Jeanette and Vivian ?

+2 the first day for the Black Widow. +2 the 2nd day for Texas Tornado.
They broke even after 18 hours of play. You tell me Jay.
Don't really have any inside info. But its my guess that there was some business going on. No claims just a guess. They played 2 extra hours the second day or until VV got even.

Hmm, seems to me that ahead sets are more about stamina than pure skill. I would much rather watch (or play) a long race to 50 or whatever than an ahead match where other factors come into play.

Much easier to bet on also.

Thanks rackem. I watched a little of it when I had time and I'm guessing there was no business. They looked to me like they were both trying to win.

doubt it was foul play

That was a hell of a battle over two days. Weeks ago I said this was a much closer match up than most people thought. Sometimes it is just a shame that there has to be a loser. Two games difference over two days shouldn't cost two thousand dollars. Back in the eighties I played someone for long hours. We were so close to dead even that neither of us could gain a real advantage. When it was over I offered my opponent a walking stick that was pretty much equal to his losses. I had to respect his game and heart. I think that is what happened here. Not that Jeanette deliberately let Vivian get even but that she played on to give Vivian a chance to get even out of respect.

I thought they were about even before they started. What surprised me was that Jeanette was able to get out 8 ahead both days. I seems like Viv couldn't really get going until they reached at least 50 games played and I think part of that was Jeanette tiring out at about 50 games also. For one of them to win a 10 ahead against the other they would likely have to play about 80 games. JMHO

I missed yesterday's match on the live streaming. I had an emergency job to cover.

So they both came out even? Sheesh! :grin-square:

All's well that ends well, I guess!

I have seen Jeanette, of course, quite often in recent times in the pool media, but it sure is refreshing to see Vivian come to the fore.

Both ladies put in a good battle for the masses. Bravo to AzBilliards for bringing this to our community of pool enthusiasts.

I would like to see more of Vivian in the future. I really like her!

I think this proves they are very even, since VV had to win the equvilant or more to get it back down to "even"...

It was interesting to watch how when both times JL got to 8, a careless error, (a miss on a fairly easy 8 and a poor safety) turned the tide. She never recovered from either... I think the psychology involved in this format is very interesting, but I agree not maybe as exciting to watch for the viewers.

I was wondering, with so much money at stake and not their own money, what would prevent two less ethical players from throwing it and then splitting the pot? It must be a tempting thought...? In a normal race, someone will eventually win... with this as we saw, there can be hours of play and still no winner. I wonder if the backers were hoping for that?

At the place I hang out whenever I see these 10 ahead or similar matches I always say the winner is 'Henry' who is the owner of the room who collects the table time.

I think that J.L and Vivian`s match will be in the history books and the winners will be Monica & Helena when the room gets advertised and sales go up.

Chris, with a qualification, I totally agree with you....

I believe that this is true, but not just with ahead sets....it's true with any type of match-up that goes into 8, 10, 12, 18 hours, etc....and these hour-length numbers will also fluctuate depending on the age of the players.

You're right about this Vagabond. Jerry said the place was real busy both nights. From listening to some conversations off camera it sounded like AZB may also have picked up a few new members also.

Jeanette/Vivian

Jeanette must have too much money. Up two games the first day. 5 games ahead at midnight last night. 7 x $2450 a game and decides to play and break even. Sure, she could have won more, but she was extremely tired and probably in a great deal of pain. Bad decision for both ladies, Vivian could not win no matter what. Go figure.

Does anyone know the backstory here??

I'm curious... does anyone know how this matchup came about? Or why they were playing for such high stakes?

While it is great to see two strong players do battle like this, it is really rare these days to see people betting that high.

"Dennis the Menaces" in chat?

I'm sure there are a few people wanting to find out who the a-holes were who ruined the chat option. I missed most of it.

Anyways, thanks to all who helped stream the match. Great job.

satman:

Didn't get to see the stream due to the unfortunate "job thing" getting in the way (evening/night hours). I gathered that JL and VV ended it "even," but your comment above raises an eyebrow -- what happened in (or during) the chat? And, was the chat shutdown mid-way (or not offered at all on a subsequent day)?

I wish I could've watched the stream / attended the chat -- at least I could've attempted to extinguish a few flames with some of my patented dry levity. ;) :D

I can answer. Some buttheads came on the chat and got real vulgar so Jerry shut the chat down for about 15 min then came back up but had to shut down again for over an hour. One or more seemed fairly knowlegable about pool and whos who in pool.

I think the table was tight enough that it really wasn't going to allow one player to dominate.

Yes there were alot of pocket rattles and pretty much any shot they tried to "fire in" got rejected. Shawn said the Diamond had the Pro cut pockets.

Well I am unsure of how the bets are working to be honest and even I have some money riding on it. I would consider the bet still good even if it goes beyond the 8 hour time frame though as it is still the same set.

I had 2 bets going on, and instead of being up $ 95 after 8 hours on day 2 when the original bet finished, I now owe $ 30.

I could have been nitty and asked for the $ 95, but I guess I would have made the same bet if the session was 12 hours instead of 8.

Good thing I only bet small on this match, and that the amount was not $ 950 and $ 300. Then I would have felt real bad about it, and I don't know what would be the correct thing to do...

Lesson learned:

1) what to do if they play longer than the planned session
