Is there any thread here that doesn't get debated heatedly ?

no kidding

what is harder golf or pool

how to chalk your cue with pictures to show your expertise

who makes the best cue

is it the cue or the player

hard or soft tip, which is better

... all real deep issues :) also, lots of room to argue about a meaningless point

I like the forum as a way of learning many things about playing pool, from the people who play to the latest equipment to try. I found the argumentativeness quite frustrating at first. In my first year or so I let myself get sucked into a few arguments and then sat and thought about it for awhile. I know why I am here and what I am looking for. I also feel some responsibility to contribute when and where I can. But I have learned over time to say what I have to say and then leave it alone. I have believed for many years that the truth speaks for itself and all the acrimonious debate solves nothing.

When the silly arguments begin, I move on. When the same stupid SOB makes another of his comments, I usually drop out and move on. Yeah, I can be as opinionated as the next guy. I just don’t have to tell everyone.

I guess people are here for different reasons, some I listen to, most I ignore. From what I have seen, and much that goes unsaid by others, I think that I am not alone. AZB is a great place to be. You just have to put up with some trash, like most other places in life -- at least that is what I think. :grin-square:

Nothing like non physical confrontational, bloodless, bullet less, safe, abrasive, abusive "conversation". haha

I think you're wrong. :-)
M: (Knock)
A: Come in.
M: Ah, Is this the right room for an argument?
A: I told you once.
M: No you haven't.
A: Yes I have.
M: When?
A: Just now.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: You didn't
A: I did!
M: You didn't!
A: I'm telling you I did!
M: You did not!!
A: Oh, I'm sorry, just one moment. Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?
M: Oh, just the five minutes.
A: Ah, thank you. Anyway, I did.
M: You most certainly did not.
A: Look, let's get this thing clear; I quite definitely told you.
M: No you did not.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: You didn't.
A: Did.
M: Oh look, this isn't an argument.
A: Yes it is.
M: No it isn't. It's just contradiction.
A: No it isn't.
M: It is!
A: It is not.
M: Look, you just contradicted me.
A: I did not.
M: Oh you did!!
A: No, no, no.
M: You did just then.
A: Nonsense!
M: Oh, this is futile!
A: No it isn't.
M: I came here for a good argument.
A: No you didn't; no, you came here for an argument.
M: An argument isn't just contradiction.
A: It can be.
M: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a proposition.
A: No it isn't.
M: Yes it is! It's not just contradiction.
A: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary position.
M: Yes, but that's not just saying 'No it isn't.'
A: Yes it is!
M: No it isn't!
A: Yes it is!
M: Argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes.
(short pause)
A: No it isn't.
M: It is.
A: Not at all.
M: Now look.
A: (Rings bell) Good Morning.
M: What?
A: That's it. Good morning.
M: I was just getting interested.
A: Sorry, the five minutes is up.
M: That was never five minutes!
A: I'm afraid it was.
M: It wasn't.
Pause
A: I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to argue anymore.
M: What?!
A: If you want me to go on arguing, you'll have to pay for another five minutes.
M: Yes, but that was never five minutes, just now. Oh come on!
A: (Hums)
M: Look, this is ridiculous.
A: I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid!
M: Oh, all right.
(pays money)
A: Thank you.
short pause
M: Well?
A: Well what?
M: That wasn't really five minutes, just now.
A: I told you, I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid.
M: I just paid!
A: No you didn't.
M: I DID!
A: No you didn't.
M: Look, I don't want to argue about that.
A: Well, you didn't pay.
M: Aha. If I didn't pay, why are you arguing? I Got you!
A: No you haven't.
M: Yes I have. If you're arguing, I must have paid.
A: Not necessarily. I could be arguing in my spare time.
M: Oh I've had enough of this.
A: No you haven't.
M: Oh Shut up.

So many threads are just started because people are lonely or drunk in same way or just to get people to say something out of boredom.

I like it when these threads don't get many responses.

As far as arguing, there are so many intellectuals that just have to make their points no matter what. I do like a good debate about some things based on real experience vs. people that are intent on stirring the pot for fun just to get some people pissed off.

Well, I'm guilty sometimes when I just want to point out how stupid some topics are. I guess that doesn't help either.

What's wrong with arguing?
Something good may come of it.

It is a vexation to the spirit.
It raises my blood pressure.
I ruminate about the comments for far too long.

But then sometimes I learn something :embarrassed2:

Happy New Year

The one that's fun to a point is, can somebody tell me the best aiming system? An can someone explain CTE an why is it better than ETE?

It's not so much the arguing as much as it is a total disrespect for another person's opinion. I've seen some minor arguments on here over various subjects that were actually very contributing to this site.

What I've found since taking up pool semi-seriously in the past 6 years is that the ratio of poolplayers that are rude, obnoxious, or just plain a$$holes is disproportionate to the general public.

As far as disrespecting an opinion, I just don't get how/why some people get so worked-up when someone has a completely different slant on a given subject. I recently had a well known and very respected member on this site post on a thread telling me (in so many words) that my opinion wasn't wanted on HIS thread and that I should get OFF of his thread. I simply had an opinion to share and it wasn't even close to what his was, so now he thinks I'm some sort of a-hole and for the most part told me so. I've read MANY of his posts on here, agreed with some and disagreed with some, but I would NEVER in a million years say the things to him that he said to me that day (I felt like PocketPoint briefly :sorry::o:thumbup:).

What people need to realize is that this site can better serve poolplayers with a true love of the game, from those who shoot pro speed to those who are just beginning to play, by not engaging in senseless baiting/arguing. It slows down the ability to read through the threads. Opinions are welcome, arguments not so much.

Anybody that knows me KNOWS that I am a very easy-going person and plays well with others. There are many on this site that you can tell are just the same. It's a shame that a few feel the need to come on here with the intention of stirring up the sh*t-pot. I don't think it will ever change though. The AZB community mirrors life in the general population in that you have all kinds of people in varying degrees of thought processes.

Once again, just MY opinions!!!

How about that using Kamui chalk is like sreading Unicorn semen all over a rainbow.Ya,those were the good ol days of great debates.

Its the fact that everyone is entitled to their own opinions so they are going to stay true to what they say no matter what it takes.
