I'm done.

Good lord Brian! With a rooster tail like that, we could bathe all of the fishermen we passed. That would be a hoot. I'm kind of curious. At fast speeds, you do have a tough time making short cuts with that flat bottom, don't you? I know the jet drive is AWESOME for shallow waters and we've got lots of shallow water down here in the marsh but I was wondering if the jet drive helps or impedes making sharp turns (compared to traditional outboard drives). That is some pretty engine you have there.

Maybe I will have to take some pics of my boat and post them. Cool PICS!

Definitely post up some pics.

First, Johnnyt asked if my boat will go 70 mph. Not quite, more like 63 tops, but that's still plenty fast on the water for me. Even with all of its power (and there's lots of +mods on this engine & jet), the hull design is wide and flat for max stability so it's like you're pushing a dock down the river (maybe a slight exaggeration :) ).

The original intended military use was for roadways (quick bridges) across bodies of water. These hulls were completely bare inside and they would pin two hulls, transom to transom, then place two more alongside those, then two more, and again and again, repeating this as many times as needed until they made it across the other shore. Then they would fasten what would become the flat roadway surface to the top of these hulls. And voila, a bridge was born. You probably have seen these in the old army movies where a bridge gets blown up and they need to build a bridge to make it across, everything from foot soldiers to tanks.

Joey, regarding bathing folks with the roostertail, it's a regular part of my routine. I have a short movie clip of where I nearly blew my 33 yo son off a dock when taking off. Yes, on purpose. The funniest example was a few years ago there were three buddies plus me on board and we were leaving a quiet cove when I throttled up making a gentle turn to starboard and the boys began yelling to me that I just drenched a guy who, I swear, was probably 125 feet away on shore painting on an easel. Completely unintended, I got him good. ;) That story still comes up every now and then and these guys rib me over wondering whether the guy was painting a watercolor. That he may not have started out with one but he sure finished with one. I did go to apologize, he wasn't happy.

As for turning, as long as you're on throttle, spraying water, you can turn well, however, never as responsive as a boat with a propeller. You do lose steerage without throttle but it's really not a big deal to get used to.

Another unique feature is, all that keeps the hull tracking in the water are a total of 6, 2 inch strakes (ribs) on the underside so, imagine this: I can be doing, say, 50 mph going straight down the lake and then go max throttle and cut the steering wheel all the way to one side and the boat will actually do pirhouettes, spinning and spraying. It's a real sight!

For me the best attribute is the shallow draft. This boat can go at speed, in just 12" of water allowing me to get into areas that most others can not. Except maybe kayaks.

There is one tidal area where I fish that, depending on the tide, there can be as much as a 10 foot strip of mud and gravel, no water. No problem, just get up some speed, get real close and then shut her down, skim over the dry spot and you're back in business. I do get some interesting looks.

Enough boat talk.

When you are as good at something as you are, Joey (and Johnny, too), and it has been such a big part of your life, it makes sense that all diversions that may come your way, the good ones and the bad, can distract you for a while but, ultimately, you come back like Jay said, "for the millionth time".

So, I guess, Tight Lines & Good Rolls.

Best,
Brian kc

DUDE! :D

Metal detecting was one of my favorite hobbies. I can't tell you how many hours my son, wife and me have had digging up "treasures". We found plenty of them too. Lots of hours, lots of sweat and lot of fun.

We did the beaches, the old sites, the parks, old houses, old cemeteries (around them, not in them) plantations, and even the backyard. I still have a high end Fisher for coins and a Troy for civil war stuff, gold and anything else I can find. For the moment they are on "ice". Still
metal detecting is a GREAT hobby. ENJOY!

After much scratching of the head and hair pulling, I bought a Tesoro Silver uMax from Colonial Detectors. Have a Garrett ProPinpointer and Leshce digger coming Monday in the mail. Been out only a few times, it's HOT up here after about 8 am! Went out with a couple of guys from the Friendly Metal Detecting Forum a couple of weeks ago. Only found some iron that didn't want to come out of the ground and what looks like a claw foot from a pot metal figurine. One of the guys found a sterling ring with a green stone that looks pretty old. Good time, though! Scouting out local places to hunt.

My son once dug a signal that he thought was trash and it turned out to be 22 Karat Gold bridge of three gold teeth. With the price of gold right now, I think we need to take those teeth to the goldsmith. :D

JoeyA's Rules for Metal Detecting:

Dig all signals!

Always fill your holes.

Always thank those who let you hunt on their land. If they like something in particular be sure and bring it on your next visit. If they have a dog bring a doggie treat still in the bag. That nicety goes a long way with dog owners.

ALWAYS bring extra batteries.

Bring lots of water to wash up after a dig. Oh yeah, bring bandaids and be current with your tetanus shots. (If you never had tetanus shots as a child, or if you're not sure if you had them, you'll need to get 3 tetanus shots in about a 1-year time span. After that, 1 booster shot every 10 years will work for you.

Get a tetanus shot as soon as possible if you have a dirty cut or wound and 5 or more years have passed since your last tetanus shot. Some people may need tetanus immune globulin (TIG) for a wound that is at high risk for developing tetanus. The immune globulin is usually only needed if you have not (or do not know whether you have) completed the tetanus shot series.) See a doctor about the Tetanus shot....

Like with pool. Keep hydrated and eat Whole Wheat Bagels, bananas but most importantly, STAY HYDRATED. That's all I got for ya.....

