No surprise to me. With many of these vintage cues, the best restorations are the ones done that save the wrap. Many times, that wrap is Cortland, Penn, or the good days of Blue Mountain. And many times, there's no need to replace it.
All the best,

Yup if blue magic can get soaked blood, grass, wine and dirt stains I’m pretty sure removing dirt and oil from linen with lesser methods wouldn’t be extremely difficult....
Remember the old linen was made from longer strands of flax and is much stronger generally speaking than what is offered today and acceptable for use in cues.
I’ve been speaking to my mother whos knowledge of fabric, yarn, thread is up there with say what RKC knows about tables lol. She’s always been interested in trying to replicate it but all I have is data no piece of the no 9 to go off of and she’s done such things for vintage remakes of old yarns and such that became unavailable/extinct.....spins and all that my father and I made most of her jigs for such work.
If someone has any and would be willing to spare merely say 6” that would be more than sufficient to begin to tinker with it.
