Should I call a foul on my very self?

If you foul, but your opponent doesn't see it, should you call it on yourself?

You should call all fouls on yourself.
Otherwise, why are you playing the game?
It's for your own good...and everyone's.
I saw a player doing a drill, he touched the cue-ball and then shot....
...I told him not to do that, start over, and you'll stop fouling the cue-ball.

Of course you should call the foul. Did you really need to ask this? Basically you are asking if its ok to cheat.

I play a lot of call your shot 8 ball & very often call a shot 'no good' on myself when my opponent did not see or understand why until I explain what happened.
I'm sure you've heard of the words honor & integrity. Well they are only words unless we make them what they are intended to mean.
What value does a win have if it was obtained through 'cheating' your opponent. Besides that, you cheat yourself of the opportunity to achieve a ligitimate win.

It is interesting that someone actually feels a need to ask such a question in the context in which it is asked. "....call it on yourself if your opponent didn't see it." I ask the questioner; What do you think?
There are a few odd situations however which call for another look at the question. Here is one such situation:
Suppose you are playing One Pocket and your opponent needs one ball and has game ball hanging deep in his pocket to the point where you know you can't get it out. In addition, there is one or more open balls across the head string which would make scratching with his ball a usless choice of shots. You have no viable shot at your pocket either. What do you do short of surrender?
Well, you might just intentually double hit the cue ball and pocket his hanging eighth ball and stop the cue ball at the lip of the pocket. Now you call a foul on yourself. What is the call in a case like that?
How many of you know the answer?

Let me share the answer that the all-time greatest one pocket player once gave:

I have one big problem with that.
You might just do what you say. But people Like Everlino and Dennis you would never get the chance to call a foul on yourself.
They would be watching and paying attention and they would call it. You don't have to be so naive.
If you are shooting a shot where there is a chance of you fouling, they will be there to watch and see what you do.
And if you foul they will call it.
They do what you are supposed to do.
Like the ref says, in the ring protect yourself at all times.
And if you want to be a nice guy, and call a foul on your self,
And it makes you feel good, go ahead.
I would like to see you doing that on a game ball shot where you are betting 10 thousand dollars of your own money.
And you call a foul on yourself. By accidentally touching the cue ball. And you spot up a ball that you're opponent cant miss.
To win your ten thousand dollars I would like to see what you do in that spot. Talk is cheap. It doesn't cost you anything.
I don't think you would call a foul on yourself. If you could get away with it.
But we will never know the real answer.
And why would you tell the player you fouled. If there is no such rule.
And whose responsibility is it to call the foul. Answer these two questions.
And then I will see if everything adds up to your answer. And these are no trick questions.
And one more thing If I back someone. And they don't watch the game. And the player fouls.
And my player doesn't call it, I let him know what a f idiot he is.
I would never blame the other player for not calling the foul on himself.
I would blame the idiot I'm backing. And I have to be a bigger idiot then the guy I'm backing.
What am I doing backing a fool like that. And I might never back him again.
For being that stupid not to watch the game. And I have never backed someone where that happened.

And sometimes it can be so close it could go either way. And if a player is that stupid and irresponsible.
He deserves to lose. And people think they're nice guys when they do that.

I know a handful of guys that wouldn't call a foul on themselves. They're all shady and arrogant. I would never trust them. These are the same guys that say it was a good hit when you call a clear foul! They say you should have called a ref! LMFAO.
