IPT Jeopardizes 2006 US Open 9-Ball

I missed answering this directly...another poster alerted me to the fact. Not that I'm trying to avoid difficult questions...simply that it's hard to keep track sometimes.

On the dead guy, what I read didn't appear conclusive. He may have endorsed opinions the KT held and had stated previous to writing the book, as KT was involved in this industry with ventures including selling Coral Calcium long prior to the release of this book. Could it have been spin...or blatently false...I dunno. As I've said before, I don't endorse everything in the book, as there is not a single natural health book that I would endorse entirely, but I'd say that many, including Natural Cures contain important ideas that are helpful. If I wrote the book, I'd state my arguments against the medical - pharmaceutical industry in different ways...and I probably wouldn't find a publisher or sell a copy...lol

As for the impact on the staus quo, I think it is obvious. The book and the infomercials slam the medical and pharmaceutical industry for being terrible at providing health. As millions have bought the book, this effects the legitimacy of the staus quo, that is the government approved professionals in the industry and whatever claims they make.

Colin

I can respect that, Colin, but the FDA has deemed his book as ridiculous. The FCC has banned him because he has repeatedly deceived the public with his products. He lied about Dr. Ley's comments. He never made them. He was deceased long before Kevin wrote Natural Cures. Kevin has failed to produce any scientific proof, nor can he site any studies that actually existed. When confronted about his claims he backpedals and looks very silly - like he did during the interview conducted by ABC where he had no explanation about the statement made by the University of Calgary. He claims his lack of medical training is what makes him an expert in this field. The only logical explanation is that Kevin never thought anyone would go out and verify his claims or his referenced "studies". He banks on the idea that he believes that there are more dumb people out there than smart people. The same thing I did when I was out on the road trying to make money (as Jake pointed out) so I know a huckster when I see one.

ZAHN: And one of the things you recommend is getting 15 colonics in 30 days. According to this same Dr. Johnson: "There is no medical reason to have even one of these procedures..."

TRUDEAU: Sure.

ZAHN: "... which typically involve purging the bowels with enemas, let alone 15 in one month."

TRUDEAU: Horror. I know.

(CROSSTALK)

ZAHN: He says -- quote -- "All that purging could lead to dehydration..."

TRUDEAU: Yes.

ZAHN: "... or electrolyte imbalances, which can disturb heart rhythms."

(CROSSTALK)

ZAHN: True or false?

TRUDEAU: It's false. That's his opinion.

ZAHN (voice-over): Ironically, Trudeau says its his lack of medical training that allows him to reveal these natural cures, cures some readers say aren't actually in the book.

If you received 15 colonics in 30 days, Colin, then everytime you sat down you would lose bowel control. That comes directly from 3 different physicians that I asked personally. I never mentioned Kevin or his book when I inquired about it. Conspiracy? I think not.

This is a trasnscript of his complete interview with Paula Zahn - it starts about half way down the page. He never directly answers any of the qestions.

Its the same thing when he started rambling about the 25% ratings increase. Ratings are not measured with percentages, I happen to have extnsive experience in this area, so when I saw that, I challenged it and you in turn challenged my experience and knowledge. Ratings are based on points. These ratings are used to sell advertising. KT is purchasing air time to show the IPT like its an infomercial. Ratings only factor in if he is planning on selling this to another network besides FOX, which would dispute his earlier claims of a possible long term deal. Even if this is the case, he would have presented the ratings points as evidence of success, not % increase because it is misleading data (what are we comparing the % increase to and why?)

What happens when pool is tossed aside just like he tossed aside his Mega-Memory stuff and his cancer pills or his claims of the medicinal value of crocodile protein peptide? If this is a scam on the players, he'll just go off an reinvent himself and prey upon something or somebody else. He's earned that reputation. I'm just pointing it out. If this fails, our association with him will have extensive consequences. You may not want to look at that, but it is true.

Gabber, I addressed the other query you directed toward me.

