Jeanette and Calcutta?

Anyone know what happened in Indy at the tournament this past weekend with Jeanette and the calcutta?

I heard she got the tournament late and some guy bought her in the calcutta for $150 (not sure if that's the exact amount). She got was one match away from the money and went to go talk to the guy about buying half herself. The guy apparently got an attitude and told her he wanted to keep it all. She broke down her cue and forfeited.

Sounds like a $150 lesson to me.

You dont get 1 match from the cash and then decide to buy 1/2....... She has been around long enough to know that !!!!!!!!

Not very professional of her either.....

Uh Oh

The question is, who learned the lesson? The buyer or the player. HMMMM.

I totally agree. If I'm gonna buy half of myself, I know I have to do it before it starts. If he tips her, that is one thing, but you don't do that. Oh well. Another day in the days of our lives.

Sorry, but I agree with this statement. I play in a lot of golf calcuttas and have never heard anyone do this. If you want to risk your money, do it for the whole event. If this is indeed correct, then i say bush league on Jeanette's part.

Exactly

I'm pretty sure if this happened, that Jack and Brian won't let her play in any of their events, til she at least pays the guy. Most of the events, and smaller tours, had a rule that if you forfeit out of the tourney after you lose once, you gotta pay whoever bought you all their money or you're barred for life, {or til you payed up}....

That still sucks for him tho, because he was about to turn a profit.

I've heard of guys waiting in big tourneys til they get close to the calcutta money, then telling the guy who bought them that he HAS TO GIVE THEM HALF, or they will dump the rest of the tourney.

I find it hard to believe Jeanette did this. A) she has plenty of money and income. B) She is very careful of her image. C) Shes been around way to long to pull a move like that. I bet there is more to this story...like it's false. Johnnyt

A very lame move IF it's true. There are three sides to every story. Right now, we don't have any.

If it happened, there is no excuse. I don't care about the guy's attitude. There is no tourney in the world where you can buy any part of yourself after you have played any match. If true, ironman had it correct. The player should at least have to pay the buyer back the $150, or never play again. If I did it, I would be fortunate to only do that. A name shouldn't be exempt.

Can some explain the calcutta system to me.......not familiar how it works.

It is a player auction. They sell each player in the tournament in an auction bidding fashion. Then the combined monies(usually minus about 10% for the person/people running the calcutta) are split between the top finishers. If you bought someone, and they won, you might get, say 50% of the total monies in the calcutta. The deal is that the player has an option to buy half of themselves, up until either the brackets are posted, or the player begins play on their first match.

Yes this is true, my best friend is the one who bought her in the calcutta for $140, he went up to her after the calcutta to get half his money, cause he assumed she'd want half of herself, she said she wanted to look at the pot first, they then talked for about 10 minutes, 9 hours later when shes in the semi-finals on the winners side she finds him to buy half herself, he said no because she made no attempt to pay him.....so she quit just to spite him,she finished the tourney 5th/6th..... very UNPROFESSIONAL in my opinion

That's the kind of behavior that can tarnish Jeanette Lee's reputation. Not very professional. Shades of her old self, back when she was a teenager trying to hustle people at Chelsea Billiards many years ago.
