Knowing what you know what would you focus on first..developing a stroke shot making...Position Play?

I just started for the fitst time, literally have less than 5 hours table time, Im focusing on stroke - aim, as now I feel i still cant get the ball where I want to it to go ...

focus danielsan focus

focus on paying attention to how the balls react/roll and enjoying the game for what it is first.......it will mean a lot in the long run in regard to the amount of enthusiasm you'll have for it when you want to put the extra effort in via practising to get better.

Eyes in the right position..........

Knowing what you know what would you focus on first..developing a stroke shot making...Position Play?

If you see the shot correctly with the eyes the body and stroke will follow.

Are you yourself just starting?

I'd focus really hard on getting out of the poolroom and getting on the golf course.

Learn the stop shot from all distances. This covers the stroke and the most important shot in pool at once IMO.

When I first started playing pool thirty years ago my father who was a top level player told me to learn how to draw the ball. HE SAID, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A MULLET IF YOU CAN'T DRAW THE CUE BALL. So, for months I worked on shooting all shots with draw. I figured it out later, he was not the sort of person with the patience to sit there and teach me how to play pool but he put ideas in my head that ended up working. Learning how to draw the ball will develope your STROKE. I think you will learn how to aim eventually with enough practice but a good stroke is the nuts.

Yes, learning how to stop the cue is the start but I think the next step is draw.

Sounds good Caesar i can draw from short distances however i seldom use it as sometimes i miss the shot when i attempt it(unless its close shot)...but i will work on that to

I would say that if you HAD to name the single most important fundamental of shooting pool, the stroke would be the #1 answer given by most people. It doesn't matter if you do everything else right, if you don't hit the cueball where you intend to, you're going to miss that shot (unless it's a really close shot). The other fundamentals, if not done using textbook form, can be overcome with a straight, smooth, repeatable stroke. As far as aiming goes, with enough practice this will come to you eventually. But it doesn't matter if your aim is PERFECT if you can't deliver the cueball to the correct point on the object ball because of a wobbly stroke.

I would say that as far as beginner to intermediate players go, more shots are missed by a bad stroke than by improper aiming.

If pool was a career and people were taught to play pool, I think there would be a lot of stroke and stance instruction early on with no ball on the table to get the concept without the stress of pocketing balls. Perhaps just stroking down a line on the table learning to set up, check aim, stroke, evaluate then get up. Next there would be a ton more of stroking with just a cue ball. The mother drills etc. Instruction on the power of making a decision and committing to a single shot. Then the stop shot and the tangent line. Follow and draw are will past that and of course the vertical axis would be the focus. Do the fundamental things right early and the game will open up that much quicker.

I was going to say focus on the girl sitting over in the corner of the pool room, but that may have it's own set of problems so do what millions of other players have done over the years and that is head for the local poolhall with you buddies, bang some balls around, and have fun. All the rest will take care of it's self. :)

1st: searching another job with more freetime
2nd: searching an instructor ^^

First of all, everyone wants 2 put their 2cents into the equation, however the fact remains U are brand new to thiis wonderful game.
So your first order of business is making little baby shots and consistently making those Baby shots until until U feel comfortable with your stance at the table and striking the cue ball in the center.

Forget the nonsense of moving balls around and putting english on the cue ball.
U must feel confident about making balls ball into the pockets first.
Then U will enjoy the game instead of feeling frustrated over not pocketing any balls.

Then sit and watch a couple of good pro's play on the Youtube videos and concentrate on their ball striking and posture at the table and of course keeping your head down close to the shaft of the cue in order to get the best view of your shot.

Watch the live streaming from Justins ( The Action Report )

My recipe will make U happy !!
Enjoy,
