You joined the one pocket site in March of 2013 and you act like you don't know anything? I think this is less than a full verity.
I'll give you a short version of the answer you seek:
One of them wanted to rub shoulders with top players and be known to and by them. The other was a top player.

OK, it's becoming obvious that ONB is SJD's second ID.
I remember when Dick first started posting on OP.org, he didn't come out of his shell and show his obnoxious self for the first few months. Although I had heard of his rep, IMO he wouldn't have gotten put in the HOF if it was not for Freddy's input.
As most know Dick quit the game and worked for about 20 years. So, not a whole lot of people were familiar with him. He repeatedly declined to talk about his past record, saying he didn't want to brag. But that doesn't mean his ego didn't trumpet out for all to see in short order.
His brag came in his vicious attacks of Freddy B. Specifically about his beat list, and he wasn't shy about saying he probably would have beaten Artie B. had they played in their primes. Yeah, he bragged plenty although he claimed to dislike it. What he really disliked was other people bragging and getting the spotlight.
I asked him once about several of the guys that I figured would have been his contemporaries, and he basically ignored the request. Another poster brought up the fact that SJD had played Fats a session. That would have made a nice story, but Dick couldn't have been bothered to offer it himself.
As far as Brumback is concerned, he made one negative post about Freddy, that I saw, which he later edited. You, Dick, made thousands. And comparing your self to Brumback is laughable. He is more current than you, and he competed in and has won top level competitions in Banks. He is considered to be the best at his 'niche' game (as you call it). Putting him in the Banks HOF was a slamdunk. Now you, what tournaments did you play in? There may not have been as many, but why did you never compete at Johnston City. Were you scared?
And there are several guys that probably deserved the OP HOF more than you Dick, I'll just throw out one name, Danny Jones. He gave a ton more to the game that you ever did, and I believe he won the overall at Johnston City.
And this thing with CJ, it's easy to see it's plain jealousy of a former player, and a guy that was a lot better than SJD ever was. He is a former World No. 1. Once again Dick can't stand it when someone else is getting attention. Maybe you were that good Dick, but you didn't prove it, at least not so anyone would notice.

Freddy was very well liked and respected at OP.org. He was old school pool and told a lot of stories and got a lot of attention. That's what he did to Dick. Why doesn't he get along with you CJ? Probably along the same lines as why he didn't get along with Freddy.

The Pro basketball and football players I've hung out with (at Carsons) always say "it's only bragging if it isn't true" - when Michael Jordan says he's one of the best of all time, it's not bragging, he's merely stating a fact. I'm sure it would still make some insecure people feel funny inside.......and that's more about them than about Michael

Dick joined the 1 pocket site in Dec. 2007. He was still known as "Dick McMorran" then instead of "SJDinPHX".
Danny Jones did not win the 1 pocket event the year he won the overall. Why would he be in the 1 pocket HOF?

What did you ever do for the game of one pocket? Danny devoted his whole life to pool and one pocket was one of his best games. I'm sure you ducked him for life, is that where you got your 'Duck' nickname?

Freddy did not get Dick into the HOF, to me that is pure bs plain and simple although Freddy would have liked to take credit for that along with John Brumback being inducted. Dick is well known at onepocket.org and many posters knew of his skill and abilities along with him being mentioned in the one pocket bible and the Accu-Stats of him beating Cliff Joyner. In the words of Billy I., "Any questions?". :grin-square:

I recall reading some of your long posts on one.pocket.org about your early life, but I don't remember you saying you were from Canada. Did Grady have that right?
No doubt in my mind, he is held in high regard in Arizona and much of the west coast by the old timers. If he posted a beat list, made some DVDs and books he might be internationally known but many guys out there were known mainly in their territory and not at all outside of it just like Artie who was in Chicago or Mike Eufemia from New York and so on. With the internet people are getting exposed to player from all over the country which is why Freddy was so well known but he certainly was not at Dicks level of play all around.
