Interesting cue in ebay

It is made of wood. Tricky cue, almost looks like he laminated a bunch of thin sheets of stained wood together into a sheet, then cut blocks off and turned them to get that multicolor design. The way he did the rippled handle makes for the intresting spots at the top of the ripple.

Greg Cairns has/had a cue exactly like that except it was not multi colored. It had the rippled handle area though, probably made by the same guy as I have not seen many people do that. The cue itself was nothing special and did not hit that well.

Looks like Diamond wood.
Looks a lot like the old Sceptre cues and Topper cues...dymond wood or some sort of impregnated wood. Whitewolf has a cue which is similar, but without all the colors. PM him and get his opinion. His has a very stiff hit...not bad at all, but it is certainly a matter of opinion.

Well, they are actually quality cues from what I understand just a whole lot different. I've never tried one, but I would like to out of curiosity. He's been making them out here for quite a while now. They are around $400 and up.

Here's the web-site:

Bob Renis Cues

It is Dymondwood or something similar to it - laminated dyed woods impregnated with resin, used primarily for pens, knives, and handgun grips (it is strong and especially durable in humid or wet conditions). It is pretty expensive.

He says there is no need to put a finish on his cues and they are substantially stronger than conventional cues.

I have hit with Whitewolf's Sceptre cue which is very similar (we play on the same APA team), and it hit remarkably well. The thinness of the butt takes a little getting used to, but it played very well...he plays very well with it, I know that. Dick Lanz also makes some cues from Dymondwood, I believe. Neither the Sceptre or Lanz cues are "junk", but, as Tate put it...different.

IMO its an UGLY sucker! Maybe its just because it doesn't follow "traditional" design stereotypes.

Kind of like them "ugly" Dodge pickups when they first came out in the early 90's. Now I drive one myself! :D

Plummerbutt,

My suggestion is to upgrade your Avatar to match your envious name. Please feel free to copy the attached if you so desire.

A friend of mine has the exact same thing as you described, it's the same cue but with no colors and designs. The cue is extremely heavy, something like 25 ounces and the hit is crap. Someone offered him $1000 for it and he turned it down, because he didn't know the value of it.

Yeah Gregs weighed a ton as well, depsite the fact it is missing alot of wood due to the ripples. $1000 offer is like winning the lotto and then loosing the ticket when ya dont sell.

I wouldn't want a cue made from it, but a gunstock is a different story.

Very stable and consistent.

Some sort of laminate. It looks like junk to me.

Unique is the word for it alright. My friend had a cue just like that, complete junk. I'd be embarassed to walk into a tournament with that.

Think it looks like a Candy I one saw at the State Fair....

Sounds more like the age old story of when two fools met.
