IPT player list.....who are these players????

8-ball bernie said:
hello, this is bernie friend ipt player as far as being called a good B rated player, maybe so, however, i could rise to an A+ player very easily, and that has been proven. many B players are just that, B players now and forever, no matter, i however, can rise to break and run out into the A+ status, i've proven this to myself and others, now with that all said, oh and by the way, i made my money by playing on bar tables in tournaments, however i excell on regulation sized tables, so don't let the bar table write up fool you, but here is my point, i am not in the same catogory as mika immonen and nick van den berg, two of the greatest players on the ipt in my opinion. now, how did the ipt choose it's first 150 players? enthusiasum, they wanted players that were DIEING to prove their skills, not players that were on the fence. as kevin said at the last meeting in orlando, "hey, if your not keen on this tour, and you feel you don't really want to try to be on it so much, then DON'T!!! i don't want you anyway! i only want players that are pro 8-ball pro money, and pro ipt! makes sense right, so that was the first criteria, the second was what you had to write in, were you coherant, or bla-zay?, then the deadline, how early were you to write in, and also they checked and verified your "story" and if it wasn't true, you weren't in. now the biggest irony of all this is this~~~~~ alex paguliyan perhaps the strongest player right now, along with van den berg, thought that the ipt was invatational, and he waited for THEM to send him an invite, to his suprise, he found out, you had to submit, who you are and what you've won!!! well, he's in the ipt now, and rightly so!! i feel blessed and fortunate that i'm in and i would like to think that my game can stand up to a lot of the other players, i believe it can. oh yeah, let me tell you breifly about the other players, that you might not have heard of, they are SENSATIONAL!!! tammi jones who i had the misfortune of playing was sensational, spot on!!! vince goh was strong and in stroke, phil harrison was the fastest and most accurate player i ever saw, he left me shaking!!!, everyone one of the 150 ipt players that i had the privlage to play with or see shoot, were, fantastic, there will be PLENTY of upsets, and by mid 2007 all the names you never heard of will be the big guns, mark my words, the 150 list is ULTRA-STRONG. as far as my playing, i will hold my own and will play as hard as i can, to stay for the 2007 season, if not, i was privlledged to have had the chance of my lifetime. i hope that everyone here supports the ipt, and let's all watch it unfold before us in 2006.

Bernie,

Please don't take this the wrong way but you really need to hit the Enter button every once in a while. It is very difficult to read your posts.

Watch out for Shane...he plays STRONG!

Considering that Jason won the World Bank Pool Championship two years ago, and got his second this year (along with the all-around), it's safe to say that mucho people have heard of him.

Shane Van Boening just won the Windy City 8-ball tournament, and has been a top young gun for the past several years. So, it's safe to say that many people have heard of him.

Some of us will recognize Brian Groce from the Derby City Classic, but he is one of the under-the-radar players.

Fred

Fred...I just spoke with Shane Saturday night in Sioux Falls, SD, at his poolroom, Breaktime Billiards. Not only did he win the Windy City tournament, but he also beat Marco Marquez out of a couple LARGE. BTW, Shane has won the VNEA masters division singles tournament, in Vegas, for the past 3 years running...and he's only 22! In Atlanta, a couple of weeks ago, he ran out the set, after being down 5-9 (in a race to 10) to win his spot in the IPT. Shane will be playing in Valley Forge, and also in Reno, just before that. His game is super strong, and I look for him to finish high in both of these events, and then to kick some ass in the IPT this summer. :D With his ability to turn off his hearing aids (making him totally deaf), he has a distinct advantage over a lot of other pros.

Czetli, Aaron - awesome player, friends with Corey
Bernie Friend, - Great bar table player from NY
Jones, Sammy - Come on, Gerorge, you're kidding, right? Top shelf NE player, he's married to Loree Jon. He deserves to be there. They used to call him "Jumping Sammy Jones" or something like that. He was a pro at one time.

I'm not saying he doesn't belong there David I'm just looking to be enlightened as to some of these players credentials, that's all.