Filled the boat with gas and oil. Filled the truck with gas. Changed the water displacement fuel filter. Checked the trolling motor batteries for good levels of fluid. Charging the batteries and looking over the boat and noticed a little milk shake colored fluid oozing out of the lower unit. :( The pool gods don't want me fishing right now so I brought the boat and motor in for a little TLC. Probably get a water pump replaced while they are checking for compression leaks in the seals. The little screws that hold the lower unit oil in didn't have their needed O-Rings and must have disintegrated (both of them). Or maybe Buffalo Billiards sabotaged them. 1:30 pm the free handicapped one pocket tournament starts so I guess I will be there while the boat is in the repair shop. :embarrassed2:

Oh well, I'll be ready for next week. :D

We haven't really started hammering the fish just yet. Too much wind, which means dirty water, which means less bites.

We've caught some fish but after a couple of more trips I will be dialed in on the fishies and will put a hurt on them. :yeah

Hey man, you need some custom made fishing rods. HANDLES.jpg

Or if you want something really fancy......inlaid rubies in ivory trimmed in 14k gold.Hostles.jpg

Damn you guys, I havn't been deep sea fishing in 3 years and cant afford to go now, BUT damn I miss it. Oh ya and those custom rods are the nuts, nice work sir.

Our son went out last weekend off the coast of SC, they caught the most sharks of any trip he's been on in the last five years.

Joey,
Remember when I called you a few times ago & was telling you that I'm going to sell my pool table, take down the photos of all my favorite players & turn my pool room into a library?

You wisely talked me out of it.

I'm still on a forced hiatus from pool. Probably be able to start hitting balls around the time you put the fishing poles away for winter! In the mean time, I always loved boxing & guns. So I been reading some good biographies of some of my favorite fighters & going thru my old boxing magazines. I have 3 full size book cases of boxing books & magazines going back to 1971. Having fun strolling down memory lane.

What I'm trying to say is that I think it's sometimes a good thing to branch out a little in other things we really enjoy.

All of us need pauses in things for times of refreshing.

Pool is never far from me or you. We, like a great many of our AZB brethren, are pool lifers. We'll never totally quit. At least I don't forsee that ever happening. In the mean time, enjoy your family, friends & go catch some big ol' fish(es)!

I wish you all the very best that this life has to offer Joey. I'm proud beyond words to be able to call you my friend!

Joey, Joey, Joey:
Uhm, when you have taken hiatus for 7 or 8 years, give me a call. We'll play even. I might have a chance.:p

We've all been there. I haven't picked up a cue in a year, but for other reasons. I'm hoping you can get your competetive spirit back and return to enjoying the game that's so much a part of you.

Roger - wondering what Doug would say to get you out of this funk.

Fish during the day, play pool at night. Who needs sleep?

Doug would probably urge me to drink my way out of the funk.

Roger, you are a natural and don't need much practice.

The feelings are mutual Terry.

You know...Pool & fishing are alot alike...They don't call pool marks "Fish" for nuffin..lol...We just made our 1st red snapper trip in 2 years thx to BP last year & let me tell you...we limited out on the snapper with almost a 10lbs average & almost limited on the mangrose..just a few shy.

joey just cause i got lucky vs you
dont mean you have to give up.

I know this is just a ruse to open my nose a little wider so that I will gamble with you and you know what, it's open. I can't hang with you with that stinking' pool business but.....:idea2: You can bring yourself down to New Orleans and I will take you fishing in my boat. You bring your own "legal" fishing gear (artificial bait only ) and we will play some FISH. $100 per legal speckle trout. (John H, this does not apply to you) (and for those who don't know who John H is, he's not John Henderson). Winner pays for the trip.

Yeah, I'm having one of those periods of time that some of you complain about every once in a while. I have been working on my son's house doing renovation stuff that I have to learn as I go along. I'm pretty good at the demolition stuff.:D The rest I have to have my contractor buddy on speed dial most of the time. Today, I had to call him to tell me how to remove some window trim without destroying it in the process. :) Yeah, I've led a sheltered life. What can I say.

Pool has become almost a chore, ever since DocHutch started me back on the fishing. I've always loved fishing a great deal. It's been in my blood for a long, long time. We haven't really started hammering the fish just yet. Too much wind, which means dirty water, which means less bites.

I still play in the tournaments at Buffalo Billiards but even they don't hold my attention like they used to. I practice and have learned some more stuff. I even have a new shaft but I'm not liking it as much as I thought I would. I'll always come back to pool but for right now, I seem to missing a lot of pool days and it is as if it really doesn't matter. I know it probably won't be too long before I get the passion back but for right now, I am happy just to be tired and staying home.

JoeyA, just a whinin'.
One Pocket would be good for what ails ya :D:D

While I'm waiting for my boat to get out of the shop, I visited the pool room and played one of the toughest players in Louisiana getting too little weight and was stuck 5 games at $50 a game and somehow managed to get back even. He quits when we get even. He's mad as hell and I'm happy as a bee keeper collecting honey from the bees. :D

He was winning ALL DAY LONG. The only time I was even was when we started and when we ended. He controlled the game from start to finish except for the last 5 games. :D When he started pizzing about how he was tired and how I was lucky that he liked me, I told him we needed to change the spot next time and he needed to give me another half ball so that the game would be more fair. He admitted that he got tired and that was the only reason he lost. After I asked for the additional weight, he called me an a-hole. :p WTH? :D:D:D He said I was lucky that he liked me because if he didn't he would have quit me winner.

Life is good. Have a great weekend everyone. Good fishing is almost here.
