I was gambling, he unscrewed with 4 balls left, I raked 'em

I would do the same thing, even if it was in the middle of a set-I'd still take the game.

Its simple, tell your oppenent your going to unscrew(if you are for some reason) and then there is no issue. But when you unscrew without saying anything its too late you should lose that rack, set, match.
 
when you quit your done, guy unscrews his cue he just forfeited....

anyone says any differnt just give em a kick to the bawls...tell em the Grey GHost and his steel toed boot sent it to them.

that ain't so bad. i think you did the right thing. i probably would have asked first if he quit though.

i was playing in modesto (we were playing a real cheap set) and i got to the hill first and the guy i was playing just paid me and quit. he was 1 game away from the hill
 
tap tap tap! somebody gives me the last ball in the rack by unsrewing or whatever, i always take it, like its going out of style. when they show the white flag, game's over!
 
Are you asking because the guy complained when you raked them in?

I've only had that happen a few times and I always just head to my seat and wait for them to rack or pay me. Most of the time the guy gave up and it was an 'on purpose' forfiet. One time the guy asked why I didn't shoot the nine. I told him he just forfieted the match and he looked all confused. I set him straight.
 
Filipino Gene pulled that move at Family Billiards one time, the guy half ass shot and missed thinking the game was over, Gene says "I was just changing my shaft" and ran out the rest of the game and got away with it. 50 entry usppa tourney if I remember right.

Half the people around were pissed, the other half just laughed thinking it was funny to watch a crafty old timer pull a move.

I accept the forfeit and I miss it on purpose just to screw with them. ha!
 
Ok, I'll spill, lol.

It was 10 ball. He left me an easy last few and he was perhaps frustrated by this point. He missed, turned away, unscrewed, and walked towards his case. His body language was unmistakable.

I immediately raked the balls (gently) with my cue and when he turned back to look at this unmistakable noise, I was unscrewing. He may have given the obligatory "what did you just do?" look, but he knew. And he paid off without issue.

However... A couple on the rail were "WTF!!?? You can't assume that!"

He unscrews - that's it.

But for the record, this isn't just based on long standing custom. This exact situation is addressed in the rules. From the WPA World Rules:

1.11 Concession
If a player concedes, he loses the match. For example, if a player unscrews his jointed playing cue stick while the opponent is at the table and during the opponent’s decisive rack of a match, it will be considered a concession of the match.

Way to go!!!