Jones, Tammy - Awesome player. Wish she'd play more! Tammy has consistently won every Master's women's singles division in the BCA, and made more $ on the regional and league tours than most on the WPBA. I remember playing her in the WPBA.
Keller, Ryan - Got me there. Ryan is a local player from our area and we are all scratching our heads on that one too. He is an APA 6 I believe. He is also in my BCA league and I played him. Played fair, but I beat him. He broke and ran down to the 8 and missed, and I kept safing him until I got BIH. I would say he is a B player. I asked him what on earth he put on his ap, because his only claim to fame is that he QUALIFIED to go to some Amateur National event. Of course, he is very excited as we all are.
Murphy, Austin - Awesome player. Great future, great stroke. Good for TV, which is probably why a lot of us are in there, lol.
Raney, Jim - Got me there.
Roberts, James - Got me there.
Schwartz, Larry - One of the best 8 ball players alive. Great guy, very knowledgable.
Zimmerman, Michael - I only know of Mike from what I have read here. Sounds to me as if he is a superb player.

Mike is my husband and one of the area's most colorful and talented players. Has beaten everyone of note up and down the west coast and CN, except Ernesto (only played one time and lost). He 9-zipped Dan Louie once. Dan, I believe, may try to qualify for the IPT at Hard Times.

Here is part of Mike's bio:

Mike's pool career started in the Bay area at the age of 14, and at age 16 he went on the road with Cole Dickson and later, Dave Piona. A veteran of the sport, he has won or placed in every major tournament in the NW, which includes British Columbia and Alberta, Canada, WA, OR, MT, and ID. He has also beaten every major player on the west coast, from Canada to S. CA - except one. Mike quit the sport twice for years at a time, due to the inability to make any 'real' money and the grueling road life of a gambler. The bug stayed with Michael though, and altogether, he has 30 years into the game. He recently won the Western Canadian/WA State 8-ball title amongst other greats like John Horsfall, Mike Vidas, Paul Potier, Stan Tournageau, Brady Gollan, Dan Louie and Rich Geiler.

Mike's natural shooting ability, intricate safety play, banks, knowledge, and amazing power stroke shots invite comparison to many of the greatest in the game. Studying 3-cushion billiards and playing a lot of one-pocket has given him cueball control that has cultivated fans from all over. Indeed, in an artistic pool qualifier for the national championships, he finished with more points on the first day, than the 2nd place finisher from CA ended up with in 2 days! In another 9-ball tournament, against Glen Atwell, Mike was down 8-1, and Mike ran the set out to win the tournament. Mike also took 4th in Reno one year, beating Kim Davenport when he was Player of the Year. He lost hill-hill to Oliver Ortman.

Just ask Santos, Chamat, Horsfall, Potier, Pagulayan, Vidas, Varner, Schmidt, Hemmah, Hoa, Kang, etc., they have all played him or watched him play. Santos says that Mike's game is the only one in the NW he fears/respects.

To quote Unknownpro from another thread:

I understand your point, however this thing has to start some how with some general rules to begin with. I have spoken to some of the players selected for the IPT who are not pros. and in each case I felt they were a great choice because of their ambitions, presentation of good character and they even love pool.

I do not think this is a tour that is going to be driven by who is the best in the beginning. That will happen over the years. I do like the idea that many of the pros that took the initiative to inquire and to complete the form early were many of the ones selected. This alone sets the stage for gathering some of the more responsible and ambitious players who go through life understanding that no one owes them anything, they must earn it each and every day.

Sal is Lou's brother,he used to sing out in Vegas and plays pretty good too

Maybe you ought to go look at the IPT website. Since Lou was born in 1938, and the picture of Sal seems like he was born nearer to 1968, there is a 30 year difference there, and if they are brothers, I sure feel sorry for their mother!

The list of people in the IPT has been receiving scrutiny since the day the list was announced. All of the the questionable picks will sort themselves out in time. As has been stated many times before, in two to three years time, the IPT membership roster will weed itself out of the weakest links. Many of the names listed in this thread will in all likelihood get the boot in year one.

Sounds to me like Mike's got a great resume, this is the kind of player we never hear about on a national or world level due to the lack of $$$$$ in pool. He sounds like a world beater who was smart enough to not try to make a living playing(since that has been near impossible). This is the kind of info I'm looking for and I'll look forward to seeing him play. Great post Linda.

IMO, the worst glaring omission was Danny Harriman. His application was complete, yet he was not selected.

