Info on Stalev at DCC?

[...pic snipped...]

He breaks the balls at warp speed, as hard as anyone I have ever seen hit the ball. I wanted to get some photos of it, but missed out. He launches his whole body into the break...really amazing to watch.

He asked me if my photos were going to AZBilliards....I asked him if he read it, He replied "Every day"

This one's for you!!

I'm not sure if the readership here realizes just how POWERFUL Evgeny's break is. You have to see it in person to believe it.

Just to give you a flavor, check out Evgeny's "dialed-back" break in this U.S. Open match from several years ago:

Notice that Evgeny's completely relaxed, using just his shoulder and pectoral [chest] muscle for his breaks in this match. This break is in the upper 20s in regards to speed. Can you imagine if he really layed into it with his body, like Rick mentions? <shakes head, because I've seen it!>

Folks shouldn't forget that Stalev did well in the IPT. He is an elite talent in cue sports. It breaks my heart that a great cue artist like this is wasting his talent chasing card games. I have been a stalev fan for years. I hope he leaves the cards alone and jumps back in the grease with a cue sport.

There was discussion recently of the most powerful stroke...

I didn't comment there, but I can tell you, it doesn't belong to a pool player!

See Vahmurka's Stalev vids...blow your mind.

See Blohmdahl hi-lites...

The owner of most powerful strove is one of those 2, IMO.

And that is a really small club, too!

Stalev played Efren some one pocket at Hardtimes in LA a coupla days ago just before Efren flew back to the Phillippines.

A buddy called, saying they were playing. I went after work, but too late.

Someone said that they had played 1p, 9ball and ?? and that Stalev recorded it???

Sorry I was lagging, and missed it.

Take care

Seen him play in 2001 at q masters, during the u.s. open. He was a machine. Sick break, sick stroke and was not afraid of anyone. Was actually trying to match up with Efren then.

He rode back to the hotel with me and Tony Crosby whom I went to the open with, and we asked him why he wanted to play Efren so bad. He said Efrens the best and Busty is too easy. I'll never forget hearing those words" Busty is to easy". lmao

A little story...

My second year attending the DCC was the first time I saw Evgeny play. I just happened through the tourney room upon leaving the action room. For those of you who never had the opportunity to experience the action room at Ex West, it definitely lived up to its billing. There was something about the close quarters of it that pitted ego against ego nearly round the clock for 10 days. It was thrilling to say the least!!!!!!!!! I loved it and surely do miss those days......but, back to my story.

I didn't know who Evgeny was at the time and had never seen him play, of course. I saw Johnny Archer and Evgeny playing a match on the first table to the left as you went into the room. I jotted left to get a place to stand along with the other railbirds to watch JA play. Johnny of course was solid as usual but Evgeny, as it seemed, must have been too afraid to play safe. He made shot after shot after shot without much care in the world of where the cueball was going. And I mean shots that where hail mary's one after another...my only guess is that he shot 'em so that if he missed he would leave JA in a horrible place where only a true shot maker would fire at it. But the crazy part was he kept making them...one after another!! Caroms, billiards, banks, and amazingly thin cut shots!! The entire room, including Johnny, was on the edge of their seat with every shot and every rack. The crowd cheered with each shot and roared even louder after he cleared the table.

It was definitely a memorable highlight for me as I'm sure it was for Evgeny too. He really handled himself with class coupled with a fire in his gut when he played. It was great!!! Even Johnny clapped when Stalev ran out from what appeared to be nowhere!! I'm just happy to have been able to be a spectator on the sidelines with memories I can keep forever!!!

he is one of my favorite players aswell, I love watching him, he always seem loose and ready to play, he never show nerves, how can he do this? is it his style or what.

anyway, I saw a match of him versus charlie williams, it was in the derby city back in 2001 or 2000 and it was recorded in accu-stats, in fact, it was the first match of him in a tape, and so it was the first match for charlie williams on tape aswell, if you haven't seen this match, believe me, you are missing out, it was a beautiful played match by both, I won't say the score or who won, you gotta see it!

I have that video. That's where stalev stares at the camera and smiles almost like he was embarrassed or excited about being on camera. Good match.

I was there also. I watched him play busty one pocket at q masters. 2001. Either 05 or 06 I saw him play kiamco some 9ball at q masters also.

Stalev's playing cue looked like it had splices in the shaft. Really looked cool. Great player.

Sterling sells one with a similar look, very popular cue for them.

All I know is that he knocked out a stand out local from around here Dominic Nocera aka Dom P in both the 9ball and the 1 pocket. Stalev must be a horse.

I think he was just kidding. He stated in some interview Reyes and Bustamante are his favorite players.
