In Defense of Pro Pool Players

From what I have seen on this site since I have been here is most people who post, not all (there are a lot of really good people here), are just plain whiners and will never be happy no matter what. I can't imagine being a Pro and being criticized constantly by some rail bird who doesn't know 5% of what I would know as a Pro. Respect is earned not given, maybe if more people would show respect to quote "Pro" Pool Players they would give you more positive interaction. After constantly being given grief I would eventually just go shoot and ignore the fanatics, too. If they don't have a sponsor to represent why should they give a bunch of jerks the time of day. Seriously, give me one good reason. Look at Shane with his recent fan interaction, there are Pros that care. Is it possible Shane feels the love of his fans and that is why he is willing and happy to give back to them?

You say respect is earned and immediately follow it up with saying that pros don't need to earn it.

You want to hear why there's not so much respect given? Go ahead, ask! Better yet, start a thread and see how quickly the pages add up.

Bunch of jerks indeed. This jerk won't be giving another penny towards a pro's cause unless I'm absolutely sure that there will be a positive result.

Lol on the "5% of what they know", too. Maybe there should be some serious butt kissing going on. There are plenty of times they're wrong about what they know or simply can't explain it at all.

Who knows whether pool and pro tournament payouts would have improved over the last 50 years or not, had pro players gone through a "background check."
In 1965, my folks used to tell me to stay away from the poolroom, because you'll end up in jail for burglary or other crimes, just like those guys that hang out there. Some did end up in jail.
Imagine a "What's in the Case" segment...."Oh, that laminated $10 bill is for when I need change at the car wash."
You get good enough or lucky enough to end up the final two in a decent tournament, then your opponent whispers in your ear "What do you say to a 50/50 split of the money right now?"
When was the last time you were in a pool room and the language spoken loudly, was fitting for Mom to listen to while she played pool with her teenage son?
Image is everything. Many poolrooms have had their wake and many more are sick right now.
I know, it's about Pro pool and pros making a living. Sorry, I'm not paying for a live stream to watch Shane play Rodney, Corey, Alex, Darren or Earl again.

This was not intended to be taken literal by well respected AZ'rs. I believe if someone works their way to the Pro ranks that is a good enough reason to deserve respect and than a fan may get it back by showing it. If not than the Pro is just a jerk and we can move on. My intention was not to offend you personally or anyone else who is respected in this community. I hope you understand. In all sports there are some guys who are just jerks and others who truly love the admiration of their fans.

Why are you on a pool forum if you have no interest in the game, sport, or past time, or job, as the case may be? It is a job..or work...or profession to those who earn ...win...money.

I understand. I've dealt with some pro people before in a past job-life. It was amazing who the down to earth ones were and who you'd rather not deal with at all. Unfortunately, there have been too many cases where people have been burned by, or left generally disenchanted with, pro players.

Here's an example.. my girlfriend is big into nerdy stuff. I've gotten her tickets and such for the last few events up here. She's met a few people that really made her day. I can't imagine how upset she would feel if she'd received the same kind of treatment given by some that have been on here in the past. Think if she paid for an autograph that Shatner would pocket the money and walk?

I will give you this CJ,...You can come up with more clever "quotes", by people no one has ever heard of !..Let me guess, ole Bill Bullard was the night janitor, at your martial arts, or yoga gym class ?.....Right ??? :o

PS..Could you please stick to 'misquoting' Einstein ?..At least we've all heard of him !

CJ. Altho I don't disagree with your idea of pursuing a Dream and having no regrets.

I spent many years riding the Wall of Death. It was the most important thing in my life at the time. Now, looking back on all those years, and multiple injuries, I have to consider that I should have known there was no future in it.

My Mentor, Samantha Morgan, was probably the best Trick Rider out there. She was rewarded by passing young from years of sustained injuries.

I always tell young people that they should experience life and pursue dreams when they can. As in, don't have any regrets, or Shoulda, Woulda, Couldas. Because that can also haunt a person in later years.

But, as in many things, Pro Pool, one has to eventually realize that they have either succeeded or not re the their goals and dreams.

That is when Plan B should come into effect.

I don't know how this was turned into hating on Shane or any of the Pro Players. No is hating on their abilities.

I am sure that most of us would love to be able to play even 1/4 as well as the Pros can.

This is where it turns. People get tired of hearing what others should do in order to save Pro Pool. This by many of the Players.

In pursuing your Dream, are you the person who makes those little stepping stones across a pond and regulates your life in order to be able to advance across the pond, each small stone being the next goal in your Dream.

Or are you the person who has a Dream, when you come to a fork in the road, a tough place, you start to expect everyone else to lay down the stones for you, in order for you to advance.

A bit of a difference here. If this is the case, where do I apply to go for a ride on a Space Shuttle? I don't want to perform any of the hard work involved in getting me there.

I just want to hop on and go for a ride.

What's the chances of you admitting it to me twice? ;)

I think this thread is long overdue.

Maybe it’s time we cut them a little slack.

I think just the opposite nowadays. With the internet, and all the camera phones and the facebook and on and on, the immature actions of many are starting to change (body cams on police are proof) and the wording in the BCAPL rule book is a sign that the mind set of the next generation of players will change.

Adults that act like children are only being enabled by letting em ''have slack''.

To me, it's even more important NOW to ratchet down childish behavior and such, and have them act and DRESS ALL THE TIME, like a professional. The last generation of great players, looked sharp and into doing so gave more value to their pecking order in life. Could you imagine going to a car dealership to buy a new car and the guy hadn't shaved, was wearing torn jeans and had a ball cap on, is that good for business? If ya wanna be treated like a pro, at least LOOK like one.

Good on you.

I wonder if anyone recognizes in themselves, the things you say below?
JoeyA

And you guys wonder why the Europeans are winning the Mosconi Cup..... and the haters come here in mass when Shane comes up short .pointing out. "Over There He Can't Win", you seem happy about our players failing. You tell them they are foolish for doing what they love.....then ***** like little girls when they don't bring the "Cup" or trophy home to the U.S. of A ....I guess the support they get here...like this thread is just not appreciated enough by them. So much negative B S. well... I will support them as best I can...I'm dead money, I play in tournaments that I can no longer win....and I love to see these guys play so good....I hope they never read the shyt that people say about them on this site........you are a group of like minded negative people that have found each other. Enjoyed meeting you. Now let's dissect another one....maybe we will figure out why he plays pool and doesn't work....