It seems that the 150 were selected based on history, playing ability, personality, marketability, and whether they were wanted or not. I don't think they wanted Danny Harriman. Someone like Austin Murphy is a fine young rising star but he did not make it based solely on his playing ability but rather on his age 12, his personality and his marketability. Same with a few that post here, like Colin, Rackemsucker and Bernie who were not picked based solely on playing ability but some of the other factors. I know I play better than quite a few on the IPT list but I am not close to the top 150 in the world, however, if I had applied I may have gotten picked because of something in my application. If I had applied and gotten picked I think I would have been embarassed about it and probably would have withdrawn my name. If I didn't withdraw it then everytime I played at a tournament like HardTimes I would have to deal with the fact that there were a dozen or more players more deserving based on talent in the tournament and that would be tough for me to deal with.

Some of the players selected will disappear after 1 tournament I think and others will be gone after a year. Someone like Austin who will be gone after a year could well be back in a few years because the experience should benefit him and he is a rising talent. Maybe this will be true for others also.

darren appleton is gonna kick professional ass, for those of you unaware of his talents, look out!!!

sal butera is lou's son, not his wife, not his landlord, not his long lost cousin, not his brother, sal butera is lou's son.

linda carter is a good player who has tons of brains and quick wit, and is awfully nice. lee chenman, is another british threat, beware!!

colin colenso, has been around and is familiar with all cuesports, his potting ability is straight on.

sarah ellerby is cute and has a face for television, beside that, she has a snooker backround, thus her potting skills are keen.

allison fisher is some chick who won two 9-ball tournaments (i think) KIDDING!!!!!!!!!

Bernie Friend is a shotmakers shotmaker, hailing from new york, he's been around, he is known for his 8-ball game, and creative strategy, although an underdog, he may rise to the occasion and suprise even himself.

kiat tuan goh, better known as vince van goh, is a strong player who has tons of fight in him, and should win out in the endurance test of the 12 hour round robin.

mika gulyassy makes the sledgehammer break cues, who's tips made of phenlonic have been banned by the ipt, i never saw him shoot, but if he's on this list, i believe he is superb.

quinten Hann by insider reports, said he is the #1 player on the ipt and everyone should be freightned out of their wits, if they have to play him!!

philip harrison, i saw with my own eyes, ladies and gentlmen, this is gonna be your favorite pool player to witness, he plays a little faster than luc salvas, yet, phil never ever misses!!!!!!! i know that sounds daft, cheeky, crazy absurd, trust me on this one, phil is like a tornado, faster than anyone without missing!!!!

mick hill is one of the greatest players in all of england, a real terror!

patrick holtz is the #1 player in all of scotland.

tammy jones is one of the strongest women players i ever witnessed!

sammy jones is loree jon jone's husband and the reason why they call him jumpin sammy is because he invented the jump cue and is considered to be the greatest jumper in the world!

mary kenniston is the founder of the woman's pro tour the wpba, i think.

steve lipsky who backed out, is one of the greatest straight pool players in new york.

mori manabu is one of the most serious players in the world, who can read a rack like someone reads a blueprint!

robert Mckenna another british threat!

austin murphy is a fantastic player with perfect fundementals, although he is only 12 his game has zero faults!!!!! by the time he is 17 he will be the greatest player in the united states.

ike runnels is one of the greatest stratigic 8-ball players.

miyuki sakai of japan has a solid game.

brian saleh, has insight, and brains, you cannot outsmart him!

stefan santl has played with the german crowd, such as bustamante, soquet and oliver ortmann, and i'm glad to say, he's held his own, a fantastic german player ready to break out!

larry schwartz is a rare breed, that thinks 8-balls ahead, and although doesn't complete his original plan usually, he takes his time, a typical opening shot for larry is in the area of 4 mins.!!!!!

nick van den berg, most of you know, in my opinion he is the greatest pool player alive. his brain, execution and fight, have no equal, in my opinion he will be very, very tough to beat.

johl younger is the most under rated player on earth, although never winning anything on american soil, his game is so flawless, and spotless, he is due in the biggest way to win HUGE!! p.s. did he back out? i do not recall seeing him at the meeting., anyone?

well, there you have it, these are the player i saw/played/watched, they ALL were tremendous, and like i said, many of these players will KILL the so called names that we all now know, stay tuned!!!!!

