I just heard my local pool hall is closing.

Sad day for me, I've been going there for 24 years. I learned to play there and had some great memories there. I've seen several road players come through in it's time and learned the finer points of matching up.
It's has been little more than a bar with a few coin ops and a 9 footer for the last several years and it was a stretch to call it a pool hall but for me it was like home. Several people have already asked if I would buy it and keep it going but it just doesn't make good financial sense to me to risk it.

So long River City Billiards, it was fun while it lasted.

If they are just closing their doors ,you may be able to acquire it for next to nothing.The chances of turning a profit are slim,but breaking even is feasible .It would only be worthwhile if it meant enough to you not to see it fade away and allowed you to have a place to go to. It sounds from your post that the regular crowd would stay.
 
You may also be able to buy one of their tables at a good price. Helps them liquidate and helps you.

I thought about that but I'm all set for tables and if I buy another one that wife might shoot me instead of pool!

I would if it were feasible. The need to much for it and it would require a big investment to get it back to what it should be. Money I can't afford to risk.

Played there many times in the 90's working the Continental Cement, Knapheide, Q Soybean .....

I'd stay in Hannibal rather than Quincy because of RCBilliards.

Too bad. Used to be a decent joint.
 
Sad to hear. You posted awhile back that someone else was gonna give it a go. What ever happened to that ?

What are you gonna do now for your homeroom?

That didn't pan out. I guess now I'll just head to Quincy to play at Rack Daddy's.
 
That sux, sorry to hear the news. As another poster mentioned, take some pictures. What are your favorite memories of road players coming thru RCB? At least, it can live on through this thread.
