My second one just broke. It started the other day and now the layer just came off. 6 months 2 tips... time to switch. Too bad cause they hit good. Going back to Everest. Had one on my cue for 1 1/2 years.

Glad that I passed on buying one of those 5-packs that Troy was sellin' for $56.50.

I bought several hard Kamui tips from Troy and I haven't experienced a single problem on any of my cues, nor has anyone else that I have supplied one to.

So, let's make a few things clear.

Troy sells excellent tips at a great price.

Kamui apparently is having a problem with some of their Medium Soft tips.

I have not seen a reported problem with the hard tips.

My suggestion:

Try Moori Medium.

That sucks. This is the first time someone's posted something about that happening with Kamui's that I can recall.

Nothing wrong with Everests but personally, I think a Sniper will hit more like the Kamui Med Soft than the Everest.

Good luck!

I have been putting them on for sometime now and haven't had one issue with them. knock on wood.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Is it possible you were doing something to agitate the tips layers/glue?
I had a Kamui tip and I liked the way it hit, and it lasted all the way down to the bottom. Teddy just doesn't have anymore of them so back to Mooris.

I have been using a lot of Kamui mediums on a lot of my cues and haven't had any problems. Got them from Troy and they were fine.

can someone explain the difference between the medium and the medium soft??

I recently put on a Kamui soft tip and took off the Sniper and I like it a little better than the Sniper and have had no problems with it.

Once again ---JASON ROBICHARD-- who is installing the tip? is it being done on a lathe or by hand. And my friend they are unconditionaly guarr-and they have a warranty. And why post, I.m glad I didn't but some from troy the 5-56.00 I think there is a slam there , or just say I 'm glad I didn't buy any kamui- DAVE_CIGAR- Thanks for the post - How are we supposed to validate your post when you refuse to say anything about the installation or the price you paid, I just would like to see promenice not listen to a tall tale (maybe-) I have seen hundreds of all ( s.ms, m mh h) If you like the play why aren't you willing to try a SOFT-_MED ?????? but it will be your loss because I say play with one or get beat with one. PS I play snooker with several pool cues 2-3 times a wk. with Kamui- Remember Kamui is the only tip with no proporsity. I did put and ANTIQUE FRENCH CHAMP on last night - And remember All the ob-1's that threw the brand new talisman pros off- Does troy get blamed for that?

Hi Jason; I too just started playing with a Kumui med hard. At 1st, I thought that it was just a little harder than the Morri med, but it played great & held chalk so well, I kept it on & really like it. Layered tips require a little more knowledge, with the instalation. 1st of all HEAT is the enemy of glue. When shaping them , if you force it too much, friction will build up heat, that will weaken the glue holding the layers together. 2nd, too tall of a tip, is also no good (Inoticed that these tips are VERY tall). With the tip too tall, any off center hit, brings a great deal of bending to the sides of the tip. That will tear the layers apart. Over the years, I have come up with a formula that works well. The HEIGHT of the tip should be 1/3 of the ferrule WIDTH. In otherwords for a 13mm ferrule, the HEIGHT of the tip should be .168" HIGH (MAX). Try it before you give up on ANY layered tip. Oh by the way, in the future I have problems with these tips, I will definitely post that review. On the otherhand IF thiese tips turn out to stay good , after more testing I will also give that review HERE...JER

i think something must have happened to the tip.i would guess delamination, which is pretty easy without a very sharp razor a only slight pressure.

did you put it on yourself.what method?

we have been selling them for years 3-4 at leats and have done hundreds.i have never seen one "break" in my life.

I replied to your other post when you asked but I see it isn't there. It must have timed out while answering. I paid $50 ea installed for the 1st 2 tips. He uses a lathe and blade on the tip. Doesn't sand them. He wanted to charge again and I didn't want any part of that. I tried 1 more. If this one goes, I'm done with the kamui. I don't know who this troy is. I am having problems with Kamui purchased and installed in Canada. Nothing to do with the person selling them just the tip. My first tip a chuck fill out and this one the layers let go. I tried a soft this time. Fingers crossed.

50 bucks a tip? good grief... I've heard when you're working on these tips with a lathe you are supposed to be a little more careful than normal because of the porousness of the leather. maybe the guy installing them needs to shape them up a little slower...

Never had any problems with Kamuis like you speak of. I love their performance and hope to never have any issues. They are my favorite tips of all time.

I may have found the cause of the tip failure. I think the guy installing the tip left too many layers resulting in too much flexing when hitting a ball. He also put glue on the sides of the tip instead of burnishing. I think this hard glue shell wouldn't flexed with the tip while playing spin, this would pull at the tip glue and the layers causing it to fail. Just a guess, but something caused these 2 tips to fail.

why the hell would he put glue on the side of the tip? when the tip compresses the glue probably cracks and pulls the leather apart from the sides.
