in market for a new jump cue

Hi,
i need your advice. My jump cue got broken (long story... :grin:) so I need to buy a new one. I prefer kicking at balls but while jump cues are allowed I need to have that weapon in my arsenal not to give my opponents the advantage. I have used predator air jump but as this is discontinued model I need a different cue. I have read good reviews on VX jump cue and it has very good price (75usd) + I like the look of the cue. But when I asked at Seyberts about good jump cue (jumping with pendulum stroke with the least effort being the most important for me) I was told that while VX really was good jump cue that I should look at the Pechauer jump cue, they had video of it on their site. I must say that the jumps performed in the video look really nice and effortless, on the other hand Pechauer jump cue is nearly double the price of VX (135usd). Does anybody here have the experience with both these cues? How do they compare to each other? Is Pechauer really that much better?

Hey marek

Take a look at the Jester or the Frog jump cue.


Both of them do a great job.

contact steve lomax - stevel on here - and be done with it. don't just trust me, there a more than a few on here that agree. steve doesn't have fancy advertising or videos because he doesn't need them. word of mouth sells his cues, and he gets lots of that on here. when they come up in the for sale section they are usually gone in quick fashion.
 
These kinds of things are always subjective but if you do a search here on "best jump cue" you'll see there really is a pattern with the consistent two top rated jumpers being the Lomax and Jacoby.

I have to share with you that two of my close buddies who are both A players but aren't on the cutting edge of pool technology, finally decided to buy jump cues at last March's SBE, Valley Forge.

They are, let's say, money conscious individuals. ;)

They ended up getting J&J jump cues for thirty something dollars and they are so impressed with them, they are telling everyone about it.

A few weeks ago I happened to watch them playing a few sets of 10 ball and these guys love to put each other in jail. I was truly amazed at the way they were escaping time and time again with their cheap jumpers. I mean they were making great hits, and in fact, potting plenty of balls that were completely obstructed, non-hangers.

They made me feel kinda bad like I might have overpaid for the two I have. :thumbup:

Bottom line; you have lots of options.

I can jump really well... I have had several jump cues in the past. I currently shoot with the pechauer. I absolutely love it! It amazes me how easy it is to jump with it. If its me, i buy a pechauer.... my 2 cents

I think if one was in the market for a jump cue right now it would be best to buy the package that Robin Dodson is offering with the jump cue, DVD, and tip tool. For right around 100 it's tough to beat. I haven't seen Robins video yet but I can tell you that she has probably jumped more balls in her life than anyone else on the planet. I'm not saying she's the best ball jumper in the world but from experience she has a lot of instruction to offer. I know during shows (especially SBE) she pretty much jumped balls, taught people how to jump balls, as well as promoted the frog for days on end. I'm imagining the DVD is worth it's weight in gold and it has been reviewed very well. It is not the prettiest looking jump cue there is but, I'd rather look bad making balls and good hits, than look good missing. Just my 2 cents.

I ended up ordering a Lomax, still waiting for it.

Hi,
from what I read frog jumper is rather "average" jump cue in hands of VERY skilled player Robin who can jump with broomstick so she can make those jumps look so effortless. :D Btw I like the design of frog, that would be no problem with me. :) On the other hand her dvd is on my future shopping list. :thumbup: Thanks for your input. ;)

I had opportunity to test jester. While dart style shooting was amazing with it actually pendulum stroke shooting was not that great. And as I prefer pendulum stroke jumping Jester just is not for me. Thx for the imput anyway. ;)

Another Lomax lover...will look into wanted for sale section, never been there actually :D
 
You might also consider the Stealth 3 piece jump cue. I have one and it's a good cue in my opinion.

This is because the J&J jump cues are virtually identical clones of the Bunjee Jumper. Shamelessly copied.

One year out in Vegas one of the vendors was set up next to my booth and they were selling them for $50 while I was selling Bunjees for $99.

I was getting really frustrated with people wanting to come and use the table I paid for to try those cues. So I bought all of his cues thinking that would be the end of it.

The next morning he has a fresh box with 30 more cues on display. Brutal.

I guess I got the last laugh though because the next event where he wasn't there I sold all his J&J jumpers for $75 each.

As long as the J&J cues are made like the Bunjees then they are as good as any other jump cue out there. Personally I'd still buy the Bunjee just to be safe but hey, money is money as they say.

Steve Lomax has more experience with teh Bunjee jumper than anyone else in the USA. He has taken that and made his own jump cues which he swears work better. I tried one two years ago and they are damn nice to use. I think that the main performance difference in jump cues comes down to comfort based on balance/weight.

That is because the Jester belongs in the category of "ultralights" which makes them great for close up jumps but hard to control. Any jump cue that is lighter than the cueball or very close to it will have this issue.
 
Light weight

Wow, I did not know that about the Jester.
I used a Predator Air and really like it because of the light weight.
Does anone know of any orther production model that is light weight like the Jester?
 
Just my opinion and it means little probably but I've tried a few..

I've played and owned a Lomax custom made for me, bujee, Predator Air, Sledgehammer j/p, J&J jump break and a few others..

I still like my bunjee the best.. I liked the Lomax but actually jump with the bunjee better and more consistently. I do love love love my Lomax break cue though!

IMHO for the money, the bunjee is the nuts!
 
Lomax

I am a 3 cushion player so I kick, having said that I broke down and got me 2 jump cues. I did not like them. I could jump with them but prefer to kick.

Two months ago, I got a Steve Lomax jump cue, wow. I cannot believe how easy it is to jump with this cue, it almost seems WRONG.

Call Steve a lot of Top Pro’s use his jump cue. Take Care, Barney :smile:
