Jose Parica - elected to BCA HOF

I wasnt aware that the selections for the BCA HOF have been made yet this year. As of two weeks ago the ballot was still being finalized. Its possible I missed something with working the nationals but I dont think the BCA HOF vote for 2014 has happened yet.

Fred Agnir will know for sure. He knows everything.

It'd be interesting to see what category Jose would be voted in for. I seem to recall threads a couple years ago where Bustamante and Parica were both on the same ballot for the same category, and it was Parica's last year of eligibility due to age. Bustamante won -- fueled in part by his world championship win that year -- and that basically sealed-off Parica forever from winning in that category. The only thing he could win after that was lifetime achievement or some such.

Thoughts?

Yup. I forget the exact name for the categories but he is off the ballot as a player and will have to go in for achievement or what not. Similar to Barry Hearn I believe.

I used to be more familiar with the rules but its been a minute since I've done anything but pick who I thought should go in.

Parica deserves to be inducted as a player...nothing less.

He was the first Filipino to break out of his country and paved the way for Reyes, Bustamante, and all the other great players from his native land.

In his prime, Jose bet it up big time and usually came out ahead.

Also, he's a genuinely nice guy and has waited patiently for his well-deserved induction into the HOF. I hope that the BCA doesn't "cheapen" his inclusion.

He should be inducted into the "Holy Crap; Nobody seems to be able to beat this man for the cash" category.

if it's true that he's in, Congrats.

if the voting hasn't happened yet, please vote him in. :)

best,

Got word the vote did happen. I must have missed the emails while at nationals. Congrats to the new members. Both very deserving.

Congratulations to Jose. He is one of my favorite players to watch. He keeps it simple.

They have said in tonight's 14.1 stream that Jose Parica finally got elected into the BCA HOF. I don't think I have seen this posted anywhere yet so here goes.

Congrats to Jose Parica.... Congrats to Mika too.

True.

I remember Efren saying in some video somewhere that younger players should emulate Parica's style over his own. Efren said that he spins the ball too much, whereas Parica keeps the movement on the CB simple.

LOL!!!
Thanks Justin.

The HOF Committee had a slight delay in the announcements, but we were allowed to put up announcements on our own until the official press release. Here's mine to the other site:

Mika Immonen and Jose Parica Earn Recognition in Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame

The United States Billiard Media Association and its members have voted in Mika "the Iceman" Immonen from Finland (apologies to the late Larry Hubbart) to be inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame in the Greatest Player Category.

Mika was voted as Player of the Decade in the 2000's and has exemplified dedicated professionalism throughout his career. Excelling in all games, Mika started out in billiard games of Kaisa (similar to Russian Pyramids) and snooker before focusing on American Pool games of 9-ball, 14.1. He is a former WPA World Championship, two-time US Open 9-ball Champion, and Derby City Classic 9-ball Champion. Immonen has been a member of the European Mosconi Cup squad 14 times, and was MVP in 2008. He owns major titles in 9-ball, 10-ball and straight pool.

Jose' Parica is commonly known as the Leader of the Philippine Invasion. Often over-shadowed by the success of his countryman, Efren "Bata" (the kid) Reyes, Jose' "Amang" (the man) Parica was actually the Number 1 Player in the Philippines for much of Efren's early years prior to moving to the United States. An all-around champion in virtually every American Pool game, Parica helped to redefine American rotation games with the additional safety, kicking, and strategic skills and aspects that the Filipinos who came after Jose' bring to the table. I could say more about this man's accomplishments, but that would fill up space beyond space.

Jose' was chosen by the USBMA Veterans Committee and subsequently confirmed by vote by the rest of the Hall of Fame voting members to be inducted into the Veterans Category , a category introduced by the USBMA to honor those whose prime may be unknown to today's players and voters. The Veterans Category alternates with the Meritorious Service Category every other year for inductions.

It is my great pleasure to be able to present to the ... forum... the newest members to the BCA Hall of Fame. Congratulations to Mika and Jose'.

Regards,

Freddie Agnir

:clapping::bow-down::happydance:

:welcome::yeah:

Congrats Amang

Always loved his game and how easy he made it look. Had the pleasure of playing him once in tourney and he beat me (of course). Last shot was a carom kick to 9 to win. Wow.

Total Game

What I admired about his play, was his incredible consistency at times, in ALL areas of play. Max two errors race to 11, it was all packages at that level. I almost wanna call em ''Steadie Eddie''. His runouts seemed to happen with less effort.

I had a conversation with him a few years ago at the Derby, and he mentioned that being in the HOF was his ultimate dream.

I'm glad his dream came true.

Congratulations, Jose.

Congrats Amang! Well deserved and about DAMN time!!
