Congratulations to you. I would recommend that if you plan on getting admitted in more than one state that you plan it now. I believe that Mississippi will use your multistate for up to 2 consecutive exams and Arkansas will only let you use it to the next exam. I have not looked at that issue for awhile, but if you plan on practicing in more than one state you should look at it now.

The next couple of months will be challenging but are kinda fun.
 
Congrats Eric, and good luck against S.S. on ESPN I know you got a chance just remember to keep your heart rate slow and steady.

This is a little off subject. The King of masse has been taken and the man who carried that nickname has just passed this last year, so if you still looking for a nickname. I would like to offer you mine if you want it that is. Mr. Masse is yours if you want it. Now that you are close to being in the work force I will call you a Mr. even though you are my Jr.

I am so happy for you, all your hard work is starting to pay off. Good luck again.

Jay...Eric and I have talked about this a few times. Here he is, a WORLD CHAMPION (in his discipline), but he understands and realizes that making a living from pool is difficult at best, and impossible for most. He has no intention of not using his abilities as an attorney. At the same time, he does want to pursue doing exhibitions, and competing on the artistic pool 'circuit'. His "day job" will hopefully afford him that flexibility and opportunity.

Eric...Congratulations on finishing an awesome undertaking! Best of luck to you in everything you pursue. Looking forward to working with you next week in Las Vegas! See you soon!

Thanks all, for the congrats! I appreciate the support. It's been a tough three years but it's been the best three years of my life. It's had its ups and downs for sure. I had to break off an engagement (for the best) and I almost died in a motorcycle wreck. But, during these three years the Lord has blessed me far greater than I could've ever deserved in three lifetimes. I have been blessed to be the pulpit minister for the Brinkley Church of Christ throughout my entire law school career. I survived my crazy-bad bike wreck (painfully so). I still managed to graduate law school, despite my already busy schedule. And against all odds, I have been blessed with the time, dedication, and opportunity to pursue my aspirations in artistic pool. Not only have I been crowned WPA Masse World Champion, among other accomplishments, I've got this ESPN thing coming up that I was invited to. So, I'll be able to compete with the BEST (Semih Sayginer, in case you live in a cave). And so, I say again, Praise Him!

I sit for the bar in TN in July (25-26). I started my rigorous study schedule today. The Univ of Memphis Law has the highest bar passage rate in the state, so hopefully I won't be the exception. ;) I plan on taking a job in Clarksville, near Nashville, if it all works out, where I'll be doing a little bit of everything. I like the idea of being a plaintiff's lawyer more than criminal defense or family law. I'd love to prosecute, but this other job seems to be a better opportunity. As far as specializing, we'll see...way down the line. I can see myself specializing in motorcycle wrecks, since I'm a rider and an advocate, but I'm keeping all my options open for now.

I looked into getting licensed in TN and FL but FL doesn't grant reciprocity, so it'd mean twice the exam-time. I had a few interview offers down there, but decided to stay in TN. I just might get licensed in KY, AR, and MS though, depending on where I land for good. I appreciate that encouragement.

One thing's for sure, I fully intend to continue in artistic pool, and whatever else comes my way!

And Jamison, perhaps you should call me Mr. Masse, Esquire :P

Congratulations. But just remember as my grandmother used to say, "College doesn't necessarily make a fool of a man---but sometimes it sure helps."

My sister graduated top 10% in her class from top 5 law school in US and she doesn't practice law either. She makes probably 10 to 20% of what her classmates makes working in non-profit organization raising money and helping out them poor people - no regrets. Life is too short to be non doing whatever it is to make one happy and give some sense to meaning of living.

Congratulations on a great achievement. Surely, now, you're qualified to comment on what is known as the lawyer paradox of Ancient Greece.

The great lawyer Protagoras made the acquaintance of a young man he believed to have the makings of a great legal mind, suggesting that the young man become his student. The student had little money, however, so the deal they struck was that the young man would be taught the law on condition that he paid Protagoras a specified fee upon winning his first case as a lawyer. After Protagoras taught the law to the young man, the young man decided being a lawyer wasn’t for him, and decided not to practice law. Understandably, Protagoras became quite upset, and chose to sue the young man for his fee. Predictably, each man, well schooled in the law, chose to represent himself.

The court proceedings were rather remarkable. The judge asked who’d like to make an opening statement and both Protagoras and his former student sat absolutely silent. After a while, the judge became a bit upset, and asked why neither spoke, but each remained silent. The judge was starting to get incensed, when, finally, the proceedings began.

Protagoras broke the prolonged silence, stating, “with due respect, your honor, I have nothing to say because I don’t much care what the findings of this court are. Shocked and somewhat insulted, the judge asked “Why not?” Protagoras continued “if you find for me, by definition, I’m entitled to the damages I seek, and if you find for my former student, he will have won his first case, after which I’ll be entitled to my fee.”

The student then chose to speak, stating, “I, too, don’t much care what the findings of this court are.” Shocked and, once again, disgusted, the judge asked “Why not?” The student continued, “If you find for Protagoras, I have yet to win my first case, so I would not owe the fee, and if you find for me, by definition, I need not pay the damages sought.”

The judge requested a recess, asking for a moment to consider whether he wished to remain a judge or find a new line of work.
 
It is definitely uplifting to hear about someone graduating.
 
I totally agree with what Jazz and some others said. You absolutely need to do what you enjoy. The law can be an awesome profession if you find a niche you enjoy and believe in, and it can be like pulling teeth if you're just billing hours. I've been working as a prosecutor for 11 years, and absolutely love it. My friends on the defense side, or in big firms make more cash, but who cares what kind of suit you're wearing or car you're driving if you sit in your office staring at the clock all day?

One more small piece of unsolicited advice--ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING. As an attorney, all you have is your word. No case out there is worth jeapordizing your reputation.
