I like Earl, but he'll always be a sore loser. Always has and always will.

My guess is that whoever patted him on the back probably knew him. It would be strange for a complete stranger to feel it necessary to try and console him after a match.

I have seen a bunch of people patted on the back, and I have never seen anyone react in a negative way.

Earl is Earl and that is why his career is in the toilet and many people will not work with him. In my opinion he needs medication to try and smooth out his emotions, but feels this would hurt his game so he is off meds.

One of the top pro cyclists, cadel Evans, will stab you, if you touch his dog.

Prob good advice to keep hands off pros, ESP when they have battle fire still running thru them.

yep, another Earl bashing thread because he's rude. of course, this is because we all idolize the road hustlers, cheaters, sharkers, drug users, fighters and many other scammers that make up the pool world.

But being rude, strictly verboten... I guess us delicate pool players need to toughen up just a tad :)

Anyone watch NASCAR lately, or NFL, NBA, etc. etc. A wife beating here and a drug arrest there, and folks are tuning in at record numbers.... but rude.... c'mon, that's down right sinister

If Earl had a gun there would be police tape around the table and a chalk outline of a jump cue with bullet casing everywhere. Earl is the #1 suspect because he left his hockey bag full of gizmos at the scene. It would be breaking news on every major syndication.

Just being "rude" wouldn't be so bad. :grin-square:

earl had to choose between being professional and being a human. he chose the easier one to portray.

Someone posted a match of Earl playing Russian pyramid recently. I want to see THAT Earl play. He doesn't feel that he OWNS Russian pyramid so he acted like a humble guest.

Nice how people can "guess" what was going on when they were not present, and then after they spew ugly words about Earl Strickland, they add on to the ugly words by casting judgment on Earl's job as a player. Sickening, this forum is sometimes.

If anyone watches pool then they know who Earl is & how he is, it's no big secret how he can be at times. He doesn't like losing, nobody does but Earl is very vocal when he does lose. Maybe he doesn't express himself as well as he could at times, I've seen many instances of his behavior. Even given that, it still doesn't give someone the right to touch someone they don't know. As other people have said, just because you're a fan of someone & feel like you know them it doesn't mean you actually do. I wouldn't want random people walking up & touching me especially from behind. I am a fan of Earl, he's always been nice to me & my family every time we've seen him the past 15 or so years.

Earl turns around and snaps " Don't f$$king touch me"!

The guy has issues, for sure. Maybe he was molested as a child and doesn't like men touching him? Geez, a friggin pat on the back?!

I remember a few times in NYC when I cheered his opponent, he turned and gave me a dirty look. My response was, and always will be "What, you ain't gonna do squat, I hope you lose, you jerk."

Every clown has a circus, Earl is the clown of "professional" pool. I love to watch him play, but I like to turn the sound down and edit out his nerotic whiny antics. IOW, anything outside the green "space" is not worth my attention.

Earl is one of the reasons I enclose the word "professional" in quotes. It's folks like him who make marketing folks cringe. When he passes, folks are going to be split between "He was a great player" and "He was a real a$$h0L3."

I’m in my 50s and one of the things I’ve noticed over the course of my lifetime is that people touch each other these days much more than they used to. When I meet a woman, or run into her again, we’ll hug and give each other a friendly kiss on the cheek, like they’ve been doing in most of the rest of the world for years.

The bro handshake between guys ends up with a shoulder bump and often a hug.

One of the things I love about having made it into my 50s is seeing this phenomenon come to pass. To my mind it’s much warmer and more human than giving someone a polite, distant handshake, and imo we’re all the better for it.

I can't imagine the guy meant any disrespect to Earl by giving him a pat on the back.

Lots of speculation.
How about , if the person was a friend, he must be an idiot to have went up to him after the match .
If he didn't know him , he had no business touching him and was lucky to just get his a... chewed a little.
My guess would be the person knows how Earl sometimes reacts and wanted his moment of fame for getting Earl to go off.
He might possible have been a 1 in a million person who sincerely wanted to make Earls boo boos go away , but I guess that was a bad idea. DUH
I've been in pool rooms all my life and no pool player likes to lose, and most get upset when they do.
Pros included.

Im not saying its right but it is what it is.
Earl is "pools child" We take him like he is.
I don't think anyone would want to see Earl quit pool even if it turned him into a saint. His game is something to behold. Everyone wishes Earl would behave. If he did he would be put on a pedestal . Unless something dramatic occurs in his life he will always be this way
I'll take any Earl I can get myself

If you'd read the OP you'd know that Earl was signing autographs at the time. So it's not like the guy went up to him while Earl was sulking alone in a corner and the guy interrupted his bout of self-pity.
