"I can't beat you" ~right after missing a shot

"great shot" ~ said right after pocketing a ball with no shape.

"run em out" ~right after missing a shot

"I have to leave right after this match" ~said before a match to lull you into submission

anyone know any other ones. I'm sure I will think of more later.

We've all had them used on us and some of us use them.

:D

"Merry Christmas" right after you miss a shot and leave your opponent a decent shot. Especially effective if the table is tough to run out for him.

Anything that starts with "Do you always". Do you always grip the cue that tight? Do you always look at the cue ball last? Do you always drop your shoulder like that? Do you always twist your wrist like that? The list is endless and the goal is to start folks thinking when they ought to be just acting!

It's not really innocent when they don't mean what they say. I think its lame actually to say something that causes a player to be distracted. I played in a poker game and there was a guy talking all sorts of nonsense to me looking for acknowledgement that he is right...while trying to lighten my wallet. I've been gullible most of my life but now I know better. I guess that's why the hard asses stay away from interacting with people unless they know for sure, you're not going to BS them.

Some guy told me he's not good at one pocket...I lost 8 games in a row. I would have played all night even if he was Efren. It tilted me so bad I quit him. Then another guy said he gets 9-7 from so and so and he sucks...couldn't beat him either. I've never beaten a pool player and they all player a few balls under me.

Shouldn't it be how to deal with unintentional sharking? Alot of players in my neck of the woods simply wear headphones, so they don't have to listen to their opponent.

"If it weren't for the speed and the line, that actually would of been a pretty nice shot."

"I never get any f***in rolls!"

There is a chapter in Robert Byrne's book on fouls. How they occur and how they work.

It's not so you can go out and start fouling on the stealth, but so you can recognize them when they are done to you!

Recognizing these statements or "moves" can diffuse them.

I like when they point to the spot on the table they wanted the cue ball to stop at with their cue tip. As if you thought they were trying to hook themselves or leave you wide open. I see the pros do this all the time and it always makes me chuckle. I know that's not really a shark move but it's still entertaining.

I used to play golf with a 60+ year old who use to say to me "That shot looked good until you swung!"

Hmmmm?!?!?!

My friends, Nunzio and Frankie are waiting for me in the car. They don't like it when I get beat playing pool either. By the way, Nunzio is a gun collector
and Frankie's dad owns a funeral home.

That one usually works not bad.

I've posted this before on other threads, so forgive the repeat. One of the guys I used to play pool with in Japan actually ended up coming to work for me as a sub-contractor and every month after doing the books (payday) it was our tradition to play one race to 9 for 10,000 yen (about $120 at the time). He was one of the really sensitive to equipment types that was always noticing table rolls, dirty balls, or anything that might be messin with his game. It was always a friendly bragging rights game, so we were always messin' with eachothers heads. I could throw him off by saying things like "does your tip sound dead to you?" or "I never noticed that you place the cue under your right eye when you shoot." or "you want the "OK" or do you wanna run 'em out" after making a ball on a good spread break. I could also get him to fold in the middle of a run out if I would say something like "get from the 6 to the 7 and it's a break and run"
This was always in good fun, and we'd shoot the same kinda stuff back and forth so it was all good between us friends. The kinda stuff I'd never pull in a 'real' game.
