Is this a real SW?

Hi everyone,

One of my friends wants to buy this cue but he does not sure if this is a real SW since there is nobody in my country who knows much about SW. Therefore, could you guys please tell me if this is a real SW by looking at these pictures below. Also, does the SW cue always come along with a LOA?

Loa

If you want a LOA you would have to send it to Laurie for one.
She does charge for them.

You can tell by the pin. It will have a cactus logo and a serial number ###-##. The first part is the number cue and the second part is the year.

You can also tell by removing the rubber bumper.

I would post pictures of both of these items. You will get a much better response.

Chris

You posted the FIRST photo below, it appears to have the Sugarro Cactus on the PIN, and Does it have a Serial Number? Like in the second photo????

butt cap looks like too small to be a SW.i think they are usually .425" and yours appears to be closer to .300".

someone might have trimmed it along the way though i guess.

Wow... the pictures of this southwest were lifted from my online picture album.

The cue has been in my possession for the past 3 years, when I purchased it from Joe Salazar. Yes it is a real southwest, but I am not informing anyone yet of the serial number

I don't know who your friend is or who is 'selling' this cue, but as I am the owner, I would think I would know if I was selling it.

Lol busted! I would be keeping an eye on it, looks like someone else also has been eyeing it.

Once again AZ comes to the rescue! Good job to the original poster for asking the question and finding out the truth!

Yeah, if it didn't hit so close to home I would be laughing too.

How much do you think I can get for the pictures?

:)

South West

One thing for sure, it is a Southwest which answers the OP's question.
There is some question about whether his friend will actually get the cue if he buy's it.

Or it could be that Tony_in_MD's cue was stolen and replaced with an exact duplicate.

Good catch...I bet the guy thought he was getting a great deal on the cue. Probably got sold some sick story about how he lost his job and fell behind on bills so he will sell the cue cheap.

Thank goodness for AZ cause overseas guys have no shot after they get ripped off.

A First!!

I think this is the very first pre-sell of a pre-stolen cue on AZ!! It never amazes me how marketing works!! Some people are just plain ingenious!!

Well I did send it away last year for a refinish and a new leather wrap.

Maybe it was fruitful and multiplied.

LOL

3 posts -- my guess is they fade into the night.

Not sure if a SW and a blank were mated if the offspring would be identical...LOL

Glad the bogus poster got nipped in the bud.

It's not the poster who was bogus. Let's not forget that when people search on Google often AZ will come up. AZ is kind of a goto place to find out information about all things billiards.

The original poster did the right thing by posting the pix and asking for help.

I am glad the owner of the cue was able to step in and clarify.

Just a few weeks ago I was at a friend's house and he has many SouthWest cues on the wall. In another rack he has a SouthWest "style" cue. I asked what it was and he explained that it's an import knockoff that he was sent by a crooked seller. He paid $1800 for this cue. The guy had pictured a real SW and sent a knockoff and then told the police that my friend had switched it. So my friend keeps it on the wall to remind him to do all he can to verify the cue AND the seller before committing to a cue.

I think that a good tip here when trying to verify something is to ask the seller to take another detail picture. If they have the item and are genuinely interested in selling it then they should be able to do so. If they give you the runaround then they either don't have the item or are not really interested in selling it.
