Just my opinion

I know some of you are just having fun with all the SVB threads but I think there is a lot of disrespect being shown to him as well. He just won the US Open and is a World Champion. There are a number of disrespectful things in these threads that will now always be associated with his name on this forum (and we are lucky enough to have him as a member) with no doing of his own. Think before you post - it is permanent. Honestly would you do or say these things if you were face to face with him? Like I said just my opinion. I am sure others differ.

While I agree, it may not be 'permanent'. It's entirely possible that a number of these threads will disappear with the arrival of one of AZB's Moderators.

Golden rule of forum life:

Do not post anything you would not say in real life.

I don't think most of these posts are meant to be insulting...things just get carried away sometimes. Everyone should ask themselves what they would think if they logged on here and saw your name plastered all over silly ass threads in response to you achieving the largest professional milestone of your career.

Smorg: I hope you are right in that the black helicopters will come for a few of these threads.

I agree and I think if Shane came on here right now he would be alittle insulted.

If professional pool players want to be treated to the same kind of celebrity status and adoration that other pro athletes get, this is all a part of it. They've got to form a thick skin and take the bad with the good.

So just because he is a professional pool player or even some sort of celebrity he should automatically expect a certain amount of disrespect? We are lucky that he posts here and is part of our community and not only does he post here but so do his mother and grandfather. Think about what you said and then put yourself in his place.

No matter what the profession, as soon as someone gets into the public eye this stuff happens. I never defended those people who choose to be disrespectful... I was just pointing out that there are always people who will turn a great thing into a negative. He'll learn to brush it off.

It has certainly been said before, but some people lose their inner censor when the engage in forums.

In person things are different. One might get punched.

I think he coud be a lot insulted.

Things can be said while in a group of guys standing around shooting the bull and the others can tell that it's all just bs and no meant to be taken seriously. (and even under those circumstances things can get out of hand)

But thngs said on line are there in print and the meaning can't be discerned by the body language, the tone of voice, the facial expession, the look on the face, the loudness or softness... all the things that can communicate that we are just having little fun or that we're really angry, or bummed out or?????. It's very difficult to convey that you're just bs'n when it's in print. What is said whlile bs'n often is pretty mean when taken for exactly what the words say.

Things said on line should be well thought out and should be said with a purpose... a goal. Before posting ask yourself what your goal is. What do you wish to have be the result of your post. What effect do you want your words to have on the party to whom it's being directed.

If you post without asking these questions, post witout an intended goal, then you have only reacted to what is being said. Reactions are usually mindless and are controlled by the emotions with a desire to be one of the crowd being one of the foremost sub-conscious goals, while paying little attention to the actual idea being convey by the words and how others might be affected by what you've said.

Ask yourself: Am I be-ing the person I really can believe in? Do my words reflect what I really believe in? Will what I'm about to post contribute to helping the world be the kind of place I really want it to be? Every action has meaning and a consequence. Every word changes the whole world.

A guy's gotta think before runnin the mouth.

I agree whole heartedly. We (this forum as a collective group) have run so many professionals and legends off of this board over stupid crap. Someone sitting behind a keyboard IMO would not act the same in person. Luckily we have many people that have a little common sense and integrity here.

We are lucky for those pros and legends that are here and are willing to participate and share their knowledge.

Great post.

I agree that the backlash against the Shane posts is inappropriate. OK, so people forgot to search and some of the threads are redundant. No biggie. Just give them a link and move on. Even if you aren't interested in knowing what kind of cue he uses, etc., shouldn't we all be happy that SVB is generating a lot of excitement in the pool world? If people on this board are making fun of each other for being fans of pool players, how can we expect the mainstream to ever become pool fans? They'd probably just get turned off by the poolier-than-thou attitude and go back to watching American Idol.

Your post shows class Mr. BVal...rep for you. Its very sad that so many will post crap that they'd NEVER say to your face...I assure you. Most aren't "in" the billiard community, so to speak...and its painfully easy to see.;)

I guess I have bad taste in humor, but I thought all of the threads were funny, except blackjacks tranny porn post.

But I can understand how it could be viewed as disrespectful, and I didn't mean any disrespect in my thread about calling combos.

I apologize for anyone that took offense.

Good shootin Shane!

Bump for a decent Shane post. Hopefully it will bump DOWN some of those foolish threads on the Main Forum.

I spoke with Shane yesterday and he asked me about all these threads on here. I told him it was just people having some fun, and that everyone loved him. Basically he just laughed it off. As well he should.

Shane handled Ronnie Alcano, he can handle this.

It's the Billiards world on little paprazi kinda thing....

Bask in the lime light my friend.....

Just imagine if pool players had enough star weight to make the cover of US weekly!!!

Aw man that takes all the fun out it.

How about don't post anything you wouldn't say in person IF you are using your real name???????????

Just kidding. My friend used to be huge into online role playing games - Everquest, SecondLife, etc.... I always found it a little funny how much the folks in the fantasy worlds wanted to always know all about the people's real lives. It was like no one could just be their online persona and interact with others that way - they HAD to know the people on the other end to make it real somehow.

One thing we should ALL remember - me especially - is that nothing goes away on the internet. I still run across posts from the RSB days that make gasp in their utter rudeness, good thing I have toned it down eh :-)

And they come out of nowhere - I'll be doing a search for Adams cues and come across a post about me telling so and so that Adams was wrong to use the Balabushka name as they did and if he doesn't believe then he can impale himself on one.......not exactly what you want people to read about you. So IF you all learn anything from me then let it be that whatever you say on the net can and probably will come back to haunt you in the future.
