If You Could Give One Single Bit Of Advice To A Lower Level Player . . .

to help improve their game, what would it be.

I have quite a few but I'll start with this one since I see see the offense very often.

Unless you are 'jacked up' shooting over an obstructing ball, keep your cue as level as possible so as not to impart unwanted spin on whitey.

What single bit of advice would you offer to help them improve?

Quit now and save yourself a lifetime of frustration. :)

Seriously, keep your head down and finish your stroke and perhaps equally as important, hit the ball softer.

I agree great advise......"Don't Jack it if you don't have too!"

Take every bit of advice with a grain of salt. For every one that can actually help you, there are 9 others that will F your game up. If you find something working for you keep going with it!

Oh and don't gamble with any one who has a GIANT check on the wall with his name on it ;)

If I don't know anything about the player, I guess I'd be forced to say "bend down and shoot with a level cue" as my only bit of advice. Nothing else is likely to help them if they jack up the stick and shoot fully standing.

But if they already know that, the advice I'd give is "focus on controlling the cue ball's position, even if it means you might miss the shot." ...I think this will take a player further than "make the ball". Ballmaking almost happens by itself with experience, but playing position requires constant conscious effort.

This is the one. I see so many bangers jack up when they don't have to.
Where does it say that if the cue ball is frozen to the rail that you have to jack up to hit it?

Keep the head still.

All too often, I see players of various skill jump straight up but this would be the one thing I would continually tell a beginner or a lower level player.

Take lessons, read books, buy videos, watch pros play, compete, play for a little $ and small tourneys, keep your head still, don't shoot so damn hard.

Next to the usual advices (stance etc).

SLOW DOWN YOUR BACKSWING!

Chalk your tip every shot. This will translate to consistent PSR later down the line when it becomes more important. Often overlooked is footing. Try to get that toe parallel with the cue!
