Is Galveston Dead?

Another thread brought up the question of Galveston payouts. In the thread it was noted that Taylor Road Productions will not do the event again. Can other posters confirm this? Does anyone know who this new entity is that may take over? If there is a next year it needs to be smaller and located in Houston.

I don't know if they will have the tournament next year or not. But, I don't think they need to change locations. I think everything was fine except the timing and the way they paid the money out. I think 10,000 first place would have brought just as many players as 40,000. I think it would bring more players by distributing the money down the ladder further. But the timing, 3 months after vegas. No one but road players have any vacation time left to go to a 10 day tournament. I think the tournament should be shortened a few days also. Also the price of vendor booth space for a 10x10 booth was a little rediculous. But I supose your right as far as fan participation goes. Maybe a big city would be better. Butterflycues

someone should do that in tulsa at the big convention center, with as big as pool is in the midwest ,and the fact that its centrally located it could be a winner winner chicken dinner.

Cut out all the amature events, to ultimately cut out that 10 day span. Pro, only. But I understand that also cuts out some $$$$$$$$$$$.

The amatuers are the ones who spend the money. If you cut all the amature events youll lose the vendors too. the pros arent buying cues or instuctional dvd's

I hope it aint dead. Ill be back next year for sure. It was awesome this year.

I recall the Galviston Event was BILLED AS THE MILLION DOLLAR EVENT, honestly do you think the Event came off as ADVERTISED?

They really need to shoot for a 7 day event.....Saturday to Saturday....you gotta set dates, times, rules, expectations, guaranteed price money.....all that needs to be set 6 months in advance with zero changes.....people need that type of lead time to make travel plans and set expectations....

Galveston had it's issues because of arrogance....you had numerous posters here with extensive tournament experience offering tips, willing to help with ideas and implementation.....you had hundreds of posters that would have been avid mouthpieces for this event.....the directors didn't show up for the chat, didn't answer the questions, and didn't want the help.....

The one quote I heard more than once - "If first place pays $25,000, and only 1 guys shows up, he's gonna walk home with $25,000".....and we all know how that went.....this all pisses me off so much because this could have been big.....and so many of us wanted to go.....and so few of us did because many questions weren't answered until the last minute....and when they were, promises weren't kept anyway.....

It would be nice for someone to step up and do things right, keeping the event in Galveston, but if they plan to roll it out by August, they need to get to work now and have everything set by February....

Something like the Galveston event could work extremely well if they were to put it on in Vegas in between the BCA and VNEA nationals.

ALOT of players stay in Vegas or in the area during that time span, and alot more would come early to the VNEA or stay late after the BCA in order to take part in a large open tournament like this when they are all practiced up for Vegas anyhow.

During this time from what I have seen there are alot of dead convention facilities in Vegas, Mandalay Bay tends to be dead in both the casino AND the convention area, so a place like that might be interested in dropping some decent room rates and cheap convention space just to get 1000 or so pool players into there resort during that time.

I do think the number of events has to be cut back though, there were flat out too many games in the Galveston format. In order to mix it up from the DCC perhaps they could do Straight Pool, 8-ball, and 10-ball. Then you have the new event in Vegas picking up the "other" 3 huge games in pool with a overall champion and the like, just like the DCC.

I enjoyed it, but I think they over extended themselves for a first run out of the gate.
They said they had the bugs ironed out and would only get better next year.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see when I go back next year.
If there is a next year....

Maybe it's a Texas thing!:grin::wink:

I hope not, I was hoping all the kinks would be worked out and they would have a great event next year. Why do people have to think so big the first year.

It's pretty telling that there is no word coming from the Taylor Road group about next year. Maybe they are still licking their wounds from this year. It's not easy to take a bath and then come back for more.

Jay, i wouldn't say a non-response is a given it wont happen, look at all the valid questions asked before the 1st went off that didn't even get a sniff of an answer or response, they seem to have a track record of this no response action. By the way, can i get a response on when your 2nd book is coming since i'm busting balls here......HA!!

I agree, they don't even have jobs. Let alone money to spend.
