I miss Keith playing...anyone else??

Jenny,

I am not sure what you want. You have a boyfriend that is one of the most admired and revered players to ever play this game. We let him know how much he is missed in the pool scene and your refute is that we want him to dance like a monkey....I enjoy watching Keith play pool along with many others on this forum...nothing more, nothing less!

He is a celebrity for crying out loud and it seems as though (the way you write it up) that if he goes to DCC then he will be solo for good...none of my business I know but really I hope that Keith will post to this thread and let us know why he has given up the game...I have heard you talk about FANS of this game that sold autographed pictures you and Keith sent them for free. I can't help what others do but I do know that you seem to take this urging of Keith to reappear on the scene as threat against your relationship....I assure it is not!

I would very much like to meet you as much as him...I told you quite sometime back that I would buy both of your dinners one evening if I ever had the opportunity and the offer still stands...Take Care!!

Gary

Gary, I was, and still am, a very independent woman. I have been that way long before I met Keith. In fact, if somebody would have told me that I'd be back into pool, 9 or 10 years ago, I wouldn't have believed them. Keith is also an independent person.

Sometimes, Gary, people have to make choices in life, like what's best for your financial stability and/or health. Pool is cool, but it's also a rich man's high in some respects.

I found myself in Vegas, June of 2006, crying my eyes out. I won't ever let that happen to me again. I like me.

Thank you for the kind words about Keith. I will be sure he reads this thread and respond at a later time.

Thanks Jen, I know you mean it. They have been going through a real tough time over there the last couple of weeks. First Jalo was sick and now her mother. I wish I could be there to help them, but I do the best I can from far away.

I also have responsibilities (like an 89 year old mother to care for) that keep me close to home most of the time. I have to plan my travels carefully too. Like you Jen, I have been burned in the pool industry, more than once. But it could happen in any line of work. This is the path I chose for myself, just like Keith did all those years ago. It's too late for me to go back now.

I don't think "dancing like a monkey" is the best description of what Keith does on a pool table. There are many people (myself included) who appreciate his special talent and skills. His original humor is only a bonus! Keith and I have had our ups and downs, but he remains one of the most memorable people I have ever known. His story is unique and so is he. In the pool world Keith is a STAR!

Jay, I understand a little where you're coming from. If I ever have the good fortune to meet you in person, I would love to break bread and exchange views on various pool topics. I respect your wisdom, passion for pool, and opinions.

Keith is a pool star, and I hope he continues to shine brightly for many years to come. When I met him, Jay, he was, uh, shall I say, a little rough. He is not the same Keith McCready today that he was when you knew him, thank goodness!

One of the best ever...for sure.

I'd love to see Keith and Earl play again, ideally an exhibition. Where they both could talk all they wanted to....THAT would be something to see....and hear.

Amen to that brother! None stop CHEEPING

Hey JAM, I have tried a couple of times in the past as you know to get Keith out of retirement for a little while but now I am serious. Keith like some other players I know have one so much in the pool world that they should be able to live ok on the back of what they have done in the past. I am with the others on the whole dancing Monkey thing. That didnt sound good hun. If keith is even thinking about playing in tourneys or a special event please let me know as I would love to help him with tourneys or a show. However if he just does not want to do it then thats his call obviously. I am going to pm you my number although I think you already may have it. Give me a call.

Thank you for you good intentions and very generous comments about Keith.

The "dancing monkey" is terminology that I liken to players who perform on a field of green to put money in other people's pockets.

I can tell you that I have firsthand experience of donating product and/or time for free, only to get burned down the road by the very entity I tried to help when they were nobody.

What you are doing, Mark, is an admirable thing, especially for the pro players in your corner. It is not only helping them personally, but it is promoting pool. Bravo to you.

I hope you never get burned in this industry. When it happens, the healing process is difficult. :(

Thank you for the kind words JAM. I have already been slightly burned but not really set on fire as I am sure, you , Keith, Jay and many others have but I get an idea of how it can affect you.
Like I said if Keith has any desire to play again let me know and lets see if we can't pay him up front so there is no fear of getting burned. I think it would be great for his fans. Again you guys have to do what you gotta do for your own lives but he could make alot of people happy.

staying away from temptations...........

Hi Jam, I hope all is well with you and yours. I wanted to say something about what I get from what your responses are to keith being asked to come out of retirement.

Pool is a great game and can be so much fun and it can also be trouble for some, this is true in any group, game, sport or environment though.

Whether its pool or something else, people have to know their limitations and know what their triggers are for getting into trouble or ruining their relationship or life. I'm not saying Keith cannot control himself around pool and drinking, partying etc but if that is what you feel it is understandable why you would have negative feelings about wanting him around those things.

