The springiness is the biggest problem with me. A lot of the diamond smart tables have rails that seem to kick the cueball off faster then it came in. It reminds me of those kicker things in a pinball machine. You just cannot tell how far the ball is going to come off the rail.
Makes it very tough to play position. Generally players will play into the rail for position because it slows the ball down. But you can't do that on these smart tables.
Some of the smart tables have normal rails and play similar to the 9' diamonds. I don't know what the difference is. Maybe they replaced the rails or it is a newer model.

I agree with you, but that's kind of a drawback to using real dyed leather, but the answer may be in taking a look at a man-made leather like a patent leather, kind of like what patent leather shoes and purses are made out of...we'll see.

Diamond has already addressed that issue at the factory level, but unfortunately can't go back and up grade tables already built and sold, but...any table already on the market can be updated to play the same as a new production model...through an upgrade...which is what I'm working with other table mechanics to be able to teach how to do.
When Diamond improves their tables, they do it do better their current production models...in order to make them better for future sales, but like the car industry....if you own a 2002 model Mustang, it's not going to have all the same features that a 2011 model has...and Ford can't go back and turn your 2002 into a 2011 because you want a newer model...the best they can do...is to sell you a new 2011 Mustang
But, like I said, there is a way of upgrading any Diamond already on the market to play like a new production model.

I'm with Nathan, personally, they are not as "pretty" as other, cheaper tables.
For instance, if my friends seen my Brunswick table next to a Diamond, they would think mine is a way better table... just bc it looks pretty. But I would take the Diamond any day!

IF...... that's a BIG "IF" the EPA could FIND you.......... I don't think they could catch up!!
I do feel your pain though..... I had to put $1k into mine last month, and this month the bill comes due...... ugh!

Glen, it sounds like you know what the pro-am/ smart probs are and what can and can't be done. So I'll address something else. Diamond had that prototype table with the curved legs at the last WPBA event, if this is a table they are considering for the home market tell them to round the corners so they are only knuckle busters not knuckle breakers. lol
The black looks hideous on TV, they could improve the look of all the finishes really.

I have one issue that we deal with all the time on the Barbox's at our place. (And maybe a possible solution).
How can we prevent balls from jumping off the track in the middle of the table. I can't count how many times I've had to pull the rack out and stick a wall cue in there to push a ball back onto the track.
I know this happens because people drop chalks into the pockets and there is really no way to prevent that.
Is it possible to widen the opening at the bottom of the tracks so that chalks would fall through and not clog up the tracks?
Or possibly extend the height inside the table so that balls stop getting stuck on the ledge inside? Or bank the edges so the balls fall back into the track on their own?!?

i have had a 9 ft for over a year only had 1 ball get stuck.
Well, I imagine that you take much better care over your table than the bar patrons. They drop chalk in every week.
(not including all the Red and Tan chalk I throw away each week that people bring from home)
I actually think that the Gandy's have the best ball return system.....they one's that i've seen had a rubber coating on them and they are quiet and don't take a week and a half to get you the balls like the diamond does.
I'd leave the diamond rails alone (no tapered top rail)
Just switch the pockets to undyed leather

Maybe yall should try the new valley bar boxs, 5 bolts per rail no dead rails anymore, new style pockets. I just bought 10 brand new ones for my pool hall and they hit great and the cost of these to diamonds are alot better for the poolhalls.:thumbup:

All the Diamonds now have the ball returns lined with neoprene rubber, and have for the last several years now. As far as taking for ever to return the balls....what Diamonds are you playing on?The ball return on a Gandy is no where near as fast as what's used in the ProAms as the balls pocketed in the side pockets and end corner pockets...only have to travel half the lenght of the table to return...and the return from the head pockets is 3 seconds at the longest
