he was banned, right.

i miss icon too. he left his mark in many ways. doesn't reply to my emails, even. he must be collecting porsches or lamborghinis now.

You can join the Jimbo Army. It's free. I'm PM'd you the enlistment information.

And, Who is/was he?

I've heard that name mentioned many times here.

I'd like to know briefly who he was (or is). I have also seen things in signatures like "Free Jimbo",
etc., and I am just trying to understand their meaning and context. Thanks.

Jimbo was a very good guy!!!!! He can best described as the Archy Bunker of AZ billiards, he was not in any way produce or grouchy against any single group of people. As much as he could be on any given day toward anyone, he never had favorites, and his sense of humor was dry, and totally unique.

But, he would also help anyone who had a legitimate question, and in most cases he also would stick for the under dog!!!

Beyond that go back and read his posts, I am certain you will get a chuckle!!!!!

It's actually kinda difficult to pin down an accurate description of JimBo....to know him is to experience him is perhaps the best that I can offer. He's definitely NOT a 'gray area' kinda guy....you either love him or hate him.....or both!! Lol. Some might say that he is an 'equal opportunity offender'. ;)

Either way, he is wicked smart.....can't spell a lick  ...and seems to know some pretty heady individuals within the pool world. Oh, and can be funnier than $hit! :D ......and when he gets a tiger by the tail, he ain't lettin' go until he is done swingin' it. Lol.

I think Jimbo is a smart person and very honest about his opinion. Most of Jimbo's post that i read made sense to me..

JimBo is a big-burly guy from parts unknown (actually, parts known to me and many others but who am I to disclose someone's private info).

He was a long-time AZ poster with a LOT of cue knowledge and a severe love for the game and the cues with which it is played. A lover of purpleheart and skulls, he has garnered quite a collection of beautiful cues with those two themes.

Jim always posted in purple and his avatar was always a large, looming skull with a devilish grin. He had a biting tongue and a very sarcastic wit that to many like myself was well received and incredibly funny!!! Others disapproved of it and reported him to the mods practically every time he commented on anything.

One of Jim's primary platforms was the bitter hatred of cue design theft. Jim absolutely despises a lack of originality in design and finds the copying of another's work to be morally reprehensible to say the least. He often commented on it and, as a result, often butted heads with many individuals here in AZ land. But hey! Haven't we all???

Eventually, Jim pushed the mods a weee bit too far by calling someone (make sure the kids are out of the room for this) an 'idiot'. Perish the thought!!!! Thus, he was promptly shown the door.

He found a new home over on the www.insidepoolmag.com forums where he as created the JimBo forum, where people can talk pool, or just about anything else, with Jim and a slew of others (many of whom post here as well).

'The JimBo Army', referred to by someone else, is a group of individuals who are largely AZ members that have joined the ranks and crossed over to IP as well to support their fallen comrade. Myself, Icon of Sin, Bogey5431, Murray Tucker, Dave Barrenbrugge, Brooklyn Jay, Pool Monkey, buddha162, Eric., ridewiththewind, SactownTom, and many, many more are now posting on IP with Jim and love having his presence felt yet again.

** And as if that wasn't enough, the more than man but just ever-so-slightly less than a god 1pRoscoe is there too!!!! Yeah!!!!

Hope you have a better understanding as to who JimBo is. Feel free to come join us.

Wow

Wow, those were some pretty in-depth explanations and descriptions. You folks already seem to
have maximum rep, so I guess just a "Thanks" is the best I can do. Thanks.

Jimbo was also a LONG time contributor and supporter of usenet group RSB (now google groups rec.sport.billiards) as well as the ASP (alt.sport.pool) community. ASP started in 1993, and RSB in 1994. In the mid-late 90's the online community was growing, and ASP and RSB drew a great group of like-minded guys that communicated and contributed online for many years. In fact, Jimbo and Fred were forum members way back in the late 90s - Bob Jewett was online back in 1994. Doh! Gooo BOB!

Jimbo was a huge force on the RSB front when I joined. In fact, he organized a huge get together with a tourney, raffle, food etc back in 2003. Heck, we even had a cake for Sherm ;)

But, as RSB is not moderated, around 2005 or so, FL (among others) started to degenerate the discussions on RSB, and the people there slowly grew tired of the loss of civility. Many of the posters there turned to AZ as another outlet - including Jimbo. You can still see many of the RSB names here, including Fred, JAM, Lou, Patrick, Smorgy, both Bob J's, Dan, ClassicCues, Deno, Willee, Mike P, Alex, the Hamster, - and the list goes on and on...

The reason that people were/are upset, is that someone with almost a decade of contribution to the online pool world could be banned from a moderated site for voicing their opinions, albeit quite sternly. Sometimes people did not see eye to eye, and Jimbo was no exception.

The truth is, Jimbo's knowledge and passion for the game we all love are equaled only by his conviction for what is right.

It was a sad day when Jimbo was banned. Not sad for Jimbo, as Jimbo and his army are still around. Rather, it was sad that this community lost a valuable contributing member.

To be fair....I believe Jimbo was only banned for 1 month. That has long passed. Its his choice not to come back.

Jimbo is still listed as a member but for some reason all of his posts have been deleted.

Kevin-

Hambone is correct. Though not technically banned, every one of JimBo's posts is deleted as soon as he posts it. So, in essence, he is banned.
