I'm the base champion!

We're very proud of you, champ! Isn't that a great feeling?
Did you let Grady know? He likes you a lot and would be very happy for you, I'm sure.
Stay in stroke buddy!

Congratulations!!

Brings back old memories...In the early 70's I was lucky enough to win the base championship 4 years in a row. Twice at Webb AFB and twice at Lackland. Still have the trophy for the 2nd Lackland win. Do they still play Straight pool for their championships??

I can't wait to be at a base that has a pool tournament/championship. Bolling has zilch - and sorry free tables (not worth playing on)

Last night, for the second year in a row, I won the Shaw AFB Championships. It may not sound like a big deal, but I don't get many chances to win tournaments so BACK OFF:D:D

I think I joined the wrong branch. Nobody plays pool in the Coast Guard. My dads pool hall used to be frequented by a lot of Air Force guys back when George AFB was open, and there were about 10 strong players from that base. I just figured that military guys liked to play, in all the branches. Not the CG, we have more professional drinkers than anything else.

Nope, I wish. 8-ball seems to be the preferred game around here.

Atta boy, easy-e!

I'm still trying to figure out the area in which I'm the champion player. Certainly not in my city, where I rank #3 or 4. Not in my zip code, where I am #2. Maybe in my block where there are only 3 homes and I know those neighbors can't play a lick!!

Easy, winning is where it's at, and you got it done. I can imagine how you feel, as I was the pool champion of the University of Pennsylvania in te late 1970's. Beating up on a bunch of Ivy league geeks may not sound like a big deal, and my dad wasn't very impressed, but it seemed like a big deal to me.

Bet you're wondering where you stack up relative to all Air Force pool players, whether you're the best. Speculation is fun.

For many years, I remember wondering whether I was the best pool player that had graduated from an Ivy League college, reckoning that I probably was. My very satysfying delusion came tumbling down in the late 1990's when I met Steve Lipsky, a Cornell graduate.

My suggestion is to think of yourself as the Air Force's best pool player until evidence to the contrary emerges.

Thanks man, I try to do just that. I have met a guy that plays around here who plays really well, but because of family restrictions he doesn't practice that much. His name is Jeremy Melber and he said he won some big juniors tournaments about ten years ago. I still like my side of it though:D

Congratulations!!!!

Wow...I didn't think they had any base championships any more. I remember way back I got to go permissive TDY to play straight pool at the Command level when Air Training Command (ATC) was alive. ATC is now AETC of course. This was in the mid 80s of course when you could win a base championship and go TDY to compete at command level.

Note: I also did the same thing playing Chess......:D :D :D :D

Congratulations Eric, I know how good it feels first hand to win one of those Recreation Room tournaments. While on active duty, 1979-2003, I played in few of them myself. At FT Lewis Recreation Center, I won a Straight Pool Championship, along with having the so called high run which if I remember correctly was a whole 25 balls:D ;)

Thanks for the post, it brought back some good memories, and my Trophies needed to be dusted anyway!!!!!! :D

Manwon, I hit a lot of balls when I was at Ft Lewis a few months back. They had the best tables I have ever seen on a military installation.

Sorry, but I'm the best player in the Air Force. I wish their was an AF level championship....they have it for bowling of all things (an official Air Force team) but not pool.

Matt <-- Jealous because Bolling AFB has no base championship.

Nice one, Easy! Always good to add a trophy to the collection. My little showcase (currently a shelf in the dining room) will be doubling in size this week when our Wednesday league side picks up the trophies. This time I get 1st place Individual as well as team winners!

Shame my game has imploded in the last week or so!:(

military pool championships...

My friend and I, (both Army) have looked into getting nationwide tournaments going for pool and billiards. However, DOD has stated that they do not want to support pool as a sport because it is so closely associated with drinking and gambling. Events can be held at installation level, but beyond that the likelihood of anything happening is very small. I would love to see it happen though...its annoying when there is an all service chess team but not pool....