With that said, many people wont understand that and would say if you trust him, support him in going he's a man and can make his own decisions...............not as easily done as it is said.

Often times even after changing for what they know is the best and feeling they have control over it now, people often times find themselves back into what they fought so hard to outrun. They feel strong away from the things that took them down a path that hurt them or others and feel its over, theyve licked it, when in truth, its simply in hibernation waiting for a break to cause more drama.

I only say this because I understand all too well if thats what it is and maybe others should know that its about your life together and being happy and although its at the price of Keith being away from so many that wish to see him again or for the first time, its a price well worth it if you are both happy together the way you are now.

No one with this type of issue ever intends to get into trouble or hurt people they care for but the self control isnt there at the very moment they need it most. If they recognize it and stay away from the triggers, thats the only way to avoid falling off that wagon again!

Maybe you two can find a way to do short appearances somewhere to do autographs or for Keith to tell stories, of course being paid to show up and then removing yourself from that environment directly afterwards?????? People do want to see him and if you two can earn more income from his popularity, by all means use that to your advantage without causing grief in your lives.

If this isnt the case then I apologize for the long winded babbling!

Take care.

SIDE NOTE EVERYONE! This is in no way saying anything negative about Keith.......I simply read something into what I was reading in the posts and wanted to comment on the what if scenario.

McCready comeback

For whatever reason life changes our priorities from time to time. But without a doubt I truely miss Keither being in tournaments and action. I just became used to reading about him in a magazine or actually watching him play at DCC.

Does anybody know if Keith is going to make the DCC???

It is a great show and with him there woofing and just being Keith it was that much better.

I am not trying to start a flame thread or anything but I just want Keith to know fans miss him being out there in the grind. He is/was such a charismatic figure that entertained above all else.

I know there are many great players out there today and enjoy watching them as well. But I do miss the old school guys who were flambuoyant and brash.

Keith if you are out there man just know fans are still holding out for "COMEBACK '08"!!

Gary

Very nice post Gary.Rep for you.Keith is one of the all time best players and it's good to know I am not the only one waiting for the comeback!!

I talked with Cole Dickson about coming to DCC to see everyone too.

Would be great to see these (2) California barn stormers, together again.

If it's the right decision for Keith to be actively involved in billiards again, then I hope that he does so and I hope have the opportunty to watch him play. Only he and the people closest to him know if that's the right decision though.

If he never plays again, it would be a shame as there are numerous fans out there who would love to see him on a table (myself included), but it's his decision and deserves everyone's respect whichever way it goes.

If he's happy never picking up a pool cue again - then I wish him all the best. Keith has (imho) proven himself to be one of pool's legends, both for his game and his gamble - period.

I have the utmost respect for Keith and Jenny. I compare Keith's disappearance from pool to Michael Jordan leaving basketball. He was that great for and at the game. But no offense to Jenny intended here...if MJ's wife were his spokesperson then it would leave his future hanging with his fans...like Keith's situation.

I have no monetary gain or loss from Keith returning to the game so I don't have any tune for him to dance to. I am nothing more than a fan who watched him compete at the DCC for several years and was drew to the banter and crowds that gathered around when he was chirping... it was great being there and watch him work a room...nothing short of magic!!! For those who witnessed it they know exactly what I mean.....Good luck to you Jenny and Keith and may you both find the right time and place to make the great comeback....PEACE OUT!!!!

Gary

If I could pick one living player that I could knock 30 years off of just to see the fireworks that would ensue it would be Keith.

I imagine there are a fair number of current players and backers that would be going mute the minute an early 20's Keith was suddenly flying back out onto the road.

Just hearing Keith's name brings back alot of great memories for many of us. His style of playing is an art to watch, his comments while playing would make you bust a gut, while he busted your horse. Kinda funny but i look now at Keith as the Organgrinder and some of his oppents as the monkey's. We all miss him, but most of all we have respect his call to lay down the cue. Keith isnt the first great one we have lost for their own reason, Jean Balukas another great we all would like to see return. I would think these two names could sell books, videos, exhibitions, lessons, commentate, sign autographs, or anything related to their outstanding career's. People love these two names. My wish would be.. Keith playing on the West Coast Again. But for now we wish Jen and Keith all the best in whatever THEY choose to do.
sincerly Floyd (ccn7) Tibbetts
ps. where can i go to listen to Keith in a poker room..lol i know he cant just sit there and be mum.
i have a get out of spelling and grammar jail free card.
