Kamui/ Sniper tip noises

I have noticed a weird tink noise sometimes when I use kamui tips and sniper tips. When I had Mooris on i never heard noises hardly at all coming from the tips. Has anybody else experienced the same thing?

Are you installing them yourself? If so...try another & use Gorilla glue and see if that cures your issue.;)

The new Kamui medium hards seem to make more noise after they've been broken in.

In layered tips would making more noise, or any noise at all suggest the layers not being together completely? or something loose elsewhere in the cue?

I THINK they are using a harder glue or a glue that doesn't "stretch" as well.

Every time I have heard a "tink" that was in fact caused by a tip, the tip either had an air pocket where the glue did not take, or it was not attached properly by the glue somewhere around the edge of the tip. Most of the time, the person who changes the tip had used cheaper super glue and it just did not take.

This makes a little more sense I guess. But a tip wouldn't stay on long with an air pocket would it?

You can tell if you push the tip side to side.
Kamui's changed I think.
I put 3 medium hards on with white gorilla glue.
YOU HAVE to clamp on that tip for about half an hour for that tip not to have any gaps. WG expands and foams to the side. Absolutely the best glue for tips ( thanks KV ).

Glad to hear all your opinions. I have a monster player with one shaft with a LBM ferrule, and it plays great. I later added another really exceptional shaft with an ivory ferrule and a tip that I normally like but with a shock pad. This particular combination "tinks". I'm going to change the tip and remove the shock pad. Smarter than changing the ferrule ;) . Thanks...Tom

Thats why the Gorilla glue is the hot ticket for tips. As it foams & expands that guarantee's you'll have no air pockets. Makes for a nicer "hit" in my opinion as well.;)

Some people don't mind the tink.... I myself can't stand to hear it from my cue even if it is playing great.

i've also found that a tink sound can be pretty deceiving. you think it's coming from the tip, but the problem can be somewhere else too. in the joint, or a loose weight bolt. it's weird how the sound travels in the cue. i had a loose weight bolt in one, and i could swear it was coming from the tip/ferrule.

tips-all not just laminated

tips, ferrules , joints all make nosies- depends on glues(epoxy's vs super glue, and super glue gels, and metals that inserts and pins are made from. look for super glue gels, made in Japan (elmers) has cyclo- good chemicals.I have,nt used the gorilla for tips but I used it on weigth threads, pins. mark

Is the gorilla glue easier to clean off the side of the ferrule than loctite or other ca glues?

Absolutely.
Make sure the side of the ferrules is not wet.
I wet the face of the ferrule a little, put some glue on the tip , spread it on the tip, place on the ferrule face, spin a little and make sure you're almost center, put pressure on the tip ( parting tool works well for me ), WIPE off excess glue that comes out of the tip.
You can trim the tip in 15 minutes. I wait 30 minutes .

this is sound advice and there is another possibility that when the guy shaped the tip he ogt it too hot and it might have partially delaminated.Kamuis are pretty hard and pretty tall, you need a nice sharp razor blade and a little patience to get them down to 3-4 layers safely.

I take a piece of cellophane tape and wrap it around the ferrule just along the edge before I cut the tip off. Any glue that comes out the side goes on the tape and I can pull it right off when I'm finished.

No I do not instal the tips myself.I use to instal my own tips but quit doing so when I satrted using laminated tips a few years ago.I dont have a lathe and found it tough to trim the sides down on layered tips. I have noticed if i scuff the tips up the sound seems to disapear for a little while.

I am the same way. The cue plays great its just with these tips ( kamui& sniper) I hear a noise. Like I said i had mooris and heard no such noise. I am thinking I should just switch back..

I'd just try another tipof the same kind maybe get a different person to do it. Not to say the person that installed it isn't any good but he could maybe just not have any experience with that particular product. If the next tip does the same thing I'd consider going back then...
