Jeanette and Calcutta?

The only lesson, if this is true, is that TV personalities aren't immune to doing questionable(being nice with that word ;) ) things.

That is so foolish. Work that hard to build a reputation, and throw it away for $70! Especially considering that she is supposed to be a millionare! I hope she does get barred, and the WPA should have something to say about her conduct since she is one of their representatives.
The WPA will not have much to say about a local tourny with a couple hundred dollar pot. Even though it is not the right thing to do its still not a big enough thing for that organization to worry about. There is nothing wrong with not buying back half when there is not much money in the pot but you cant wait till the end, I have been to lots of tournamnets where a couple people go for $100+ and the rest of the field go for $10 or $20 leavng terrible odds on your money.

My opinion

Yes this is true, my best friend is the one who bought her in the calcutta for $140, he went up to her after the calcutta to get half his money, cause he assumed she'd want half of herself, she said she wanted to look at the pot first, they then talked for about 10 minutes, 9 hours later when shes in the semi-finals on the winners side she finds him to buy half herself, he said no because she made no attempt to pay him.....so she quit just to spite him,she finished the tourney 5th/6th..... very UNPROFESSIONAL in my opinion

Is,,,, there will be another side to this story. And another,,,,, And maybe one more,,,,,,

So let's hear it - I know she has friends here on the board so the truth should be told soon.

disappointing

If this story is true, I am somewhat surprised. Her image for me has been one of intelligence and maybe even a touch of class. There must be another side to this, because it's kinda hard to believe she would do something this petty and dumb......it seems really out of character, after all the good things I have heard about her over the years.........

What poolroom or bar did this happen at in Indy? What tour or event was it? Surely someone knows the tour operator or room/bar owner/houseman? Johnnyt

the tournament director should ban her from playing in any of his events until she pays the guy back $150.

Oh!!! but she's "THE BLACK WIDOW".......LOL

It happened at John Waynes in Indy. It has nothing to do with any tour or anything like that. It was just a C tournament that they have frequently. The tournament director is an APA player.

Just another case of a guy who isn't star struck by jeanette. Just like the poor guy across town that got criticized by jeanette because he charged her table time after she had won several thousand gambling in his room that week. Like i said to my buddy that got taken advantage of by jeanette, she's only popular outside of knowledgable players!

Who let her in a C tounament? I know she isn't playing like she did in the past, but she would clearly rob any C player on earth.

I heard she got the tournament late and some guy bought her in the calcutta for $150 (not sure if that's the exact amount). She got was one match away from the money and went to go talk to the guy about buying half herself. The guy apparently got an attitude and told her he wanted to keep it all. She broke down her cue and forfeited.

Sounds like a $150 lesson to me.

1. Are you saying she arrived to the tournament late, Had not played a match, and then went and asked for half of herself?

2. or are you saying she didn't buy half of herself after the calcutta, Played some matches, Got close to the money and then asked for half of herself?

If #1 then she has an automatic option to take half.

If #2 then she was clearly wrong for askin for half after getting one match away from the money.

I would not have given her half of herself either if she waited 4 or 5 matches in to ask for half. That's a move and a half.... Wait and see if you do well before asking for half in the calcutta. Get real..

and what a p.o.s. to forfeit her match when the guy said no.. Assuming she didn't want to take half of herself until playing a bunch of matches that is.

Which is the way I read is considering the player has an automatic option to buy half after the calcutta is over...

I've heard of guys waiting in big tourneys til they get close to the calcutta money, then telling the guy who bought them that he HAS TO GIVE THEM HALF, or they will dump the rest of the tourney.

That's when I tell them, Sure thing you got it man..

Then they place and come to collect and I say, Go %$#@ yourself.

I completely agree with how some events make you pay back calcutta money to the original buyer if you forfeit.

but that still doesn't stop a player who wants to forfeit from just losing their next match on purpose.

Calcuttas are always risky.. I know I shy away from them unless I'm buying myself. or see a steal and a half..

something doesnt seem right here. i meah what was jeannette lee doing playing in a C tourney anyway? maybe she hasnt won anything on tour lately but she is no C player (unless they rate players differently in indy). and what kind of TD lets a touring pro play in a C tourney? and in what kind of calcutta would she only go for $150 since she had to be the clear fav to win? still havent heard JL's side of the story. the op's just relating what his friend said happened. come on JL is the most recognized pool player to the non pool playing public. everytime i have seen her she has been a class act. something is definitely wrong with this picture and from whats been said here i cant put the blame on JL until we get her side.

I would like to hear Jeanette's story...

(Perhaps it wasn't even her... I mix up those asian girls all the time, they all look like models) ;)

it was an abc tourney and the only thing wrong is that she dumped an entire tournament because somebody at a small tourny didnt get starstruck.

I think this all sounds like Bull*&%^ to me. I don't even need to hear both sides of the story. As well as I knowJ I am giving her the benefit of the doubt. She is an ambassador for the sport and a lover of the game. She always carries herself well and is firm and fair when it comes to business. If you are lucky enough to be her friend she will do anything she can for you and more.
