront production costs). It has nothing to do with broadcast television, dvd sales, or cable tv. It doesn't matter if you're "in a prime spot", because you can access the program anytime 24/7.

Well Scott you also missed the point and that was what I was say, too me the trailer looked like it could be on cable TV. Also like I said it looked better than some of the other junk on Cable TV.

I personally do not watch internet TV, because of slow internet speed where I live.

So I was just commenting on what I saw, and its potential in my eyes.

I always wondered how much it cost Jim Murak, the casemaker from NY to make that 10 to 12 part series with Jeniffer B. and crew? Johnnyt

Gambling, from my experience is "good or bad" relative to the people involved

So do you think there are more legal, or illegal card games in the USA?

How much gambling is done on the golf course? More or less than pool nationwide?

How about football and basketball, isn't there billions of dollars bet "illegally" with book makers each year?

Gambling, from my experience is "good or bad" relative to the people involved, not the gambling. There are far more "card mechanic" than pool hustlers these days.....the ration is probably 1000 to 1. imho

Who ? This is a quote from you;

"The way you portray pool is why pool is not considered a serious sport, but a hobby foir loosers and gamblers.
This might very well be a "Euro" thing, but seeing blow hard retards like the ones in your promo makes me cringe! Guys tearing their shirt of, to show their flabby body is just beyond embarrassing.

and another;

"a hobby for compulsive gamblers and (no offense) white thrash men from the southern areas of USA.

there's a few. Anymore questions ?

Where can the promo be seen?

Just sent $50 for the shirt package. Still eyeing the DCC event deal as well.

C'mon fellers, this could be the show we have all been waiting for ;)

Thanks and Good Luck.

Yuppers.. Thats why I have dubbed the current generation... "Generation P" note the capital P... The oddest thing tho is members of prior generations seem to be joining ranks with these spineless, thin skinned oxygen wastes at an alarming rate....
