I'm Afraid Az Has Lost Its Way

Oh, well then, never mind. :)

I, too, bemoan the negativity of the board of late, but it seems to be a pretty accurate reflection of the public in general. I have never known so many 'angry' people. A lot of folks these days are angry at something or someone or just the government. I see that anger in the forums and on the roads and I hear angry words in cafes and along sidewalks.

Though I wonder how much of this is my own imagination. My grandfather's generation said the generation of my father (the late twenties) was a waste and yet they went on to win WWII.

My father said my generation was a waste and we started by going to the moon and finished by driving the American economy and society in general upward.

So my generation trashes the young of today and gets angry or rude when they see jeans slung low or tattoos or piercings. And yet this generation will probably make such strides in health care that they will touch immortality and, if the economics work out, might witness a world at peace.

But I do not remember the general anger level being this high before. The older generation was pretty mad at the long-hair days of the 60's, so maybe this will cycle down again.

This ---> HERE ;)

I think a lot of the forum anger has to do with grudges and old hurts that people choose to carry around and keep alive. I once saw a post here on AZ about how this develops in closed social groups like online forums and it seems to me like that is what's happening here. Much of the negativity has to do with people looking to fight with the same people week in and week out over new "issues". I have a couple of guys that follow me around and often comment negatively on my thoughts or try to make fun of me but all I really ever see them saying is, "you really hurt my feelings back then".

The scary part is that if that's what it is, then its just going to grow and grow until this place gets more and more unpleasant. I've never understood how a bunch of opinionated guys can't express their opinions without having to get mad at (and grudge hold against) the folks that don't agree with them.

Thanks

Kevin

You mean you have a fan club too?

but at least you don't have people speaking for you. :p

best,
brian kc <---- actually, kina like that, now all I need is an entourage . . .

Nothing as extensive as yours. I have 2 guys that snipe at me fairly regularly in order to warn AZ as a community service that I'm blah blah blah. Just like with yours, they are seldom talking about whatever the present discussion is but rather some old wound they figure they suffered at my hands.

I think its insecurity to be honest with you. If you are secure in your opinions you really don't need everybody to agree with you and its really not necessary to hate those that don't or to try to beat them into submission or to follow them around and punish them for disagreeing with you.

I think what you are really saying is the world would be a better place if more people bought stuff from me.

And, for once, I agree with you.

You know, when I put words in your mouth, I like what you say. That's works good.

That makes perfect sense, actually. :)

You know, the OP of this thread and I had a disagreement over (I think) OMGWTF's comments about Mike Deshane. He's a friend of Deshane, I'm a friend of OMGWTF, he said his piece, I said mine, I think we could both see each other's sides without changing our own opinions and here's the big key: I think we managed to disagree with each other on one issue without it effecting the way we would treat each other for the rest of our lives.

I'm sorry but you can't convince me that say, JB and JoeV (both guys I like and respect) never agree on one single thing in this whole beautiful world just chock full of things to agree on? The deal where they both keep coming back to the places where they disagree is a choice they are making.

I wish we could make different choices.

Last night Justin Bergman won the 1p title in Tunica defeating Busty in the final.

Justin captured the attention of many and incredibly, after seeing him play in only 1 match ever, Danny DiLiberto exclaimed (prior to the start of the match) "this kid moves better than Busty".

How's that compliment for a 22 year old?

This kid is incredible and so I went to check out all of the buzz this morning about it here on az and guess what? not one word.

There was, however, about 7 threads to do with James Walden BS, false accusations, and fake apologies. :(

Has az lost it's way?

Are trainwrecks really much more interesting than a 22 year old phenom setting 1p on fire in Tunica?

Roberto Alomar spitting in the umpires face, was that more important than Sandy Koufax's perfect game?

I think I'll go start a thread now congratulating the kid on his very impressive win.

best,
brian kc <---- also gets caught up in trainwreck threads and not proud of it. :embarrassed2:
I was thinking the same things but was hesitant to speak up. Mark Griffin and I have been working very, very hard to form a national, non handicapped, self sustaining, non billionaire reliant league and while I did get some support (mostly in private, TY guys) I was expecting a lot more enthusiasm from the land of az. Questions, advice, support, helk not that I want it but criticism might even have helped us improve something, maybe people were biting their tongues, idk? I got a lot of crickets on what I think is a great topic. And shake my head when I see the negative threads take off like rockets.

Joe T., if there was a clear post about what you were trying to do - I missed it. But that's entirely possible. :)

Had some good posts in which I was trying to get some buzz going with, mostly looking for players to either sign up at rooms we had already contacted, ask rooms about it to try and make it easier for room owners to find their 8 players or to reach out to some other players that may not frequent az (which is the case with a lot of players A-Pro) I'll go back and get some for ya but here's the press release;

Keep up the fight Joe! It's a good fight and a great crusade. Start new threads with different keywords, or just bump up the original as long as it still is on point to the thread. Not sure if I'd ever be invited to play, but I love the idea.

I hope in your travels you make it into Wisconsin. Pool really buzzes there year round.

Well for a short time I was the point person for one of the more well known corps., for their new product line...you might consider getting a pro marketing person/presenter (who loves pool and doesn't talk BS since people see right through that) to represent you and your interests...I would expect you might already have someone, but if not it's something to consider anyway...and yes, you need to build support over time, esp. in the current environment...just my 0.02 anyway....

Mark has been using the normal pr routes through the pool world but yes I'm sure a pro would be helpful. I'm not sure how they would get the word out to the small market we're looking for, aspiring to pro players but you're right they would probably do a better job than I am. Az is a small part of the entire outside pool world but when we want something to happen, I've seen it happen and I guess I was hoping for a lil more of that for what I think is a great concept.
