I 'm watching this guy on the next table.
Hes shooting a ball with an angle to it in the corner pocket and trying to draw it down the long rail to a 6x6 piece of paper.
The cue ball is hitting the side rail just above the side pocket.
So once again I make the mistake of opening my mouth. I never learn.
I says you got to hit that shot with reverse to straighten the draw out a little.
He says what's reverse? I say its low left.
He then says I'm an instructor and you cant change the path of the cue ball unless it hits a rail!
I hit the shot with the unknown reverse and it slides down the rail about an inch off the rail and stops on the piece of paper.
I said it's on the paper isn't it?
I just don't know why I bother.
But I peeked over at him and could see he was shooting the shot with reverse.
He never said another word.
I'm 70 years old and have been playing for 57 years. I know the game pretty good.
If I'm trying a position shot and failing and if a 15 year old kid comes up and says I can show you how to do that I'm in.
If he can do it I will thank him for showing me.
Good grief people.

I'd be concerned with who qualified this person as an instructor...obviously somebody doesn't know what they're teaching!

maybe a teacher at a school and using what little he knows as he likely isnt a good player to try to teach students..

You should of told him about AZB.

Probably something else he was unaware of....LOL

Yep - what ^^^he^^^ said.

I've had a few folks ask me to "teach" them - but I tell them right off the bat that I'm not qualified to teach. I might show them some "by the book" basics .. but I am certainly no "Instructor".

If you can beat your instructor, he has some problems.

All the best,
WW

None of Tiger Woods instructors would have beaten him once he reached college. The top pool instructors I know of may not be able to beat me. It doesn't mean they're poor instructors. Incidentally, I never had a formal instructor. Just watched, practiced and played.

I don't doubt he is an instructor. I said in another thread one of the biggest hustles in pool is people who can't play cashing in as instructors to unsuspecting beginners.

Trust me I would have bought you a water:thumbup:;)

Those who know, whisper, those who don't, shout that they do as loud as they can. -Z-

I don't doubt that you are over 70 and enjoy giving people crap while they play pool! :D

Obviously, everyone starts somewhere. My first hitting coach job didn't prepare me to coach kids in HS. I was not ready for that level I still had much to learn. I could teach younger kids, and you continue to learn every day about the game.

But the better folks I trained with gave me more knowledge over the years. My son became quite the capable ball player, and a home run hitter at that. I played baseball from age 5 to 52 (injury forced me out), and I NEVER hit a home run ;)

But, I coached High school, Travel and amateur teams, and turned my son into a home run hitter, that at the age of 12, the other team's outfielder's all played on the warning track whenever he batter.

I wish I knew how to teach him to "check" his swing for a bloop double, he would have added 100 points to his batting average :)

Having played measureman for years I can vouch for his character, he can take it and dish it out.
Some days it seems the only way I can beat him is to turn to my safety game but he kicks like a soccer player and than safes me back:wink:.

I refuse to play him again until I get contacts:p

Cuebuddy
dont see so good no more. measureman....still using his original eyes:cool:

Those that can, do! Those that can't, teach!

Hmmm... should we believe someone who refers to himself as 'shifty?' Next time you're in NYC, shoot me a PM and we'll play some sets for fun. I won't embarrass myself. Promise.

Never had someone tell me they were "an instructor" but I've told/showed people stuff that they didn't know and pretended they did:wink:
