jack hines????

needs help
Jack was a monster player,but he had some problems.I saw Jack in Arlington Tx. in March, he was standing in front of a game room and he looked like he was homeless and obviously broke. It really pained me to see him in the state he was in.He looked at me and said " I know you ,Billy Cardone right? i'm Jack Hines" I answered him and said,right.I didn't want to ask him how he was doing,it was obvious. I gave him $40 and said good luck ,take care Jack.I then walked inside the game room,stayed for 30 minutes and left .He was gone when I walked outside and I haven't seen or heard about him since.Jack is probably in his late 50's I felt badly for him but what can you do? Yes he was a hell of a player but he obviously didn't have other skills and fell victim to our game,mainly because he had poor management.If he would of played any other game and had the same talent he had in pool he would of been successful,in spite of himself.I hope things change for the better for Jack. I'm sorry I couldn't have given you a better report but unfortunately that's what I saw.

Jack WAS a great player. He was the "Lori Shampo" of men's pool. Great but seriously flawed.

You know we have a lot of players that have fallen by the wayside and I was just wondering if percentage wise, the number is greater in pool than it is in other sports.
If our players do fall by the wayside more often than in other sports I would have to guess that it is because there is less structure in pool than there is in other sports. At least in other sports, there seems to be some organization and warnings are issued and even ultimatums are issued for the athletes. In pool it seems like you are just kind of out there on your own. No support. The player's personal family doesn't really understand the pool environment nor does the public in general. Pool is kind of a subculture and there appears to be a right of passage and some just travel down the wrong path.
It would be nice if a body, like the WPA, had information available that was of a psychological nature, warning pool athletes of the dangers lurking behind every pill and liquid pool performance enhancer besides just listing the drugs which are on the prohibited list, legal or otherwise.

I am sure he is not in his late 50's, he is probably in his mid to late 40's but more than likely looks like he is in his late 50's as he has led a very tough life and has continully battled with drugs which will age a person quicker than most anything else.

Jack liked driving fast motorcylces and took a serious spill in New Orleans several years ago and broke a lot of bones and spent months in the hospital then after being released, lived on the streets of New Orleans. He wasn't doing very well but was very candid about his life with me.
The homeless are more plentiful today in New Orleans than ever before.

Jack is 50 or 51, born in 1957 or 58. I'm pretty sure about this. He put his information on a form we used in Cleveland in 1990. At a Ten Ball tourney no less.
Jack Hynes would be 51 years old now. As I have said before he was the greatest shotmaker I have ever seen. Every ball he hit was at warp speed and the cueball went three rails for shape. He never played safe it was unreal. He is the only player that I watched practice because of the way he played.
That's always a sad sight, Billy. It's almost impossible to make a decent living playing pool; and when booze, drugs, or mental instability come into the picture, it's all over. Most of us fans tend to glamorize the life, but the reality of pro pool is very treacherous.wincardona said:
