Hi,

I don't really know much about SVB other than what i have heard from people in the pool community . I have never seen him play, but i hear that he could very well be the best player in the world right now(not just Americain). Is there any truth to that? Is it all hype ? I have a hard time believing that a guy as young as he is can be spoken in the same breath as Archer/Strickland/Reyes etc . Maybe i'm just not informed(probably) :o

who here can make an objective, unbiased, observation of his game and can possibly share some SVB war stories if at all possible .

Thanks

His reputation is no joke. I went to Valley Forge and saw him in the finals he was down in the set and was calm and collected the whole time. It paid off big and he came back from a decent deficit to win the set. This kis is the real deal.

I just scrolled down the message board and saw that mosoniac started an SVB thread a few minutes before I did . This is odd, but great i get to see him play .

He is up there with all those you mentioned in most aspects. His kicking is a LITTLE off but that's pretty much his only downfall. It's similar to saying Reyes' break is a little off. It's his worst skill but it's still world class.

he definitely is that good. silky smooth stroke, great understanding of the game, and he spears balls in 100 mph as good as i have ever seen. he should go down as a great.

And he is learning more all the time. His game improves with each month. When he is not playing in a tounament, it is not uncommon for him to be practicing 8-10 hours a day.

his break is really amazing and its what seems to be separating him from the pack of pros, especially at 10ball. The TAR match of him and Corey is a good example of how effective his break is. Corey was playing 10ball whereas SVB was playing 7 and 8 ball. He had a double digit package in that match I believe plus a big group of smaller packs he ran.

He ran 10 or more racks in a row?

I saw Shane at the DCC & again at the Young Guns Challenge. At the DCC, he was far less impressive - I only watched the one match of him playing Cliff 8 ball. He was off that day & rattled a few balls. At the Young Guns Challenge, when I watched him play - it was effortless. He acts like a kid in a candy store, excited to be at the table making balls. When his opponent shoots he stands there like he is ready to run a race, not wanting to wait for his turn. He analyzes the table very fast & what I have noticed lately about a lot of good players - plays excellent shape when making balls in the side pockets.

Yeah...Shane is just a flash in the pan! He also has NO gamble! I can't understand how he can beat all these world champions...again and again. It MUST be luck (kinda like Efren is "lucky"). I doubt that he'll win ANY more tournaments! :D :D On the other hand...Shane will likely be THE player to beat for the next decade or more!...and THAT'S a fact! :D

Is it just on my computer or do others have trouble with propoolvideos freezing? Whenever I try to watch a match it freezes every 15-20 seconds. Annoys the hell out of me.

I think there must be alot of people teying to view those videos. I had the same problem...just slow to load up...slower than they are actually playing.

To answer Cannonball55's question...yes he is that good - no hipe. I watched him all last week and his stroke...his entire game is smooth as glass. The boy can shoot and he's only going to get better in the next few years.

Watchez...shane had a 5 or 6 pack but my buddy reminded me that SVB put 14 consecutive games on Corey but that was strung racks it was just a long run of wins. sorry...

I think Scooter said it best ...

In an interview with TAR, Scooter was asked "What is it like playing Shane?"

His response was classic:
"Have you ever racked before; that's what it is like playing Shane."

Scooter also went on to say that Shane spears in balls only a handful of people would even try to make.

If you haven't seen Shane play in the last 2 years, then you must not watch pool.

A few years ago, when Shane was playing leagues here, I was matched up on him the last round. My teammate who was also left to play, said "We only need 6 balls". I said "No, YOU need 6 balls, I am playing Shane, and he is breaking."

Sure enough, I racked, he ran out.

Yeah, during high traffic times generally (or if you have a very slow internet connection) it can download slower than it plays. I get around this by pausing the video and doing something else for a few minutes. Generally about 2 games of freecell does the trick. This way it can build up more of a buffer so you don't have to wait for it to load every few secs just to get a few secs of playback.

You will see a grey line indicating how much of it has been downloaded already and the black line on top of that indicating where you are in veiwing.