On the second part, I prefer to keep my comments to what I have already said in these threads, and let the IPT make their reasonings themselves.

I have recognized that these clashes reduce the incentive for some of the IPT players, but that they're unlikely to switch from the IPT.

That many business professionals would advise upon blocking potential competitors.

At this stage, I still believe strongly that the IPT is the best way for the long term growth of the game, and don't see any point in picking out faults at every opportunity. Neither will I attemt to disingenously make excuses for anything I have have doubts about.

Remember there are a lot of people here with varying degrees of optimism and approval about the IPT. We ought to resist the temptation to lump all into a 100% pro or 100% anti camp and hence assume that all opinions are shared among these camps.

Hope that makes some sense.
Colin

I,m not anti or pro. I couldnt care less what happens with the IPT. If it works, great. I loved the demo for the tv and I actually thiunk it might work.
If the pros can make some decent money , fantastic.
A real tour with real money can only be good for the game. I,ve said this many times but everytime I make a comment that seems critical of the IPT I get hammered for being negative. It seems that no dissent is allowed!

But this is not the issue.
What we have here is a one party saying one thing and the other party saying another!
Who do we believe?
Should we just ignore this anomally?
Is it taboo to talk about it?

If a person proposes a theory based on a study that never existed, then that theory is a product of someones imagination. ie BULL$##T

Gabber,
I don't recall hammering you (though I have disagreed). That is not my intent.

Is it taboo?...Ciriticisms are not taboo in my book. Are they constructive...sometimes they are and sometimes they are not. Jesus said that we should take the log out of our own eye before removing the splinters from another. While the temptation to find faults in others is irresistable, it seems wise to refrain moreso than leap forth.

As for the study that never existed, I am immediately suspicious of 20/20 and many other writers who have vested interests, in that there is possibly more to this story. There is without doubt many good studies that would support arguments for various natural cures over current medical recommendations for treatment. If KT got his facts wrong on one, it is due to slopiness, but it doesn't discredit his premise.

What's the old saying?...don't look a gift horse in the mouth...and don't believe everything you read or watch on TV:D

I dunno, I lost my train of thought for some reason:o

btw: The one above is Zhou Meng Meng, 18y.o. World Junior Champ currently ranked 12 in the world by WPA. The lower girl I believe is a Beijing player, who I haven't met.

Certainly there is some talent that will spring out of Mainland China in coming years.

Blackjack,
If I could, I would abolish the FDA and FCC in a heartbeat. Search FDA and FCC at mises.org if you want to hear reasons why. I certainly don't take their opinions as authoritative, but almost invariably dubious.

Funny you picked colon irrigations as the topic of question, since I once was a dedicated enthusiast of the works of Norman Walker, a man who continued writing on natural health after he turned 100. He lived to 107 I believe. A man who had regular colonics since 30 years of age (often with the regularity you mocked) and wrote in detail about the subject.

I've had quite a few myself.

And you quote Paula Zhan as your expert interigator? Puhleasse.

Please find yourself better sources than government agencies and sensationalist media icons to make your arguments.

I don't think KT is a leading authority on a wide range of natural cures on a range of various specialities. I think he is a pretty good information collector and an outstanding disseminator. If he encourages people to look deeper ad to doubt authority, then that's a good thing as I can see.

No sir. Feminazis are typically over 25.
And stage 2 is for the criminalization of any sign of manliness at all. Be afraid....very afraid:(

And George Burns lived to be 100 smoking 5 cigars every day of his life. You can find extreme examples of both sides.

Colin, the only problem I have with KT & his Natural Cures is that he feels that he is the sole owner of this idea. He is far from it. And anything to an extreme can be damaging. Where do I get my expertise? I owned a GNC store for 8 years, went to seminars, read books, magazines, talked to people that actually used natural cures that worked. BTW, Coral Calcium is a very cheap form of calcium & was found out to have many faults after it was introduced into the market.
