I was watching the Mezz West State tour, and the commentators announced that the Jay Swanson Memorial Tournament will be a Mosconi Cup points event starting in 2016. First, is this true?
Second, if it is, is it right to have a regional event as a points event? I know the Swannee is a very popular event, but at its core it is a fun event for locals to that area.
It is not a "professional" event by most definitions. It is played in a local room, over two days, and there are many stories of players simply quitting because the heat in the room was overbearing.
The money added is more in line with a regional event than a larger professional event.
Thoughts?
