If you had room for a pool table???

If you had the space for the pool table of your dreams, if you had the money for it and the room with your significant others blessing, would you put the table in your home?

Or do you prefer to go to the pool rooms for all of the other things that they provide.

I don't have room for one but if I did, I "think" I would like to have one in my home but am really not sure. I kind of fear that in some way I might lose the love for the game if I had a table in my home. I have to say it would be nice to have a table at home to practice on when you felt like it, instead of waiting for a particular time to show up at the pool room.

Not having to put yourself into the smoky environment just to get in or stay in stroke would be a super plus for me.

I would not want to irritate my better half with the clicking & clanking of balls being pocketed for hours on end, day after day. So, if I did have a table at home, I would probably like to have it in a separated room where I could play at any hour I chose.

I like having the ability of playing and practicing at home any time I desire. My equipment is always in top notch condition and I can listen to whatever type of music I chose....for free!

But there are also some draw backs. I am now used to nice equipment and most bar boxes that I play on in our league are junk in comparison. I am also used to an 8 foot table more than a 9 foot or bar box. So I have to make some adjustments here and there but I feel like it's worth it in the long run.
 
I like having a table in my house because if I finish my housework (cleaning, fixing, etc.) and it's only say 8/9 pm, I'll go down and practice while if I had to go out to play, I wouldn't go out that "late".

At the same time, if I don't get out and compete, I get complacent and my practice gets very lazy.

So I need a good balance.

I most definitely would have one...sadly, it's not gonna happen.
 
I have a 9 foot Diamond in my basement and it gets 20+ hours of play a week on it. I have yet to get tired of playing on it and I've been playing on it for 6 years.

We have one pool room and the tables suck. We had a nice room with Diamonds that was open for about a year, but it closed in April. I would go out and play there, gamble and get in tournaments. With the room that stayed open, I would rather stay at home.

I have a few friends that also have Diamonds, so I can go there and play as well.
 
There was a time when I felt an urge to play all day, and even do straight practice or drills. The urge is not there anymore. Now I need to play other people to have fun. I do also like to get out and socialize. Don't do that enough, and pool gives me the excuse.

18 year old me: hell yeah
30+ year old me: naw.

It would be different maybe if I were centrally located to all my friends, and had a nice place where I can fit 10 people down there, plus a big tv for the ones not shooting. Even then, it'd be an uphill battle convincing them... they like their pitchers of beer and cute waitresses.
 
I love having a table in my home. Always thought it would be awesome and have not lost that feeling.

What I like is, I can practice anytime I want, even for 5-15 min. on a whim.
No greasy hands on the goods.
I see a tough shot made in competition, I can get up and practice it over and over 'till I get it down/or not.
No one puts their chalk down upside down:smile:.
I can teach my kids to play at home. They can roll the balls around and naturally pick up on collision angles off balls/cushions as they have fun.
Entertaining at home with a table is good.
Easy to set up, record play, watch it a minute later, make adjustments.

I'm saving for the Diamond Pro 9'er, it's something I can play to the grave, give to my kids, even use the slate as a headstone maybe.....LOL
 
When I lived in CA I looked for a house that would accommodate my table. I'd practice in the mornings at home and several times a week I'd go over to the local room in the evening to hit balls around with the folks there. I'd also have my friends over to the house to lock horns.

Now we've retired in WA in a beautiful setting; 5 acres of trees, half an hour from town, a 3,500+ home, and quiet! Get this, the house doesn't have enough room in any one room for a table 8' or larger. I suppose that we could tear out a wall in the 'Cathouse'. But it's an engineered wall (don't want the hassle) and the room is right above the master bedroom. BOO, no table now.

Without a doubt, most definitely, indubitably, absolutely, most assuredly, unbelievably, positively yes, I would want a table in my house.

I have on in my house, but I still go out to play with some of my friends and for league.
 
I have a nice one and it is the Hungarian Nut.

I do agree with the motivation factor though. A man can only play with hizzelf so long. And there are very few folks in the poolroom I want aware of where my house is.
 
My table is in storage since I moved into an apartment, but I would like to have enough room for 9' Gold Crown.
Even if you play the majority of your pool at the pool hall, having you own table helps you stay in stroke.
I was definitely playing better when my table was set up.

Right with you on this! My game was much sharper when I had my table.
Both is good.

I would definitely like to be able to have my own table again.

except when the wife wants to convert it to a food serving table for one of her parties :mad:
 
I want both.

Not having a local pool room makes a 9' table
at home a necessity. Built my room away from
main house. People can come and go and the
rest of the family isn't aware of a thing.

Loud breaks, gunfire, cues breakin', screamin 'n cussin
isn't heard in the main house.

It's great!

Still, I would hugely enjoy a local pool room!!!!
 
My future realtor will have his hands full. I need room for a pool table and and a model railroad.

I'm unwilling to compromise on either.
 
I wouldn't give up my table without a very compelling reason... I measured rooms when house shopping with a 9' pool table in mind...

I do hate going to a "pool room" with less than stellar equipment in order to have a real person to compete against. My table has turned me into a pool snob; I notice if the cloth is too worn to take english like it should, or if the balls are mismatched, or the pocket angles don't accept a well-hit ball. Of 4 places I've played outside of my house recently, 2 of them had diamonds in good condition. I enjoyed playing because there wasn't really any adjustment necessary. The other 2 I hated, because knowledge of table rolls and irregularities were as much a factor in winning as strategy and shooting.
 
I picked my house based on space for the pool table.
Looked at over 30 houses and ended up further away from work than I wanted.
A friend of mine did the same thing. :)

On Thursday my Diamond 9 footer will be setup!!!
 
Joey, Joey, Joey, is this a trick question? Of course the response for a question like this on a billiard website will have a percentage of close to 100 in favor of.

I've had my table for over 30 years and still love the convenience of hitting balls anytime I feel like it. I think it's great to be watching TV or doing something else and just happen to think about a certain pool situation or shot sequence and then be able to set up that shot and try it.

I still go to the pool rooms to play for competition and such but it's nice to go there knowing that you're not completely out of stroke. Plus for practice, look at all the money you save.

One thing is that your table must be in a place where you can control the heat or cold otherwise what's the point if you can only use it on certain times.
 
pool table

i have one in my basement,for 27 years now. gc 3, i can play and and study anytime i want, plus save money on table time. i also like to play on leagues to meet people with the same passion.
