If you could, but had no say?

If you could have one living cue builder build you a cue who would it be? Now the hard part, you get no say period in what it looks like, materials, weight or any variables. You get what you get. Keep in mind the builder could build a PJ or MW if they want. Who do you think would hit it out the park or do you even care what it looks like or only how it plays?

I don't have to speculate,I have done this several times with
South west cues and Szamboti,Gus and Barry

I call and say please send me a cue
sometimes if i get a choice i ask for ebony or a 9 point

When i talked to Gus I asked for him to make me a cue,he said Ok

I asked do I need to make any choices"he said i will make you a nice cue don't worry about it"
I said good

Even Larry Vigus who makes super cues, when I sell the one i have ,I ask him to make me another one that plays the way I like them

Jake agreed to make me one today and i did ask for a box cue

I don't think that what i do is that unusual, but cue makers often ask how much should it weigh and I prefer under 20 down to 19 but this is pretty normal these days

I saw where Barry made a cue a certain way for a 9 ball player and another way for a straight pool player,so I asked him"you can really do stuff like that"

He replied"that is what a cutom cue maker does"
No foolin says i

Then thinking he was sporting with me,I replied,"well what about me?
What do you do special for me?"

He says,"what differebnce would it make, you never keep one"

So I dropped the conversation.

It would be Barry. Waiting about 10 years now and losing hope...

Dennis Searing for me , PJ or all jacked up. Doesn`t matter to me at all. I want playability 1st, all the bling in the world wont pocket you any balls.

Gee.........I dunno.....maybe

Joel Hercek......full splice...

But if I had any say......18.4 to 18.7 ozs., flat faced ivory joint, 4 ebony points with veneers, curly or tiger maple forearm, ebony sleeve, shafts: 1" ivory ferrules, 12.75mm w/ 16 -17" taper, original Moori brown tips (medium) if available or else Kamui Clear Black (soft), ivory butt cap and Cortland Linen #12 wrap......Celtic Cross Design by Joel's choice.

Hey Tom, does it sound like I've given this any thought?

If I could obtain any variance approval from CA Fish & Wildlife, I'd place an order tomorrow and hopefully not expire before Joel finishes my cue. I know there are Szamboti fans out there......and other cue-maker adorers as well.......Let's face it, at my age ain't gonna change.........Mr. Hercek rocks my world.....I may not get to own one of his cues but maybe some day I'll get to meet him.

Matt, one of these days I'm gonna stop out in CA on your doorstep. Lol

Interesting to think about because with absolutely no say, little things become important. I only like linen wraps, so while I'd love to say Tascarella I think my chances of getting a leather wrap would be high. So, if it was going to be a cue to play with, I'm thinking maybe a Southwest. Not my typical style of cue but they look nice and linen seems to be their default wrap so I think my chances would be good of getting a cue I'd like to play with.

You can get it

Slide, you can get a channel cut or a wrap installed, but you may have to pay for it.

I would just have an emotional crisis trying to decide and end up missing the deal.

Me too!

Searing without question. I don't care if it looks like a broom stick, I know it will play like a 10k cue.

I'd probably go with Bob Frey. I've hit a few of his cues and love them. After the fact I'd have to have it turned down to the diameter I like.

Sounds like a poor way to run a busness to me! With those conditions, it would have to be a Hulsey.

Larry

Mike Lambros. He'll make an excellent playing cue, all the rest is gravy.

Not a knock on any of the others mentioned, I'd take any of them.
