Everybody has bad years but I think his overall winning percentage and no lose year speaks of his excellence in this venue
His unwillingness to participate in the required tournaments speaks of his true desire to be on MC.
Do the work!

Watchez perhaps you should do your due diligence research prior to posting his record 18 appearances have not resulted in failure as well his last visit to Europe had him fanning the flame coming from 3 games down to Broyles or one of the other Euros to leave victory in the hands of two Americans who failed to deliver. With all due respect do your research please!!!
How did he do in the last Mosconi Cup he played in Las Vegas?
Do your research please!!!
Love JA and will always be a fan--he's on the pantheon of the pool gods...that said, he's had his chances and is not in the top 5 this year. His experience and knowledge (and the respect his team mates always have for him) is valuable, but we need firepower more than player/coaches. IMHO, he tends to over coach a tad; I've seen him talk SVB into shooting a shot differently, and even though it was sound advice, it can rattle a AAA player to have a HOFer looking over his shoulder on every shot. There are a couple on the top 5 who've been challenged nerve-wise in previous outings, and that concerns me...that said what's fair is fair. I'll give Mark Wilson benefit of the doubt that he'll crack the code on that this year, if anyone can he will.
... SVB played 227 games of 9-Ball to win the US Open. ...
If Johnny Archer committed himself to the game and professional pool and was still winning and proving himself to be a top player in the USA he would still be making the team.
How old is Johnny? Staying at home and hanging out with the family is not something most working professionals can expect to do in any walk of life. If Johnny retired young to hang out with his family so be it but you cannot have your cake and eat it too. You are either a professional pool player still committing yourself to pool as a job, or you are retired. Retired pool players should not be considered for the Mosconi Cup at all.
Again you did not respond to the post Jack Nickalaus missed many tournaments to watch kids and grandkids . If you play played in every qualifier you basically could not make money with the cost of travel and expenses . The only ones that did had sponsors they did not make money
I've got 230, Mike. Let me know if I've got something wrong: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=438464
So.....the more tournaments you play the more $$$ you lose? Why would you play ANY? Or do you already know ahead of time if you'll win or lose?
Come back to earth please
Jason
To answer your question as to why would people play any tournaments when they know the more you play the more you lose... just look at the casino floor and you will see that there are plenty of people who play in spite of knowing they will lose money in the long run. The entertainment and the hope to beat the odds keep them coming back for more.
Unlike the casino junkies Johnny and Jack can and have made money playing tournaments though. But with travel expenses vs payouts, many are still not worth going to.
