I Miss TAR

I'm going to go with what I consider the coming out party. Shane stepped up as an underdog against Corey and imo changed pool. At the same time we had Justin & Chad working with Billy & Grady and that match simply blew everyone away. I believe Mark G was there also and it inspired him to try and take TAR to the next level. TY all.

We started a thread before that match looking for sponsors so we could get commentators. Mark called me and said he would do it and got Grady and Billy to work the match. They hadnt worked together in awhile at that point. Greg Sullivan paid to have a Diamond Table hauled to Sioux Falls for the match. Both of them came to watch the match. About a year later Mark bought out Chuck and Jason and I moved to Vegas to base TAR there.

That was one of the best matches we ever did. It was Shane's coming out party. Technically we had no idea what we were doing. Jason and I were in the basement for weeks trying to figure out how the hell you actually do a streaming PPV. This was 2007 and it wasn't as cut and paste as it is today. Great times.

TAR 20 (I think) SVB vs Earl on the 10-footer.... John Schmidts commentary was literally laugh out loud funny.

I am finishing uploading the the last few discs of that this week. I have most of it up but kept getting sidetracked on finishing it. There are 11 dvds so its a lot of pool. It should be available on demand hopefully Friday.

One of the biggest (literally) moments was when I saw Justin and Big Nasty coming down the hall way together side by side!

For anyone who didn't see Big Nasty (RIP buddy) and Justin in person haven't a clue how large of a human these 2 were!

Pool wise, the biggest moment for me was the Donny/Shane match. I heard what Donnie was capable of and perceived it might be done but I never honestly believed it. No matter how much chatter I heard about it. AND I may never see anything like it again...It was totally sick! One of the sickest things I have ever seen on a pool table for sure.

Gary

Nasty was a big man. The running joke was we would get to a venue for an event and I would be somewhere talking to someone and whenever they would say something about my height or size I would say "I'm the small one." They would laugh. Then Nasty would roll in and the look on their face was always pretty funny.

+1 on the Donny match. Never seen anything like it to this day. That was also one of the best trips. Lot of fun in Florida that trip.

On behalf of the beginners in pool, thank you for continuing to maintain that. I've started buying them and I will continue to do so. You guys did some great work there.

I'm new so I'm still playing catch up on TAR. I loved the TAR podcast where Shane and Effren played scratch pool against each other.

I recently bought two of the videos Shane did on breaking and on the run out and thought both were really well done. It's too bad they didn't make more of those with other pros. It was money well spent for me at least.

Cleary and I did the instructional with Darren thats in my signature. We are planning on doing at least one more with Darren this year and maybe a few others with other people.

There is a lot of great free information in the podcasts that had players in them. Especially the ones toward the end of the run where we had them get up and play while they talked.

My favorite --- Young Guns - March 2008. Justin wasn't suppose to get to 70 games and won in a landslide. (I think it might be a completely different story if him and Morra played today).

Another fun one. That one never made it to DVD. Your horse ran too good.

That match was where I saw something I'll never forget. I tell the story all the time. After Justin won everyone was high fiving him and what not. One of the waitresses walked up and invited him to get a drink or whatever. John Morra was standing right next to him and she ignored him. Justin kind of looked at John a little embarrassed and John didnt miss a beat. He said "Thats ok man. Thats what happens when you win."

I think John was 18 or 19 at the time. Been a John Morra fan ever since.

I also learned that trip that when The Watchez says something its not a bad idea to pay attention.

Thanks. I just now bought it on VOD. For what it's worth, I like the Vimeo format you guys use for delivery on those. It makes it really easy for me to watch them at home on the Apple TV I have hooked up to the TV in my pool room.

Yes - John Morra lost with class and Bergman won with class. I became a fan of Morra after that weekend as well. The match was basically over thru the middle of the second day and he still kept his composure and kept playing til the end. I don't think that Morra is much of a fan of me though from the look I get when I see him. I'm probably a little too vocal at times for his liking although I didn't say a word to him during the weekend that was negative in anyway. Anyways, I would like the opportunity to clear the air with him at some point.

Beyond that - TAR at the DCC was the best for me. Being in the booth with JCIN, Chad, Disco, Beav, Fred and Scott Frost were hilarious times.

There sure were some great happenings and matches at their Vegas studio and some of the action out on the road was priceless.

Funny shit behind the mic was hard to top from these guys.

I think my favorites had to be the "Earl Hates Babies" match with Shane on the gaffy 10 footer.

It had everything!

shane's ferrule that buzzed every shot but he didn't know it, Earl's baggage handlers ear muffs, Schmidtty & JCIN's color commentary, etc, etc, etc...

Loved the fact Earl had backup ear muffs!!

JCIN,

Please please post more old matches on your Vimeo VOD section. Do I need to put some sugar on top of the please? Or maybe a beer? :D

Saw four live. Bought probably 30+. Best for me was Efren-SVB. Passing of the guard.

Second (and many would not agree) would be Jayson S & Mike D. Even though 2 nighter I think both have a US Open in them. Funny thing is after the first night I had dinner with Justin and the boys and I told them that I was having dinner with a future US Open champion. They each thought I was talking about the other. I meant both and still do.

The most striking thing for me was the vain in SVB's head that pulsates while he is shooting. He obviously puts a lot of pressure on himself while he plays. You can see it on him after a match while he decompresses alone. He looks like a racehorse that has just run 2 miles. The world wants to congratulate him and he just wants to nap.

Something tells me that JCIN has a few more in him as well.

Nick

Given the beating team USA has been taking in the Mosconi Cup, it would have been great to see some long format TAR rematches. We did get the SVB vs Daz match, in which SVB won handily. I imagine the challenge was getting Euro players to travel.

Danny Harriman matches.

The laser in the pool cue drama makes me shake my head to this day.

Honestly, I got tired of Shane matches, and with 18 of them, its easy to see why.

Justin always said that he always had the largest turnout with any SVB match.

I think the lack of variety hurt them some.

I wasnt just making sh!t up when I say Shane drew the money. But hey...what do I know?

It'll be great to have the Shane-Efren 15-ball rotation match on Vimeo if possible. That could just be a classic instructional on rotation.
