If you could have a plain jane player from any maker...?

Predator 4k1 or 3k1 with a Z2. If I HAD to play with only one cue for the rest of my life and it had to be a plain jane then that would be it. I know EXACTLY how it plays, I know it's good enough to do anything I want on the table.

If it had to be by a "custom" maker then...someone who makes thin butts and makes an actual playable taper in 12mm, not a log....You tell me?

The extra plain plain janes that were by best over the years:

All birdseye, linen wrap, Josswest

All cocobolo-linen wrap Tim Scruggs

Birdseye Tad

All steel joint, original shafts

Ha,nothing better than a McD D-1,D-2,or D-3.I have the D-3 with original nylon wrap still in mint condition. Also I have great playing Pechauer Pro-H.For semi fancy I have Meucci Original JR-1,Andy Gilbert J/B,and 4 pt.,4 veneer,ebony/ivory Rick Howard. The McD is a top player !!!

I have a Scruggs that fits this role as a second cue. If I had to have one made now by a living cue maker that would be Bob Frey.

Pat Diveney, Mike Webb, Madden, Larry Vigus, Klapp...if you want to play with the shafts that comes with.
If you play with a different (LD) shaft...pick and Action Inlay cue and match a low dflection shaft...you'll have a solid player :chuckles:

Gulyassy all day long. He's perfected feedback and hit. His shafts are the nuts, and I love his PJ cues, but am addicted to my -R- and Schon...but if I had to go with a PJ cue, it'd be the same model Earl shoots with, maybe not so much the 18 inch extension...

Diviney

I have 2 by Pat Diviney. A Custom Ebony Hustler and a Cocobolo "bar cue". Both are 61" long with a pair of Pat's 30" long matching Lake Salvage shafts he tapered to my specs. They are all the cue I will ever need.

Pat is as honest and reliable as any one I know, a real pleasure to deal with. His work is very very good!

As the OP can hopefully see by now there is no right or wrong answer
to this question.
If you're gonna buy a PJ cue and put an LD shaft on it you may as well get
a cue made by the LD maker. Be it Predator or someone else.
It won't matter what cue you get. You can do it all with them all.
Long as the cue is straight. Just get used to it, play it for years, and you'll
out play anyone out there.

I don't know how but forgot the cue that is by far my favorite, and the plainest of plain

You're one sick puppy.

For me, Tad or DPK just based on things I've heard. From what I've played with, Tasc or Lambros.

EDIT: Oh, and Bluegrass. Love me some Bluegrass.

EDIT EDIT: And an old Schon R-1. Okay, I'm done I promise.

I almost mentioned all birdseye Bluegrass, but the rings make it too fancy
After my first post, I remembered that I had the plainest of janes.
When I put them away and forget about them, I literally forget about them.
