now lets just say for arguments sake that what your saying is true because it could be because shane was a guy who i considered a friend although i had beaten him out of a few hundred playing 1-hole giving him like 10-3 so you can understand he did not know much about pool but i would bet my life he understood the ramifications of telling someone i would dump.now again youwant people to believe that i would send someone outside to tell a bunch of strangers that i want to dump someone for 17 grand if i was stupid enough to actually say something like that it sure would not be to five people that i have just met.and another thing you say you have not said bad things about me but you have called me a trecherous clown and someone that would dump and yes you did basically say you would kick my ass when i confronted you in athens so i figure you are mad at me about something i just hope we can let it all go..one more thing i will take a lie detecter test for 1000 and when i pass which i will i will then take two aside at tanglewood cc in my home town of milton and play you golf for 1000 the reason i want to play there is thats one of the few courses i can break 85

I don't have any ill feelings either. I said that in the reply to your pm. I will also take a lie detector test as will the rest of the witnesses, saying that your "friend" did propose the dump to us. Whether you were directly involved is inconsequential now , since I have already stated that you did not directly propose it and you have stated that you had nothing to do with it. I think that we should play on a neutral course since I am giving the weight. Besides , what makes you think that I can break 85?

Hey Happy Jack,
Please correct me here if I'm wrong.

It appears to me that you don't know John Schmidt is a Pro-Player & is known by someone in most any poolroom he walks into. He does not enter the rooms "incognita".
John is known in the straight pool world as "Mr 400".
He is also a good action player & ghost player.

Example: My partner B.W. & I let John play several ghost games at Kennesaw Billiards, we lost.
A few days later, at Hollywood, my partner B.W. allowed John to play the 15 ball one pocket ghost, odds 4:1. Out of the gate John ran 2 racks, B.W. pulled up, we lost again.

Even though we lost, I believe John is a stand up guy in todays world & do not believe John would dump his horse.
Being a Pro-Player he can not afford that rep.

In my opinion there are three kinds of pool players: the hustler, the player & the pro. Now we have a formula (Hustler turns Player & then turns Pro).

I believe Derek Leonard (aka: Chew-Tobacco),
will soon be turning Pro.

Hey Lamar,
I agree with you. I have never heard anything bad about John either. Also on a side note we have all the inlays in your new cue and are almost turned to size. Should have it ready in a few weeks.

John was already pretty well known for being in Billiards Digest a couple of times. He was in it 2 summers ago when he won the Firecracker Open in Springhill, FL. I don't think he was trying to hide his face when he posed for that pic. He actually played jam up un that event too. He blew away Mika in the finals. From what I can tell from the times I have been able to conversate with John, he is a complete gentleman and a polite pool player. I have never seen him act inappropriately. He gives pool players a good name. After he won at Capone's, he was also very modest and felt lucky to win such a tough field of 64 which was mostly champs!

John, good luck with your game and hopefully you'll run 401 next time!

Here isw something you might not know-My friend had him in the calcutta at the Big Apple Classic and he quit in the middle of a match. I cant remember the details-Maybe john can fill us in.

It really is nothing special. My mom went into labor real fast, got in the car, and before she knew it, I was there. For what I was told, my labor lasted about 9 minutes. My birth certificate reads born en route to the hospital. Also, I was born on Lake Shore Drive aka LSD.

When you buu someone in a calcutta you are taking a chance with them. I am not saying that it is ok for someone to just leave, but there can be circumstances that are make you leave early.

I was running a tournament at Chris's Billiards about 2 years ago, and the player who my friend and I bought in the calcutta had 3rd locked. He decided to leave and not come back the next day because he didn't want to wait. He never even apologized. I learned from that day just to not buy him in the future even though he is a very good shot.

Since John is following this thread, why not just wait and see
if John would like to respone.

The thing I hate the most is when you buy someone and they place in the money and then want a tip for getting in the money! That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I can't tell you how many times my team was bought in a golf calcutta ( in which the payouts are much larger) and we ended up winning. I would never think of asking for a tip, or handout, just because we made someone else money. We always try to buy our team and at least buy half back, but to ask someone for a tip is insane. I bought Tony Watson in a calcutta one time, among others, and he ended up splitting first with Shannon Daulton. I think I ended up making about $75 after all that I had in the calcutta. He had the nerve to come up to me and ask for a tip. I told him if he would give me part of the amount that he won in the tournament then I would give him part of the calcutta. If the player puts nothing up then why should he get part of the money?

I drew John in a tournament at Hardtimes, Bellflower back when he used to live out here. I don't know him to well but what I do know is that he is one hell of a player to watch. I think he won the Reno, Sands tournament a few years back, didn't he?

i noticed your thread about me quiting in the middle of a match and you said i dont know the details so maybe john will fill us in.so i will, i also noticed how you said when you buy an idiot thats what you get so i thought i would say i really dont appreciate thatbut anyway it was not the middle of a match the score was 10-3 in favor of my opponent and i had just missed a combo and left a easy out so i shook his hand .one more thing as you can see i dont use proper punctuation and can barely type 10 words so i never write anything but when i see someone taking a cheap shot at making me look like a bad guy it pisses me off because its normally from someone who cant play and is jealous of anyone thats good at anything so i kind of understand.well take it easy everyone and ill see you at derby.

You would have made NOTHING, and in fact lost money, if it was not for
his effort in the tournament. Fact is, you're riding his shirttail, depending
on his talent to make you MONEY. It is called a 'Jelly', and it depends on how much you won, small win, small jelly, big win, decent jelly. Players do this with railbirds sidebetting on a money match too. Would it have killed you to have thrown him a $20?

lol, I got introduced to the word "jelly" by Mark Gregory. Who asked for it so much, we sent him an entire platter full as a joke at the Steak n' Shake one night. A player has the opportunity to buy half of him or herself back, otherwise the calcutta has nothing to do with their finances. I have never had a player that didn't make it in the money come up to me and offer to give me some jelly because I lost money. The players play for the tournament money which is fine if they pay the entry fee. If I put up MY money to buy a player in the calcutta then you can bet your sweet ass I'm keeping it. Like I said, I've played in 50 or so big golf calcuttas and no one has ever offered any winning team "jelly" even though the payoff is much larger. If the player thinks that he is the best , then why not buy himself in the calcutta? Then again, with morons giving jelly to players without them putting anything up, I guess I wouldn't bid on myself either.

In So. Calif, especially at Hard Times, John was known as "Victorville" John.
We all miss his type of action, which was stand up and straight on with no BS. Watched Jack Cooney educate him in 1 Hole and he was always a good sport while learning. NO bad words about him out here.

The parallel portrayed isn't even close.

And then, too, because of the new breed of moronic posters that seems to appear from time to time, the forum doesn't project a comfortable environment for pro players like John Schmidt. After a while, it becomes quite difficult to read the good posts when you have to wade through the multitude of negative ones.

Kick 'em when they're up, and kick 'em when they're down. Sad, but true. :(