Of all the injustices surrounding the process, the most glaring is that the 2004 World Champion and 2005 US Open champion, Alex Pagiul;ayan, had to play in the qualifiers to get on to the roster. Yes, I know he didn't file on time, but how silly would this tour be without him? Really, now. In this case, justice was only barely served.

Personally, I see no reason to single out the possibly underqualified here, so I'll decline to comment on that point.

Tammie Jones

cuechick said:
Well, another thing about the selection process which I think makes for such a mixed list of players, is that they did not wait for ALL the applications to come in before making their selections. I know of at least one player that knew he'd made at least a month before the deadline.
I think had they waited for all applicants it might have been different. I also think manypool players are not internet savvy and really just missed the boat on the whole thing till it was too late. As someone else mentioned this was probably the case with Cliff.
I do really like the fact they took more into account than just the name on the application when they made thier choices.

And from what I have heard about Tammy Jones, she should be feared, I believe she finished very high in big tournament in Memhis just a few months ago...I think she owns an APA league but I am not sure about that?

I have seen Tammie run 6 consecutive racks of 8 ball in Vegas,{sorry Tammie, don't mean to knock you}, and stand up in pressure situations to make shots that most people will fall apart on. She has been down the road with Buddy Hall and several other top players. When I first met her, she was traveling the Mcdermott Tour circuit and played top notch pool on the bar tables and 9 footers. She is an under-dog in this field when comparing names, but she can do some damage to a lot of ego's out there.
Then there's Brian Groce. Brian has been the top money player in Indiana for several years. He don't even like pool. Til now that is. He made the comment a while back,That he had been practicing every day for a month before the qualifier. I've known Brian since he was 15, and never heard of him practicing for more than a day or 2 for a tournament. He has the skills, and due to his getting his card to play the IPT, the desire to play. It won't surprise me a bit to see Brian finish in the top 25 players on the tour. His 8 ball game is phenominal when he wants to play.

If this had any bearing whatsoever as to whether someone got in or not, I can assure you that you wouldn't have a tour card right now. Your spelling is so bad that you can't even spell Trudeau. You worship him like he's a Roman God and you can't even spell his name correctly, let alone half of the other words you type.

Lack of spelling aside, your posts ramble with no punctuation and no breaks. If you type more than 5 lines, your post is illegible. It's hard enough trying to figure out what word you're trying to spell without having to keep track of what line, in the middle of 100 lines that you're on.

The only time I ever say anything to someone about their spelling is if they're self righteous and rude. You are both and then some. You've blatantly wished ill will upon the people that have dedicated their lives to promoting pool, simply because they're not millionaires.

I support the IPT and I sincerely hope that it is a success. That being said, I see no reason to go around bad mouthing the other promoters in the pool world while tripping over my own feet trying to stick my nose up KT's rear-end like you & Jake are doing. Both of you are making FOOLS of yourselves wishing other promoters ill will while worshipping KT. It's disgusting.

Bernie,

Just so you know, Sarah Ellerby isn't that hot of a Snooker player from what I understand. But she does hold more British and European 8-ball titles than you can shake a stick at. What game is this you folks are playing on the IPT?:D

Terry

Bernie,
Sorry , I don't think your pool playing credentials add up to killing any so called names. When you gambled with any of the regulars at SLATE ( formerly BBC), you always found the short end of the stick. I myself would be very unhappy if I paid to watch one of these IPT tourneys and wound up watching you inevitably get tortured by all comers.
All of the other players listed at one time or another must have been the big stick at their poolrooms. You cannot truthfully say that you are or ever were the big stick at Slate or any pool hall in the tri state area. Your qualifications are sorely missing. It is absurd. But alas, you will be exposed. When the heat is on the dog usually comes out to play!
IMO of course

I think it just happend..... It seems there used to be a person that posted here under the name "The Silencer" and they were banned. I don't recall the name or the person but the person that told me about this said that The Silencer was just about as bad as FL....seems they were very offensive to many people. I was also told that person was Bernie. Is this true Bernie? Have you been banned for being rude & offensive on here before under the screen name The Silencer?
