I was wondering how King James was doing, so if anyone knows him well please respond. The only thing that I heard in the past couple of years was that he was having bad back trouble. :(
Thanks,
Ray

I hope someone reads this who can give some info on Jimmy. I haven't heard a word about him for a long time.

James

If someone knows anything and would like to keep it private please PM me and I will keep it to myself. We are just concerned about Jim since we have not heard anything from him or about him in the past couple of years. The last I saw him was at SBE about 4-5 years ago. Hope everything is ok.

Jim retired from competition about a decade ago. He was always one of my favorites to watch.

Hope someone can offer something in this thread. On this forum, I've read several times that he became a dentist, but I have no idea whether this is true.

Here's a cute video of Steve Davis and Jim Rempe. Look at how the audience is interacting with the players, laughing and having a good time. THIS is how pool should be ---> HERE

I heard some years ago that he'd retired.

Retired from the game of pool? It's not like he's drawing a pension.

Pool is a game. People quit the game. People don't retire from the game.

Jim Rempe was great to watch, I wish him the best.

But I also hope he had a real job, a real career, so he is genuinely retired.

Jim Rempe is doing the commentary on the Accu-Stats video I'm currently watching. He does a superb job. It's too bad he didn't get into the announcers booth more often.

Just spoke with Jim

I called Jim and told him folks on AZ were asking about him. He said to tell everyone he is doing fine and enjoying life. He plays pool a bit in his man cave downstairs on his Connelly Ultimate but has no interest in getting back into competition (Jim is 66). He said he missed the competition for a long time but now he is over it. He said he still gives lessons. I forgot to ask him about his back and he didn't mention it so I assume it is okay.

We talked about the old Johnston City Tournament and he talked about winning the 1 Pocket Division in 1971. He said he beat Ronnie Allen twice in that event.

Jim lives in a very nice home that he had built next to a Lake in 2007.I have been to his home twice and it is very nice. He still fishes.

So to end Jim said tell everyone he is fine, thanks for asking and have a good Holiday.

Here are a few photo's I took a couple of years ago at the US Open. The first two are at Johnny and Alison's HOF induction banquet. The third is outside the US Open the next morning (Jimmy, Alison and Jean Balukas...Pool Royalty).

Funny, I was thinking of Jimmy yesterday. I know he and Sally are fine. Jimmy was careful with his money and planned for the future. He was one of the smarter pool players. And also one of the best!

I love to hear these kind of stories about great pool players that planned for the future and can retire with some style. Somehow I'll bet there is a good woman that had something to do with it also. Johnnyt

Man, Mike Panozzo must be one tall dude if he's taller than Jim Rempe! :grin-square:

And Jean Balukas looks a little like Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg in those photos. :)

Thanks for sharing the cool pictures!

Great Photo's, Pool Royalty

Jimmy has been married to Sally, his High School sweetheart for over 40 years, How many Road Agents and/or professional tournament players can say that! They also always have a small dog at their side for many years...and he fishes to boot. Classy guy from a generation gone by...bring it back!!!

I was fortunate enough to see Jim play in person at a Pro event at The Bicycle Club here in LA in the mid '90's. He was gracious enough to sign a cue ball along with other notable Hall of Famers and top players.

Speaking of Jean Balukas, I wish there was some way of getting her to come back to the game. You talk about one of the greatest ever, that's Jean.

Jimmy Rempe is my favorite player. I just like his demeanor and intensity. He and Buddy Hall could knuckle up when the pressure was on... most could, but Jimmy looked better doing it LOL, Really great guy, I would absolutely be interested in getting a lesson from him.

Any chance one of you could let slip a means by which one might finagle a lesson with his royal highness? If I can afford it. If I were James, I'd be like "I aint getting out of my bass boat for anything less than five grand". But I can hope.
