Keith Would have Crushed Them

JAM said:
Oh, he does. Keith can bark and drum up action any place he steps foot in. You, on the other hand, I would liken to a dingo.
what does that have to do with heart.
by the way for 15 years i went around the country got plenty of action.
like i said he would beat me in his prime i know this.
but as far as heart not even close.

I don't. I certainly do not. For what? To dance like a monkey for others to ridicule and rip apart? No, thank you. Welcome to the American pool world where pool is cruel to its own.

Jam, Who exactly is being cruel to Keith? I seem to remember a lot of good folks in AZ land that offered to send Keith to Derby city and pay for all his accomodations and entries including myself.

Chris is simply stating his opinion that he feels Alex would have beaten Keith in both of their respective primes (a question that cannot ever truly be answered). I guess there was nothing wrong with all the people that said Keith would win because I don't see Alex's girlfriend on here raising hell about it.

I see nothing wrong with these types of debates because that is what makes different sports talks fun and interesting. I love getting into debates about who was better Nicklaus or Tiger. I personally think Tiger is because I played in some of the same tourneys as him as a junior and have closely followed his career. However, I've also watched every one of Jack's major wins and anyone from that era might beg to differ on the two.

Its a shame that discussions like this always turn into train wrecks.

All's well that ends well. I bet accustats is kicking themselves for not having this match on the TV table.

Well, they did film the last part of the match, and it's on the DVD that has Efren and Bustie on the TV table, I think. They had to stop filming Efren and Bustamante because every single person in the Chesapeake Conference Center was watching Alex and Keith's match, including Efren and Bustie. So the cameras switched off Efren and Bustie and filmed the last game or two of Keith and Alex.

Alex came back strong, winning the next game or two. When the dust settled, Keith won the match. The match was electrifying. I won't ever forget it. I was sitting next to Buddy Hall. When Keith missed the 9-rock, I cringed and said to Buddy, "I can't stand this. What can I do?" He replied, "There's not much you can do, except hope that he gets another shot."

I'll find a reprint of the story and post it up.

There's a reason Keith did not go to DCC, and the decision was made not based on money. You see, Corvette, there's more to life than money, and there's damn sure more to life than pool.

I have to agree.

That is pretty low down and dirty to say about someone.

Quite a few American legendary players. In an era in American pool when gambling was the norm, hustling was a way of life. Keith McCready spent the better part of the 1970s and 1980s traveling throughout the United States as a tournament competitor and road player. Sometimes the tournament venues would be a gathering place for pool hustlers, but the main action would take place outside of the tournament. Today, pool players travel the circuit around the world and compete in tournaments. McCready is the last of a rare breed. Before him, you had quite a few action men who traveled the country their entire life, much longer than 45 years.

Yes, it is.

Again you danced around the actual post. He didn't ask you why Keith didn't go, That is no ones business. He simply stated that a very generous offer was made to Keith by the exact people you think hate him. Even if you don't want to believe it, almost everyone on this board loves Keith.

Oh, yeah? I didn't dance anywhere. I addressed Corvette at the time that offer was made, and I addressed it again in this thread. And you're right, it is no one's business.

Grow up. Do you even know how strong Buddy Hall played in his heyday, or Ronnie Allen, Jim Rempe, Nick Varner, Mike Sigel and Earl? And I'm just takling about tournament soldiers. There's a whole lot of world beaters who flew under the radar. As I said earlier, the tournament venues were only gathering spots for action men.

To take that a step further. The people don't even have to love a particular player. I have had several arguments and woofing debates with Chris, but that doesn't mean I don't respect his game and gamble.
I've also had countless arguments with Jam, but it doesn't mean I don't respect Keith and all he's accomplished.

The people on AZ represent the biggest cross section of pool enthusiasts, gamblers, railbirds, industry people, cue traders, players, bangers, tourney directors, etc...
If it weren't for AZ and its' members then the whole pool culture would be basically null and void.

Just because people have differing opinions on things don't mean they don't share in several commonalities with pool and billiards as a whole.

Well at least 11 players on Chris's list are World Champions. That's pretty strong no matter when or where you played. IMO.
